ICPC Sets to Strengthen Anti-Corruption Policies as China Shares Experience
The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has said that Nigeria will continue to draw lessons from global best practices and comparative experiences in strengthening its anti-corruption policies and strategies.

Dr. Aliyu stated this at the Third Edition of the International Diplomatic Dialogue themed, “Experience Sharing in Anti-Corruption Policies and Strategies: The Chinese Perspective,” held at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja.
The ICPC Chairman explained that as Nigeria continues to deepen its anti-corruption efforts, there was significant value in learning from comparative experiences, understanding best practices and identifying innovative approaches that could be adapted to local realities.

He noted that corruption remained a major threat to political, socio-economic and developmental progress, particularly in societies where it was allowed to thrive unchecked.
Dr. Aliyu noted that China had made significant progress in combating corruption through key anti-corruption institutions, particularly the National Supervisory Commission (NSC) and the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), adding that the Commission was keen to learn from the country’s strategies and policies, including its institutional and legal reforms, as well as enforcement measures deployed in the fight against corruption.
Dr. Aliyu recalled that the Commission had earlier hosted the Kenyan High Commissioner to Nigeria and the Ambassador of Indonesia to Nigeria at the first and second editions of the International Diplomatic Dialogue respectively, noting that the engagements provided opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and experiences on approaches adopted by different countries in addressing corruption.
In his remarks, the Provost of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria Prof.Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim said China’s transformation from one of the world’s poorest nations into a major economic and technological power was driven partly by strong political will and sustained efforts to combat corruption.
He said China strengthened its anti-corruption system through unified investigations, zero tolerance for corruption and the use of technology to improve transparency and detect corrupt practices.
He also highlighted the relevance of Confucian values such as righteousness, propriety, wisdom, sincerity and integrity in promoting ethical conduct.
The Provost called for comparative learning between Nigeria and China’s anti-corruption systems to strengthen accountability and support sustainable national development.
In his keynote address, His Excellency, the Cultural Counsellor of Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and the Director of China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Counsellor Yang Juanxing explained that China’s anti-corruption approach goes beyond the investigation and punishment of individual offenders, combining enforcement with prevention, institutional reform, oversight and education.
He said the approach was designed to build a system in which people were unwilling to corrupt, unable to corrupt and afraid to corrupt.
The Chinese Counsellor further stressed the importance of accountability, maintaining that no individual should consider himself above the law on account of position, power or personal connections.

According to him, accountability must apply to everyone, irrespective of status.
He also identified values, institutions and the rule of law as essential pillars of a sustainable anti-corruption framework, stressing the need to cultivate integrity, establish transparent procedures, strengthen effective oversight and ensure that violations of the law attract appropriate consequences.
The International Diplomatic Dialogue was organised by the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), the research and training arm of the Commission, as a platform for sharing knowledge, ideas and experiences on anti-corruption practices across different countries.

The 661 Nigerian Air Force Hospital, Ikeja, has earned Full Accreditation for Optometry Services and Internship Training following a comprehensive accreditation exercise conducted by the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN).

The exercise, led by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Dr Obinna Edwin Awiaka, assessed the hospital’s optometric services, facilities, clinical standards and capacity to provide quality internship training in accordance with established professional and regulatory requirements.
The accreditation team was warmly received by the Commander, 661 NAF Hospital, Air Commodore AS Oyenusi, the Officer Commanding the Eye Clinic, Flight Lieutenant CP Pedro, and other members of the hospital management. Following a thorough evaluation, the hospital was granted Full Accreditation, valid for four years.
The achievement underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery, professional excellence and the development of competent healthcare professionals through effective supervision, structured training and appropriate clinical exposure.
The accreditation further demonstrates the NAF’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare workforce and advancing quality patient care, in line with the vision and strategic priorities of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, while supporting the objectives of the Renewed Hope Health Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

IGP Disu Unveils NPF, NPF–MTN CUG Network to Strengthen Fraud Response, Police Communication
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, Tuesday, 1st September 2026, launched the Nigeria Police Force Vigilant App and the NPF–MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network at the NPF Conference Centre, Jabi, Abuja, to strengthen public engagement, financial-fraud reporting, secure communication and operational response.

The event was attended by representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, members of the Police Service Commission board, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, financial institutions, fintech companies, MTN Nigeria, Vigilant Technology Limited, TIMPH International Limited, and other relevant partners.
The NPF Vigilant App is a citizen-facing platform developed by the Force ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial-services ecosystem to facilitate prompt reporting of suspected financial fraud. The App enables users to submit reports, upload relevant evidence, track cases, and receive feedback, while supporting coordination with relevant institutions in line with extant laws and procedures.
The NPF–MTN CUG Network is a dedicated platform designed to provide police personnel nationwide with secure and affordable on-net communication. The initiative is expected to enhance communication, emergency coordination and operational response across commands and units.
In his remarks, the IGP described the initiatives as another practical step in the Force’s digital-transformation drive, noting that the Vigilant App will strengthen engagement with members of the public, while the CUG Network will improve communication within the Force. He stated that both platforms are intended to make the Nigeria Police Force more connected, responsive and effective.
The Inspector-General reiterated that technology remains an enabler of professional policing and must be deployed lawfully, ethically and responsibly, with due regard for citizens’ rights, privacy, data protection and accountability. He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustained collaboration with relevant institutions and the private sector in enhancing public safety and national security.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, stated that the initiatives demonstrate the Force’s resolve to deploy practical technology-driven solutions that improve service delivery, support personnel and strengthen public engagement. He urged Nigerians to download the NPF Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly to report suspected financial fraud.

The Nigerian Navy, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has foiled an illegal recruitment and training scheme operating outside the framework of recognised law and regulatory authority, with the potential to defraud unsuspecting members of the public in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The operation was conducted on 31 August 2026 by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) JUBILEE, in collaboration with Headquarters 2 Brigade/Operation THUNDER, 6 Battalion Nigerian Army and operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, following credible intelligence on the activities of a purported Nigeria Coast Guard Academy at Uwa West, Essien Udim.
The joint team raided the Merchant Seaman Academy, which was allegedly being used as a venue for the unauthorised recruitment and training of persons presented as provisional cadets of the purported agency. Preliminary findings indicated that the recruitment and training activities were not authorised or recognised under applicable law, raising concerns that unsuspecting Nigerians could be lured into the scheme through false representations.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 12 persons, comprising six suspected organisers/officials, five recruits or trainees and one cadet of the Merchant Seaman Academy. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Violent Crime Response Unit of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The intervention highlights the Nigerian Navy’s proactive approach to identifying emerging threats before they develop into wider security and public-safety challenges. The operation has also helped disrupt a structure allegedly exploiting the legitimate aspirations of Nigerians seeking careers in the maritime and security sectors.
The Nigerian Navy urges members of the public to exercise caution when responding to recruitment advertisements or offers from purported security, maritime or military organisations, particularly where such organisations cannot establish appropriate legal recognition or regulatory approval. Prospective applicants are encouraged to verify the authenticity of such organisations and recruitment exercises through appropriate government channels before committing funds or personal information.

The successful operation further demonstrates the value of intelligence-led action and inter-agency cooperation in protecting citizens from criminal exploitation. The Nigerian Navy remains committed to working with sister security agencies to safeguard lives and property, disrupt criminal enterprises and deny unscrupulous elements the opportunity to exploit the public.
