Umo Eno Government Pledges Commitment To Actualize Ibom Deep Seaport

Umo Eno government pledges commitment to actualize Ibom deep seaport. Ibom Deep Seaport: special duties commissioner, technical Committee on implementation pledges renewed commitment to actualization.

In furtherance of Governor Umo Eno’s promise to actualise the Ibom Deep Seaport project, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Comrade Ini Ememobong and the Chairman, Technical Committee on the Implementation of Ibom Deep Seaport, Mrs Mfon Usoro, have pledged a renewed commitment to deliver on the governor’s promise.

This was disclosed on Thursday, February 6, when Comrade Ememobong paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Technical Committee, at the Project Office of the Committee in Uyo.

In her remarks, Mrs Usoro commended the Commissioner for not only taking interest in the project, but also swinging into action immediately after his appointment, adding that the gesture was an indication of the state government’s renewed commitment to actualising the project.

Giving update on the progress recorded so far on the project, Mrs Usoro disclosed that the master-plan for the Ibom Industrial City has been approved, adding that the Committee’s role has been to provide the brain work while the implementation would be handled by the Ministry.

“It’s a twin project; the Ibom Industrial City and Ibom Deep Seaport. The Deep Seaport is situated in the Industrial City and the two projects were supposed to go together because the industries that are supposed to be located in the industrial city actually fit into the port.

“For the Ibom Industrial City, we have completed our work in the sense that the master plan has been approved. The detailed infrastructural design had been produced and approved; the location of the power plant, water dissemination plant, and all the utilities including the drawings for the drainage, the roads – secondary roads and the connecting ones.

“As an implementation committee, we have been dedicated to ensuring that the project is actualised so that the people of that constituency will see that the government is sincere about developing the area,” she said.

The Chairman of the Implementation Committee further disclosed that with designs for the sales office and city gate completed and approved, the project was ready for the next phase which will be to market the project to investors.

In his response, Comrade Ememobong appreciated the Chairman and the committee for the job done so far in actualising the project, assuring of the Ministry’s full commitment to actualising the project.

“His Excellency has mandated me to work fully with you. It is a task I am excited about because even from the Ministry’s end, there is a lot for us to learn. This is an opportunity to develop local expertise and to retain same here.

One of the key things we will also be discussing will be how we can develop high level, mid-level and low level expertise for our people.

While emphasising the need to develop local expertise in other to position Akwa Ibom people for the opportunities that will be available in the Deep Seaport as well as working to actualise the project, Comrade Ememobong reassured that the collaboration will ensure critical issues like community relations among others are resolved.

“If there is one project that the entire Akwa Ibom people want to see come to reality, it is the Deep Seaport, because they understand how important the project is to the state. So, I commit to you that the Ministry is available for you. Everything you need from our end will be available.

He thanked Governor Umo Eno for entrusting them with the task of ensuring that the project is actualised, assuring Akwa Ibom people that both parties will work tirelessly to make their dreams of the Deep Seaport come true.

Recall that during the Exco Inter-Ministerial Briefing and End-of-Year Review last December, Governor Eno had promised that the Ibom Deep Seaport project will be a priority of the administration in 2025, saying “Ibom Deep Seaport is back on the front burner and we have timelines for each sub-project of the Seaport”.

Akwa Ibom Governor Eno Commends Quality Job Delivery By Contractors At Project Sites

Governor Umo Eno has expressed satisfaction with the quality and timely delivery of jobs by contractors at different project sites in the State.

Fielding questions from Government House Correspondents shortly after his inspection of the projects, Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment towards ensuring that projects are properly monitored and appropriately funded in line with the contract agreement.

He explained that the routine on-the spot inspection avails him the opportunity to carry out critical assessment of key projects, monitor project timeliness, staff welfare, pace and quality of job execution and funding approvals.

“Mine is to make sure that the work is going on, we get our money’s worth, ensure contractors are on site and that they are doing what they are supposed to do.

“This inspection, for me, is to give me an on-the spot assessment, monitor our time lines. Everywhere I went to, I can tell you that I am satisfied at the pace of work, and the quality of work done,” he stated.

The Governor thanked the contractors for their commitment to their jobs, and urged them to keep to timelines and specifications while prioritizing the safety and welfare of staff.

“I belief that the contractors know that we will demand that they do the work according to our specification.

“I am not just checking the work, I also check the staff, to ensure that everything is going on well. So when I get an IPC on my desk, I know exactly what that payment voucher is addressing. All of these works you see me inspect today, I have payment vouchers waiting for me to sign off.

“So, I have to come to see and be sure that they have reached certain levels before we can make the next set of payments.”

Senator Aniekan Bassey Advances Rural Infrastructure, Economic Opportunities In Akwa Ibom Community

Rural infrastructure. Esuk Odu Beach has historically served as a vital fishing settlement and trading hub for coastal communities in Uruan. Over the years, it has remained a center for the exchange of dried fish, palm oil, and indigenous crafts, sustaining livelihoods across the region.

Despite its calm waters and scenic appeal, qualities that position it as a promising leisure and tourism destination, the area’s economic potential remained largely underutilized due to prolonged infrastructural deficits.

This trajectory is now being transformed through the ongoing construction of the 3.96km Adadia–Ekim Enen–Esuk Odu Beach Road, a project facilitated by Senator Aniekan Bassey in alignment with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda on infrastructure development.

Upon completion, the road will establish a direct and dependable transport corridor, significantly reducing travel time and logistics costs for farmers, fishermen, and residents of Uruan and adjoining communities. By linking inland agricultural zones with Issiet Market and extending to Esuk Odu’s coastal trade routes, the project will enhance the efficient movement of goods and services.

Improved accessibility is expected to stimulate growth across key sectors, including fisheries, aquaculture, sand mining, and small-scale tourism. It will enable farmers to transport perishable produce more efficiently, minimize post-harvest losses, and provide traders with a safer, more reliable supply chain. Furthermore, the improved infrastructure is likely to attract private sector investment in hospitality, recreation, and related services, thereby generating employment and boosting local economic activity.

Residents, including farmers and fishermen, have expressed deep appreciation to Senator Aniekan Bassey for facilitating the project, describing it as a long-awaited solution to persistent mobility challenges. Beyond improved access, they view the road as a symbol of renewed economic prospects and inclusive development.
