ADC Slams Senate Over E-Transmission Rejection

ADC: Powerful APC Figures Pressuring INEC To Recognise Factional ADC Chairman

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over alleged attempts by “powerful figures” within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to influence its internal leadership ahead of the 2027 general election.

A statement on Monday by Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national publicity secretary, said the ADC was aware of efforts to promote Nafiu Gombe as the party’s national chairman.

Abdullahi noted that Gombe had been previously expelled from the party.

“Mr Gombe, who once claimed to be Deputy National Chairman under the former National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, was duly expelled from the ADC after engaging in actions that were inconsistent with the party’s constitution, its principles, and the collective decisions of its leadership,” the statement reads.

“The objective is clear: to manufacture confusion within the ADC, sponsor illegitimate leadership claims, and ultimately cripple the only credible opposition platform that Nigerians are increasingly looking to as a genuine alternative, thereby leaving Nigerians with no real choice in the next general election, despite the widespread suffering the ruling party has brought on the people.

“We, therefore, wonder at the level of desperation driving these anti-democratic forces to continue their sinister efforts to impose expelled individuals on the party or manipulate its internal structures through external political pressure on judges and electoral officials.”

He noted that a combined meeting of the party’s national working committee (NWC) and national executive committee (NEC) in July 2025, witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), transferred leadership to the coalition led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.

Abdullahi noted that the transition was formally recognised by INEC in September 2025.

The ADC spokesperson also highlighted that a federal high court dismissed a case challenging Mark’s leadership on March 6, affirming the party’s internal processes and the supreme court’s previous judgment that leadership matters are primarily an internal party affair.

Abdullahi called on the public, party members, and democratic institutions to respect the ADC’s constitutionally recognised leadership and to disregard claims made by unauthorised individuals.

He noted that the party remains committed to strengthening internal democracy and providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.

The intervention carried out by the NNPC Foundation Ltd./Gte., the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of NNPC Limited, involved the rehabilitation and upgrade of Wards G, H, and J, complete with the installation of new beds and the introduction of a central medical gas system designed to enhance the standard of care provided by the hospital.

The rehabilitation also included the replacement of roofing and ceiling of the Wards, upgrade of electrical and mechanical systems, and installation of new vinyl floors in all three wards.

Prior to the intervention, the wards were in a state that limited their use, which in turn constrained the hospital’s in-patient care capacity.

Speaking at the commissioning and handover ceremony, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, explained that the concept of profitability in NNPC Limited is not restricted to increase in production and revenue alone, as it embraces the level of social impact the company makes.

The GCEO, who was represented by the Chief Financial Officer, Adedapo Segun, said the Company is proud of the rehabilitation and upgrade work done in the hospital’s wards, because of its immense social impact.

On her part, Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Emmanuella Arukwe, said through the intervention, NNPC Foundation has helped to strengthen a facility that has served Nigerians for many decades.

“Beyond the immediate benefits, this effort reflects the role NNPC Foundation plays as the social impact arm of NNPC Limited. Our focus remains on practical interventions that improve lives and align with national priorities in healthcare”, she stated.

Providing further view into the project, the Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Dr. Wakeel Lawal, said the Management was constrained by the dire situation of the facilities to write to NNPC Foundation for intervention.

He expressed gratitude to the Management of NNPC Limited for granting the request and delivering an outstanding transformation in bringing the wards to international standards, stressing that what NNPC Limited has done goes beyond rehabilitation. It represents a renewal of hope. The commissioning and handover was witnessed by NNPC Ltd.’s Executive Vice President – Business Services, Mrs Sophia Mbakwe.

ICPC Niger Hosts Lecture On Asset Disclosure To Fortify Transparency, Accountability

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Niger State Office, recently hosted a capacity-building lecture centred on asset disclosure, designed to deepen officers’ understanding of compliance and ethical standards within the public service.

Held at the Commission’s conference hall in Minna, the session featured Mr. Gabriel Dairo, a representative of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), who delivered an insightful presentation on the legal and procedural framework of asset declaration.

