Umo Eno Second Anniversary, Achievements In Roads Construction

Umo Eno Second anniversary, achievements in eoads construction. In his inaugural address on May 29, 2023, Governor Umo Eno unequivocally pledged to persist in the advancement of infrastructural development within Akwa Ibom State.

As of October 18, 2024, the Umo Eno administration had allocated a massive fund totaling N208.16 billion for road and related projects, both initiated by the administration and inherited from previous governments.

Moreover, during the festive season of Christmas 2024, Governor Eno made an additional significant investment of N50 billion into road construction projects. He urged contracting firms to forego the customary holiday break during the Yuletide, emphasizing the urgency and importance of these projects.

Several road projects have been successfully completed and commissioned, including the expansive 12-lane Airport Road, now officially named Udom Emmanuel Boulevard, along with 13 internal roads within the Uyo metropolis.

Key developments commissioned have also included internal roads at Akpan Andem Market and its surroundings, the Amphitheatre Christmas Village Arena, the Atiku Abubakar Road underground tunnel designed for flood control, and the Spring Road (Goretti Secondary School Road) in Ikot Ekpene.

Other notable projects commissioned also encompass the 9.76 km Ikot Eyo-Edem Idim Okpot-Mbiekene-Nung Obong-Ikot Ntung-East West Road, the 13.6 km Ikot Obio Offong-Nung Ukana (Spur I to Afaha Ikot Owop)-Obetok-Obongntong-Enen Nsit-Afaha Udoeyop Road, and the 4.9 km Ekparakwa-Ntak Ibesit Road in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.

More projects commissioned include the Nto Ide-Ikot Amba road and a 60-meter bridge project, as well as the 23.5 km Ikot Ekaide-Ikot Okoro-Ikot Ibritam road, which features two bridges measuring 20 meters and 80 meters respectively, and a 4 km Secretariat road in Udung Uko Local Government Area, among others.

In 2025, Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to road infrastructure will be further underscored by a substantial allocation of 220 billion Naira through the budget of consolidation, making road construction one of the most significantly funded sectors in this year’s budgetary provisions.

The vision and imperative articulated by Governor Umo Eno regarding the expansion and enhancement of road infrastructure in Akwa Ibom State are of paramount importance and cannot be overstated.

Akwa Ibom State is rated as the second best in Nigeria, after the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, in terms of the quality of its road networks.

The Governor envisions a continued commitment to advancing and improving road construction within the State, thereby ensuring that it retains its rating status and providing compelling reasons for both tourists and investors to engage with Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Umo Eno knows that a robust infrastructure network is crucial for attracting investments, boosting tourism, and ultimately improving the quality of life for residents.

The ongoing and planned road projects are not merely about constructing physical pathways; they represent a strategic initiative aimed at expanding sustainable growth, reducing transportation costs, and ensuring that all communities within the state are interconnected and accessible.

Thus, the concerted efforts of Governor Umo Eno in advancing these infrastructural developments are imperative for the overall progress and prosperity of Akwa Ibom State.

As Governor Umo Eno’s administration approaches the significant milestone of two years in office, it is poised to unveil a series of completed road infrastructure projects that underscore its substantial investment in both rural and urban development.

The administration’s commitment to enhancing infrastructural frameworks has been nothing short of exceptional, with a focus on improving connectivity and accessibility across the state.

Notably, approximately ten road projects are slated for commissioning, including the pivotal 14.5-kilometer Airport Road-Nsit Atai Road. This vital thoroughfare serves as a crucial link between the capital city of Uyo and Oron federal constituency, effectively opening up new avenues for economic and social interaction.

The dualized superhighway, which has previously been marred by the underperformance of three different contracting firms, has seen a transformative turnaround under the stewardship of Henzek Integrated Services.

This prudent company, recognized for its high-quality civil engineering services and expedited project delivery, took over the project approximately one year ago. Their adherence to contractual timelines and meticulous implementation of construction specifications has been commendable on the project .

Another significant project nearing completion is the 3.1-kilometer Odot-Ikot Ubo road, which connects Nsit Atai and Nsit Ubium local government areas.

This project is being executed by the reputable construction firm Setraco Nigeria, further exemplifying the administration’s dedication to partnering with established firms to ensure quality outcomes.

