IGP Disu Participates in One-year Remembrance and Public Lecture in Honor of Late IGP Solomon Arase

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 31st August 2026, participated in the public lecture organised to mark the one-year remembrance of the late Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase (Rtd), PhD, CFR, NPM, FCIArb, fdc, who passed away on August 31, 2025.

The lecture, themed ‘Policing, Good Governance, and National Development: The Strategic Role of Police Veterans in Building a Secure Nigeria,’ featured guest speakers drawn from retired officers of the Nigeria Police Force and close associates of the late IGP Arase (Rtd), including Professor Etannibi Alemika.

The event was attended by former Inspectors-General of Police, IGP Sunday Ehindero (Rtd) and IGP Mohammed Abubakar (Rtd), alongside other notable dignitaries, including the representative of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State; AIG Yemi Ogunyemilusi (Rtd); the chairman, Board of Trustees, Police Veterans’ Foundation, DIG Mohammed Yesufu (Rtd); the National President, Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu; the widow of the late IGP, Mrs Agharese Arase; past Presidents of POWA; the representative of the Chairman, Police Service Commission; AIG Tunde Mobayo (Rtd), the representative of the Director, Veterans Affairs, Defence Headquarters, C.A. Baushe; and members of the Force Management Team, alongside other senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, serving and retired.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Police Veterans’ Foundation, DIG Mohammed Yesufu (Rtd), described the late IGP as an exceptional leader whose founding and chairmanship of the Foundation reflected his enduring commitment to the welfare of retired police officers. He called for the establishment of a Veterans Affairs Department within the Nigeria Police Force to further advance the Foundation’s mandate and ensure that retired officers continue to benefit from relevant Federal Government programmes and support, in keeping with the legacy of the late IGP Arase.

In his tribute, IGP Disu described the late IGP Arase as a man who understood that policing is, at its core, about protecting people’s lives, respecting their dignity, and building public confidence in the police. He noted that the late IGP’s contributions to policing extended well beyond his years in service, describing him as a leader distinguished by service, intellect, integrity, humanity and sacrifice, whose legacy will continue to endure.

In her goodwill message, the National President, POWA, Chief Mrs Mutiat Disu, commended the late Veteran’s selfless service, citing in particular his unwavering scholarship support for children of fallen officers and his efforts to address the socio-economic challenges faced by retired personnel. She described him as an embodiment of peace, sacrifice, and professionalism under the most trying circumstances.

The event drew wide participation from retired police officers and associates of the late IGP, with discussions centered on good governance, leadership, and the continual growth of the Foundation. Participants appealed for the Police Veterans’ Foundation to be developed into a lasting, lifelong institution. The event concluded with the presentation of awards to beneficiaries, including Mrs Agharese Arase.

NPF Arrests Four Suspects Over Organ Harvesting and Human Trafficking Syndicate in Nasarawa

The Nigeria Police Force, through operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS), on 27th August 2026, paraded four suspects arrested in connection with an organ harvesting and human trafficking syndicate operating in Nasarawa State.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Special Tactical Squad carried out a sting operation on 19th August 2026 at about 18:00 hrs in Auta Balifi, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, which led to the arrest of the suspects. Clothes purchased with proceeds of the crime were recovered as exhibits during the operation.

The suspects arrested are Emmanuel Ode, male, 23 years, of Auta Balifi, Nasarawa State; Dr. Benjamin Oyime, male, 48 years, of Edo State, a Nephrologist (Kidney Consultant) and Consultant to Wellington Hospital, Life Camp, Abuja; Dr. Daniel Otukpa, male, 53 years, of Benue State, also a Nephrologist and Acting Director of Clinical Services at Wellington Hospital; and David Idoko, male, 25 years.

During interrogation, Emmanuel Ode confessed to recruiting victims under false pretenses. He disclosed that on 24th April 2026, he lured one Samuel Ezekiel, 22, to Wellington Hospital, Life Camp, Abuja, where his kidney was allegedly harvested for the sum of $1,250 USD (One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty US Dollars), equivalent to ₦1,700,000.00 (One Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) at the current exchange rate. A second victim alleged that he was lured by the same agent in 2022 to a hospital where his kidney was harvested, for which he was paid the sum of ₦7,000,000.00 (Seven Million Naira).

Investigations revealed that the suspects and their accomplices allegedly targeted vulnerable and uneducated young persons within Nasarawa State and its environs, exploiting their financial desperation to obtain consent for illegal organ harvesting. Evidence gathered indicates that the suspects forged official documents, including victims’ names, National Identification Numbers (NIN), birth certificates, age declarations, affidavits, and consent letters to facilitate these criminal activities.

Trafficking

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its unwavering commitment to dismantling human trafficking and organ harvesting networks across the country and protecting vulnerable citizens from exploitation. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects connected to the syndicate.

Police Arrests Suspects Over Staged Kidnapping, Recovers Child; Uncovers Abduction and Armed Robbery Syndicate

The Nigeria Police Force, through operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), has uncovered a staged kidnapping scheme and separately arrested members of a suspected kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate in two intelligence-led investigations.

In the first case, operatives arrested Nansik Wuyep Sule, 34, in connection with the reported kidnapping of two-year-old Rito Jesse Davou. Investigation revealed that Sule allegedly conspired with the child’s biological mother, Catherine Davou, to stage the kidnapping and create the impression that the child had been abducted, with an initial ransom demand of ₦7 million.

Further investigation revealed that the child was kept at Sule’s residence, where a subsequent ransom demand of ₦15 million was made. Another suspect, Luka Emmanuel Butdam, was also arrested for allegedly making calls to the child’s grandmother in connection with the ransom demand.

The child was subsequently located and safely rescued and, after receiving medical attention, handed over to his biological father.

In a separate investigation, operatives arrested Idris Mohammed a.k.a. Yellow and Mohammed Bello Adams over their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a commercial driver, Idris Zakari Baba, and other related criminal activities.

Investigation revealed that the victim was allegedly lured under the pretext of conveying Mohammed from Abuja to Zaria before being intercepted by armed men, taken into the bush and held until a ransom of ₦3 million was paid. The victim’s vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Corolla, was subsequently traced to Bauchi State and recovered while Mohammed was attempting to sell it.

Further investigation also linked the suspects to the reported kidnapping of Pastor David Dahni and his driver, Abdullahi Abubakar, for which a ransom of ₦10.5 million was reportedly paid.

Police Arrests

The Nigeria Police Force continues to investigate the cases to identify other persons connected to the criminal activities and establish the full extent of the suspects’ involvement.