In his opening remarks, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) welcomed the guest lecturer and participants, underscoring the critical role of transparency and accountability in reinforcing public trust.

He emphasised that rigorous adherence to asset disclosure requirements remains a cornerstone in the fight against corruption, describing it as both a legal obligation and a moral compass for public officers.

Mr. Dairo’s presentation offered a comprehensive overview of Nigeria’s statutory and institutional architecture governing asset declaration. He meticulously outlined step-by-step procedures for accurately completing declaration forms, clarified persistent misconceptions, and highlighted the legal ramifications of non-compliance—warning that failure to properly declare assets could result in sanctions under extant laws.

An interactive segment followed, enabling participants to engage directly with the resource person on practical challenges, grey areas, and technical nuances of the declaration process.

Umahi Receives New NLNG CEO, Announces President’s Approval For Dualisation Of Road Linking Bodo-Bonny To East-West Road

The Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, has received the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, Adeleye Falade, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, using the occasion to announce fresh approval for a major road project in Rivers State.

The meeting, held on Wednesday, focused on the completed Bodo-Bonny Road and the next phase of development that will link it to the East-West Road, an important route for movement of people and goods in the Niger Delta.

Speaking during the visit, the Minister revealed that the President, HE Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, CON has approved the dualisation of the 8.9-kilometre road connecting Bodo-Bonny to the East-West Road. The project will be constructed with concrete and will include two flyovers, solar-powered streetlights, and modern monitoring systems.

“I have listed that project for the president, he will tell me when he is ready for the commissioning and I will let you know and graciously he has also approved the 8.9km dualized and this time on concrete with two flyovers. We are working with Julius Berger since they are on site, it is more economical for us for them to continue. With the information I’m having from PPP I think the cost is about 150billion because it is a very terrible terrain, two flyovers and solar powered light, tree planting and also some rest house where we will stay and monitor the CCTV.”

Umahi explained that part of the funds saved from the Bodo-Bonny Road project has already been redirected to improve the road with solar lights and tree planting.

“We made some savings from the Bodo-Bonny and we directed them to use this savings to put solar light and then plant trees within that axis. So, I want to assure you that we work very closely with you and we are not going to be on that project when awarded for more then twelve months and the price will not be reviewed. So make it very clear in our agreement with you and us and them.”

The Minister said the Tinubu administration is focused on building durable roads that will last for decades, while also improving safety and boosting economic activities.

“I want to commend you very highly and I say that the president infrastructure revolution in Nigeria is quite unprecedented. There is no part of this country that you don’t see solid work going on and we are not talking about just road construction, he is building a road that will last between 50-100years with minimal maintenance and that is what he stands for.

For the first time you see road is built, it has solar light. So that people can travel at night and it will increase commercial activity and also safety on the road. He has also directed to start mapping out our to put CCTV on our roads and have viewing points so that response them at every point in time will not be more than 10mins.”

Earlier, Abdul Humaru introduced the NLNG team, saying: “We are here to introduce our new managing director and CEO and for a courtesy visit as well.”

In his remarks, the NLNG boss, Adeleye Falade, thanked the Federal Government for its support, especially on the Bodo-Bonny Road, which he said is already making life easier for residents and businesses.

“Just like Abdul said it is a courtesy visit but it is more than courtesy, we want to take this privilege to express gratitude particularly on Bodo Bonny road.

I want to thank you for the support. The road as we have communicated is completed now, we are actually waiting for when you will give us a date for official commissioning but we know people are already using it. The road changed a lot of things about the activities on the Island.

I went on the road myself from my office in Port Harcourt. It took me one and a half hours from my office to Bonny that is something that will ordinarily take us four hours.”

“We are grateful for the support. We are also grateful for the consideration of that 8.9km that leads into the East west road that enables us to maximize that particular road. We are still waiting for advice, who is going to handle that going forward. We are ready to provide support as well. So, today we have come to show gratitude for the support that we have gotten from you.”