Moreso, the 15.13-kilometer Ikot Esu-Otomo-Zumini Road in Ika Local Government Area serves as a major artery connecting Rivers and Abia States to Akwa Ibom State .

This essential route has been a key passage for travelers entering Akwa Ibom from neighboring states and is set to be commissioned during the second anniversary celebrations.

In Ikot Ekoene Local Government Area, the construction of a 6.475-kilometer road in Amayam Community, which provides access to the Comprehensive Health Centre, is progressing rapidly and is expected to be ready for commissioning by the May 29 celebrations.

Furthermore, the construction of 9.76 kilometers of ancillary roads, including a 60-meter bridge and an additional 2.3 kilometers of roadway connecting Nsit Ubium local government areas by East west Road , is advancing swiftly. While this project may not be fully completed by the second anniversary, it is anticipated to be commissioned within a few months thereafter.

In Nsit Ubium, a total 8.10 kilometers of internal road construction is currently underway at various stages of completion. Notably, the dualized 2.1 km Ikot Ekpene Udo-Ikot Ekpan Road and the dualized 3.2 km Ene Akpan Amok-Nduon Road, which includes a 120-meter span bridge, are set to be commissioned around September 2025.

In an evidentiary proof to his commitment to infrastructure development, Governor Umo Eno has vowed to see through the completion of the 18.97-kilometer Abak 10-Ibiakpan-Abbiakpo Otoro-Manta Road in Abak local government area, a project that many had presumed abandoned.

With current completion rates approaching 85%, the ongoing work by the contracting firm indicates that this road will soon be finalized.

The 11-kilometer Idoro Road, which connects Pepsi Junction to Okpum Abak-Hospital Road in Abak local government area, a link road to Uyo has been completed and is set for commissioning during the upcoming anniversary celebration.

Moreover, over 13 kilometers of direct labor projects in Uyo, Eket, and Oron metropolises, ranging from 1 kilometer to 3.2 kilometers, will also be inaugurated, further showcasing the administration’s extensive efforts in road infrastructure.

Governor Umo Eno, PhD, showcases a leadership philosophy that prioritizes road infrastructural development as a cornerstone of broader developmental initiatives.

He recognizes that the enhancement of road networks catalyzes business growth, elevates property values, stimulates urbanization, improves market accessibility, and reduces transportation costs.

Through these strategic investments, the Umo Eno administration is laying the groundwork for a more prosperous and interconnected future for all citizens of Akwa Ibom State.

Akwa Ibom Governor Pledges Commitment To Tourism, Blue Economy Development

Akwa Ibom governor pledges commitment to tourism, blue economy development… commends Editi Effiong for projecting State’s tourism potentials

As part of his effort to encourage tourism and enhance the State’s blue economy, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to encourage and reward young professionals who are willing to collaborate with his administration in promoting the positive image of the State through the ARISE Agenda.

The Governor made this known while fielding questions from Government House correspondents shortly after embarking on inspection of a locale of a movie, “The Black Book 2” (Old Scores), at Ishiet Beach/Market in Uruan Local Government Area.

He commended the movie Producer and Director, Mr. Editi Effiong, for his talent, vision, inspiration, and creative ability to project the tourism potentials and boost the economy of the State.

Governor Eno charged young Akwa Ibomites to shun divisive tendencies, be inspired, and emulate the creative effort of successful Akwa Ibom sons and daughters by joining hands to develop the tourism and blue economy of the State.

“The impression is amazing, seeing that we have one of our own trying to pull the world down here.

“I would love to thank and encourage him, and to let our young people see that Akwa Ibom has what it takes to drag the world’s attention.

“It depends on what you see. Someone can see this place and write one story about a swamp that has been abandoned and make all the noise. Another person sees this place and makes a great movie out of it that will market this place to the world and is able to attract the attention because of the work he has done here,” he said.

The State Chief Executive pledged his encouragement, support, and collaboration with Editi and other young Akwa Ibomites to enable them rise to the zenith of their calling.

“We are going to work with him. Editi is a young man I have known very well. This is one thing I say to our people in the diaspora, let’s partner. Come back home, whatever you see out there, bring it back here, and let’s work together.

