Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) approves Akwa Ibom for 2025 Judiciary Sports Games. Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has approved Akwa Ibom State to host the 2025 Judiciary Sports Competition.
She urged officials to uphold discipline, avoid misconduct, ensure proper accounting, and improve gender inclusion.

Governor Umo Eno gifts house, N100m studio to visually impaired singer. Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom, has announced a life-changing package for fast-rising gospel singer Chris Vic.
In a statement shared via X on Sunday, the governor detailed a comprehensive empowerment plan for the singer, who captured national attention after his impressive third-place finish in the De9ja Spirit Talent Hunt.
Eno stated that he has directed the state commissioner for lands to allocate a prime plot of land to Chris Vic in Uyo, the state capital.
He also pledged that a four-bedroom apartment will be constructed on the land, with the certificate of occupancy to be signed and presented in the coming week.
The governor committed a staggering N100 million specifically for the establishment of a fully equipped music studio for the artiste.
He clarified that the fund is separate from the costs of the land and housing construction. Eno declared that for the duration of his tenure, Vic will receive a monthly allowance of N1 million from the state government.
“I have directed the Commissioner for Lands to allocate a plot of land in Uyo to Chris Vic, and I will sign the Certificate of Occupancy next week,” he wrote.
“We will also build him a four-bedroom flat and commit ₦100 million to set up his music studio. This is separate from the cost of the land and the house. In addition, as long as I remain Governor, he will receive a monthly allowance of ₦1 million.”

The governor framed his gesture as a testament to divine faithfulness and human resilience.
“Let this remind us that even in difficult moments, God is still good. Chris Vic shows us that praise is possible in every situation. I also want him, and all persons with disabilities, to know that this government cares,” he added.
In a recent interview with De9ja Spirit Talent Hunt, Vic revealed that he lost his eyesight at the age of five following a failed glaucoma surgery.
He said he found solace and purpose in music, driven by the desire to nurture the talent he believed God gave him.

Umo Eno, Naval Chief agree on new Naval Base in Akwa Ibom Community. A new naval base is to be established at the Ibeno axis on Akwa Ibom State.
The development is to boost further safety of maritime infrastructure in the State.
This was disclosed during a courtesy visit on Governor Umo Eno, by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, in his office.
Admiral Abbas said he was in the State to pay homage and respect to the Governor before touring the naval units in the State as part of his operational visit to the Eastern Naval Command.
The Chief of the Naval Staff who was only recently appointed by the President, said he is going round to have first hand information on all units in the State, and his visit to the Governor was to also enable him thank the Governor for the support to the Navy since assumption of office.
“Akwa Ibom is critical as most of the critical national assets are in the State.
“We are open to continuous collaborations with the state to protect critical national assets.
“Security is everyone’s responsibility and we we need more support from the State.
“I was briefed of the base being proposed in the State. If we have an LOP, outpost or a base in Ibeno, we will appreciate”, Admiral Abbas said.
Responding, Governor Umo Eno commended the Chief of Naval Staff on his appointment by the President.
He thanked the President for the appointment, noting that it came at a time where there was need to intensify efforts to protect maritime assets across the country.
The Governor said he is ready to issue a certificate of occupancy to ensure the establishment of the base in Ibeno.
He appreciated the supportive role of the Nigerian Navy, and asked for more collaborations.
“One of the major contracts we signed some months ago, was the construction of a passenger ferry by the Nigerian Navy for our Marine Jetty and other facilities in Oron.

He mentioned the gunboats donated to the Navy as part of his holistic approach towards enhancing security in the State.
“In my administration, we take security very seriously and that is why we created the Ministry of Internal Security headed by Gen. Koko Essien, ( rtd).
Governor Eno thanked all security agencies for their collaborative role in maintaining peace in the State, assured that he was favourably disposed to working all to expand the frontiers of peace in the State.
“We run an all -inclusive government where women, youths, retired military officers, all play major roles.

Akwa Ibom ranked 2025’s cleanest state in Nigeria, followed by Ebonyi, Enugu, Others. Akwa Ibom won the Stone 2025 Unbroken Green Crystal award Trophy and medal of service award for the eighth consecutive time.
Akwa Ibom has been ranked the cleanest state in Nigeria for 2025, with a accumulative score of 79 per cent according to the State of the Nigerian Environment Report STONE 2025.
Ene Owoh, national coordinator Clean-Up Nigeria said this in an interview with in Abuja on Wednesday.
Akwa Ibom won the Stone 2025 Unbroken Green Crystal award Trophy and medal of service award for the eighth consecutive time, from 2018 to 2025.
Mr Owoh who is also the secretary of the National Technical Study Group, said that the results were arrived at, during the State of the Nigerian Environment Report STONE 2025 unbroken and the Cleanliness Performance Index Ratings of all states in Nigeria, held in Abuja.
Ebonyi and Enugu followed closely, ranking second and third with 65 per cent and 56 per cent respectively.
Mr Owoh stated that the six geopolitical zones produced cleanliness champions namely Akwa Ibom (South-South), 79 per cent, Enugu (South-East) 65 per cent. Lagos (South-West), 48 per cent Bauchi (North-East), 50 per cent, Plateau (North-Central), 52 per cent, and Kaduna North-West, 35 per cent.
The nine clean states are Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Plateau, Cross River, Anambra, Lagos, and the FCT.
The 15-member NTSG, led by Solomon Balogun, conducted the yearly study from November 2024 to November 2025.
“The study combined physical verification of all states and towns in Nigeria with a score point of 20 per cent and satellite imagery system that collects spectral data scoring 80 per cent monthly. The study used five variables namely :street/road cleanliness, vegetation and drainage control, waste management services, public opinion poll (POP), and knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of hygiene and sanitation measures by the people.
“The report stated that in 2025, there was an 8 per cent performance in the procurement of waste management equipment by governments at all levels.
Owoh said that however, the health of sanitation workers dropped from 31 per cent in 2024 to 28 per cent in 2025.
“The incidence of sanitation-related diseases increased to 43 per cent in 2025, against 29 per cent recorded in 2024. The hygiene and sanitation practice of the people dropped to 32 per cent in 2025, against 36 per cent recorded in 2024. Open defecation has reduced from 24 per cent in 2024 to 19 per cent in 2025, but Nigeria remains the second country with the highest open defecation rating globally. Notably, in 2025, out of Nigeria’s estimated 240 million population, 187.2 million people are living in unclean environments, based on satellite imagery data,” he stated.
According to the STONE report, the life expectancy of Nigerians has dropped from 50 years in 2024 to 47 years in 2025.
Mr Owoh, therefore, called on governments at all levels to increase funding for waste management services and urged citizens to prioritise hygiene and sanitation practices.

Mr Owoh advocated for increased construction of public toilets to reduce open defecation and supported the establishment of health and environment clubs in schools nationwide to promote environmental awareness.
He expressed Clean- Up Nigeria’s willingness to partner with government and private sectors to improve cleanliness ratings nationwide.
He commended first lady Oluremi Tinubu for her green initiative project and urged Presisent Bola Tinubu’s administration to adopt a green environmental agenda, focusing on city and nature living, energy research, green economy, and resources management.
