NPF Sets to Host International Youth Day (IYD) 2026: National Youth Leadership and Security Initiative

The Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public of its forthcoming International Youth Day (IYD) 2026 programme, scheduled to hold from 20th to 22nd August, 2026, at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, with corresponding activities across Zonal and State Commands nationwide.

The programme, themed “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” in line with the United Nations International Youth Day theme, is a flagship preventive policing initiative aimed at promoting youth leadership, responsible citizenship, innovation, entrepreneurship, digital responsibility, and peaceful democratic participation. It also seeks to strengthen Police-Youth partnerships in building safer communities.

The three-day event will feature a range of activities, including youth leadership dialogues, moderated Police–Youth engagement sessions, panel discussions, innovation and entrepreneurship showcases, a peace and security walkathon, novelty sporting activities, a national tree planting initiative tagged “Plant Peace. Grow Nigeria.

Secure the Future,” as well as youth honours and awards. The programme will also include the launch of a publication titled Esteemed Youths: A National Youth Reorientation Resource on 22nd August, 2026.

As part of the initiative, two nationwide reorientation campaigns will be launched: “My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery,” aimed at discouraging political violence, electoral thuggery, and digital manipulation; and “Think Before You Click. Verify Before You Share,” which promotes responsible digital citizenship and addresses misinformation, disinformation, cyberbullying, and the misuse of emerging technologies.

The Nigeria Police Force invites Ministries, Departments and Agencies, development partners, diplomatic missions, youth organisations, educational institutions, civil society organisations, faith-based organisations, the private sector, and members of the public to participate in and support the initiative. FUTI Anti-Corruption Unit Sensitises Management on Preventive Measures Against Workplace Corruption

The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), recently conducted a sensitisation programme for members of the University’s management cadre as part of a broader effort to strengthen institutional integrity and promote transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct within the administration.

The programme, themed “Administrative Measures for Controlling Workplace Corruption,” brought together principal officers and other members of the management team to examine administrative strategies to prevent corruption and reinforce good governance.

In his welcome address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr Mikail Aremu Akande, welcomed the delegation from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), members of the university’s ACTU, and management staff to the event.

Dr. Akande reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting anti-corruption initiatives and fostering a culture of integrity across the university, further describing the programme as timely and noting that it would deepen management’s understanding of preventive measures whilst reinforcing their collective responsibility for sustaining an integrity-driven institution.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the University’s ACTU, Mr Okuwoga Bamidele, thanked the management for its continued support of the Unit’s activities and emphasised the need for sustained collaboration in promoting ethical conduct and preventing corruption.

Mr Bamidele observed that effective anti-corruption efforts require not only the investigation and sanctioning of misconduct but also the establishment of sound administrative systems capable of preventing corruption, identifying institutional risks, and promoting accountability.

The lead paper, titled “Strengthening Institutional Integrity: Administrative Measures for Preventing Workplace Corruption in the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro,” was presented by Mr Tope Eegunjobi of the ICPC System Study and Review Department.

The paper examined corruption as a systemic institutional challenge and highlighted the importance of robust internal control systems, transparent procurement processes, conflict-of-interest management, digitalisation of administrative procedures, effective whistleblowing mechanisms, periodic system reviews, appropriate sanctions, and ethical leadership.

An interactive session followed, during which participants engaged with the resource person, seeking clarifications on corruption prevention, institutional controls, and administrative processes.

The discussions provided an opportunity to examine practical administrative challenges and identify measures to strengthen existing systems and controls within the university.

The event was attended by principal officers and members of the university’s management, including the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Bursar, University Librarian, Deans of Schools, and Directors.

Tinubu Government Unveils Guards to Protect Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The Federal Government has launched the Coastal Highway Guards to protect the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway from vandalism and other unauthorised activities.

The Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, Jubril Gawat, disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday.

According to Gawat, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, launched the initiative with an initial 40 officers.

He wrote, “The Honorable Minister of Works, Senator @realdaveumahi, today launched the COASTAL HIGHWAY GUARDS, starting with 40 officers. These personnel will be in charge of:

“Maintaining presence on the highway; reporting suspicious activities; restricting hawking on the Coastal Highway;

“Reporting and monitoring any form of vandalism; restricting keke or okada on the Coastal Highway; and restricting loitering on the Coastal Highway.”

Gawat said the team would be led by retired Gen. Adekunle Shodunke and would work with security agencies in the state.

He quoted Umahi as saying the initiative was not an empowerment programme but a full-time job aimed at protecting government assets.

“The Hon. Minister says this is not an ‘empowerment program’, It is a full time job to protect National Assets of the Government and in line with the Renewed Hope of Mr President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR,” Gawat said.

Earlier on Sunday, Umahi expressed concern over activities along sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, particularly the removal of construction materials and illegal occupation of the highway.

“We have had very terrible, unpatriotic elements removing the blocks, breaking the fence, removing the rods and treading on the highway. This must stop,” Umahi said.

He directed the Works Controller in Lagos to ensure that motorcycles, tricycles, hawkers and other unauthorised activities were kept off the coastal highway.

“Their job is that no keke on the coastal highway, no motorcycle on the coastal highway, and no loitering. There is no superhighway all over the country where you see people loitering,” he said.

“Last night, we were there with the National Assembly members by 11 pm; people were sleeping on the coastal highway. It must stop. No hawking, no occupation illegally along the entire coast.”

Umahi also called on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to strengthen its protection of strategic national infrastructure.

He disclosed that the ministry had opened its ongoing projects to scrutiny by anti-corruption agencies.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a 750-kilometre, 10-lane highway being developed to connect Lagos to Cross River, passing through Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.

The project is being undertaken by Hitech Construction Company Limited under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works.
