NSCDC To Collaborate With Hunters, Vigilantes Says Ogun Assembly
NSCDC to collaborate with hunters, vigilantes says Ogun assembly. The speaker, Oludaisi Elemide (APC-Odeda), made the call when Remilekun Ekundayo, the new NSCDC commander in Ogun, visited him in Abeokuta.
The Ogun House of Assembly has urged the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to strengthen collaboration with local security outfits to ensure an effective security network across the state.
The speaker, Oludaisi Elemide (APC-Odeda), made the call when Remilekun Ekundayo, the new NSCDC commander in Ogun, visited him in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Mr Elemide identified local security outfits, such as the Amotekun Corps, So Safe Corps, Vigilante Service, and Hunters Association.
He said the move would assist the NSCDC in achieving its core mandate of securing critical national assets.
The speaker assured the corps of the assembly’s support in the provision of necessary tools through advocacies.
According to him, lawmakers are ready to collaborate with NSCDC and provide the needed support to ensure the effective security of farmlands and national assets.
Other lawmakers who spoke requested the deployment of more NSCDC officers to rural areas, specifically for the protection of farmers and their farmlands.
They lauded the NSCDC for creating the Agro-Ranger Unit within the corps to protect farmers and farmlands nationwide.
Earlier, Ms Ekundayo appreciated the state legislature’s role in making the state relatively peaceful through legislative instruments and collaboration with other arms of government.
She reiterated the commitment of the NSCDC to performing its core functions of protecting national critical assets and infrastructure, including lives and property.
Ms Ekundayo informed lawmakers that besides the counter-terrorism and anti-vandal sections of the corps, the NSCDC also inaugurated a female squad to man schools and protect school children from kidnapping.

The commander explained that the move was initiated in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
She commended the state government for its continued support of the corps and appealed for more support to enable the NSCDC to enhance its security efficiency.

EFCC Arraigns One For N4.5m Fraud In Maiduguri
The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, May 4, 2026 arraigned one Gambomi Muhammed before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri.
The defendant was arraigned on a ten- count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence to the sum of N4,500,000.00 (Four Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira).

Count nine of the charge reads: “That you, Gambomi Muhammed between the period of June, 2022 and February, 2023 in Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court with intent to defraud obtained the aggregate sum of N4, 500,000.00 (Four Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) from Musa Yusuf, Kamilu Abubakar, Daniel Kwatri Tizhe, Mustapha Adamu, Yakubu Audu, Kadir Abdullahi, Yakubu John and Cosmas Peter under the false pretense that you will secure an employment for them at Nigerian Correctional Service a representation which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (1) and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.”
The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charge preferred against him by the EFCC.
Following his plea; counsel to the prosecution, S.O Saka prayed for a trial date and the remand of the defendant in a Correctional facility.

Thereafter, Justice Kumaliya adjourned the matter till May 8, 2026 for commencement of hearing and remanded the defendant in Maiduguri Maximum Correctional facility.
The defendant’s journey to the Correctional facility started when he collected money from several individuals under the guise of securing employment for them at Nigerian Correctional Service, a representation which is false. He diverted the money to his own personal use.

ICPC Announces Further Developments In The Ongoing Trial Of El-Rufai, before the High Court
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) wishes to inform the public of further developments in the ongoing trial of former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, before the Federal High Court, Kaduna, following proceedings held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
The ICPC had filed a 10-count charge against Mallam El-Rufai and Mr. Joel Adoga before Honourable Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court, Kaduna.

The charges relate to alleged conversion and possession of proceeds of corruption, as well as money laundering offences contrary to the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022 and other relevant laws.
Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
At the previous sitting, the court had admitted Mallam El-Rufai to bail in the sum of ₦200 million and two sureties in like sum, while the administrative bail granted to the second defendant, Mr. Joel Adoga was adopted by the court.
Wednesday’s proceedings came up for the hearing of El-Rufai’s motion seeking variation of the bail conditions earlier granted by the court.
At the proceedings, Dr. Agada Akogwu appeared for the prosecution, while Oluwole Olaniyan SAN led a team of defence counsel that adopted the motion for variation of bail conditions, while prosecution counsel adopted a counter-affidavit in opposition to the application.
Following arguments from both sides, the court adjourned the matter to Thursday, May 7, 2026, for ruling.
In the course of proceedings, the defence counsel also made a compassionate plea urging the court to direct the Commission to allow the defendant access to medical treatment, specifically for dental and eye care, at designated facilities in Abuja.
Ruling on this application, the court granted the request and directed the ICPC to convey Mallam El-Rufai, under strict supervision, to medical facilities of his choice, including Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital, Abuja, whenever the need arises, and to return him to custody immediately after such treatment.

The court emphasized that all such movements shall remain under the strict supervision of ICPC.
The ICPC remains committed to complying fully with the orders of the court while ensuring lawful custody of the defendant pending the fulfilment of bail conditions.
The ICPC reiterates its dedication to due process and assures the public that the prosecution of the case is being conducted diligently and in accordance with the law.

ICPC Sensitised The Staff Of NDLEA, Kogi Command
In a renewed push to curb corruption across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Kogi State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) sensitised the staff of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi Command.
The enlightenment campaign was designed to enlighten the drug law enforcement officials on the nature and impact of corruption, its debilitating effect on the Nigerian state, and to secure their active support in tackling the menace while enforcing drug laws in Nigeria.

The ICPC team, led by Mr Mannir Muhammad, was received by the Kogi State Commandant of NDLEA, Mr Mustapha Yahuza, while the sentisation paper was presented by Mr Dauda Iliya, an Assistant Chief Superintendent from the ICPC’s Public Education Department.
It drew participants into the core mandates of the Commission: Investigations and Prosecution, System Studies and Review, as well as Education and Public Enlightenment. Key highlights included offences and penalties as contained in the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000, the role of citizens in fighting corruption, and specific forms of corruption within the NDLEA alongside practical measures to curb them.
The Commission’s anti-corruption strategy, deployed to achieve its mandate, was also outlined.
These strategies encompass: Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units in MDAs; Asset Tracing, Recovery and Management; System Studies and Review; Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation; Public Enlightenment and Education; Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Initiative; Schools Anti-Corruption Clubs; and the National Values Curriculum, amongst others.

The presentation prompted several questions from NDLEA staff, including the differences between the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the legal consequences of virement, and whether the ICPC is empowered only to investigate public officials – all of which were duly answered.
In his vote of thanks, the second-in-command, Mr Taiwo Abiodun, expressed gratitude to the ICPC for affording the Command’s staff the opportunity to better understand the Federal Government’s current anti-corruption drive, as well as how to operate strictly within the ambit of the law.