“I think that is the story, and I am really impressed. If you know the number of people that have visited this State in the course of this film, the talents, and the caliber of artists that have been here, then this young man deserves an award and our support,” he added.

BREAKING: International Flight Operation – A New Dawn For Akwa Ibom

BREAKING: International flight operation – a new dawn for Akwa Ibom. On a bright Friday morning, a chartered plane descends smoothly onto the runway of Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo. For the first time in years, the airport, upgraded to international standards, welcomes travellers from abroad directly, without the need for cumbersome stop overs. As the passengers step out, they are greeted by warm sunshine, gentle coastal breezes and the promise of adventure in a land long admired but rarely visited.
Among them is Anna, a tourist from Europe curious about Nigeria’s lesser known treasures. She has booked a flight because she read about Akwa Ibom’s serene beaches, rich culture, and vibrant hospitality scene. With her suitcase in hand and camera ready, she hails a cab to the coast, to a place called Ibeno Beach, reputed to be the longest stretch of natural sandy beach in the country.

Elsewhere, a business traveller couple from Asia arrives at night, thanks to the recently restored night flight capability of the airport. The lights of Uyo’s cityscape welcome them. Their plan is not merely tourism. They come to explore opportunities in real estate, hospitality investments and marine port projects, drawn by Akwa Ibom’s emerging infrastructure and connectivity.

Discovering Hidden Treasures, Tourism Blossoms

With the ease of direct access, people like Anna are no longer daunted by complicated travel itineraries. They can touch down in Uyo and in a few hours find themselves sunbathing on Ibeno Beach, exploring mangrove lined creeks, savouring local cuisine, and attending cultural events.

Local hotels and resorts, some recently built, others simply refurbished, begin to fill up. Tour operators, boat ride operators, souvenir craftsmen, local guides and transport drivers see a sudden surge in demand. Families book weekend getaways. Young couples go for romantic beach walks. International guests craving unique tropical culture find themselves drawn to the forested hills, water side villages, and warm hospitality of the people.

Small businesses flourish. The souvenir making artisans produce hand woven crafts, traditional garments and artworks. Restaurants serve local dishes to foreigners curious about Nigerian coastal cuisine. Tour guides offer boat rides, ecotourism treks, historical site tours and even visits to old missionary sites and cultural villages.

From Tourism to Revenue, Jobs and Infrastructure

The inflow of travellers brings tangible income. Payment for airport services, landing fees, tourism taxes, hotel fees, tour operator commissions, local transport fares, dining and souvenirs. The government begins to record increased revenue from airport operations and tourism related levies.

At the same time, businesses spring up to meet the rising demand. New hotels, resorts, restaurants and tour agencies. This creates jobs for hotel staff, cooks, guides, drivers, artisans, maintenance staff, security personnel and many others. Local youth find employment in hospitality and related services.

Investors, seeing the rising interest and improved connectivity, start funding larger infrastructure projects. Roads to beach areas are improved. Leisure facilities, resorts, waterfront promenades and small marinas are built. With increased financial inflows, the state government reinvests into public infrastructure. Roads, electricity, waste management and beautification receive attention.

Having a modern internationally connected airport also strengthens Akwa Ibom’s appeal for trade and logistics. With proposed harbour or deep sea port developments on the horizon, the state is gradually transforming into an integrated logistics and tourism hub.

A Story of Renewal and Possibility

By opening its skies, Akwa Ibom changes from a hard to reach but beautiful coast to a must visit destination with easy access. People like Anna now tell their friends about their unforgettable beach holiday. Business minded visitors arrive to explore investment opportunities. Local entrepreneurs seize new markets.

The result is more jobs, improved livelihoods, rising incomes and increasing state revenue. The revenue helps fund roads, public utilities, coastal development and improvements to public facilities. Over time, the state becomes more prosperous and more vibrant, tourism and commerce leading to real, visible transformation.

Why This Matters. Beyond the Story

Analysis shows that airport infrastructure, such as direct international flights, is strongly correlated with socio economic growth, increased tourism, employment and income generation.

With the recent approval for international operations at Victor Attah International Airport, the capacity to bring in foreign visitors without major transit delays is now achievable.

The resetting of night flight operations adds flexibility to travel schedules, boosting the attractiveness for both leisure and business travellers.
