Tinubu Government Inaugurates N40bn CCTV Centre On Third Mainland Bridge
Tinubu government inaugurates N40bn CCTV centre on third mainland bridge. Mr Umahi expressed worry at speeding by motorists on the bridge, urging adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
The Federal Government on Sunday inaugurated the N40 billion Close Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) Centre of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.
The CCTV centre was built by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
Inaugurating the centre, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, said that the current administration met a ‘very terrible Third Mainland Bridge.’
He said, ”When we came on board in 2023, we met a very terrible Third Mainland Bridge, Carter Bridge and Eko Bridge both on the pavement, surface, infrastructure above the water and even infrastructure below the water.
”The president, therefore, directed total re-evaluation and rehabilitation of the surfaces of the Third mainland Bridge and changing the expansion joints.
”Lagosians were very happy with the President for that beautiful work, and that work completed and commissioned is still succeeding because of the quality.”

He thanked the CCECC for a job well done. He said the ministry would be handing over a boat and two Hilux vans, which were part of the contract, to the police for monitoring of the bridge.
“If they need to incorporate other security agencies, they can do that, but the idea of this project is that we have a lay-by on the bridge, so we view everything going on on this bridge.”
Mr Umahi expressed worry at speeding by motorists on the bridge, urging adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
Earlier, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olufemi Dare, said that the centre was the first of its kind in Nigeria.
He said, ”I doubt if there is any bridge in Nigeria that has what we have deployed here today, where you have CCTV to monitor both the underwater and even the bridge itself. We have a boat that has been bought for surveillance of the bridge. There are two Hilux vans, too.
“We have 240 solar panels in this environment, and that is not enough. The whole place is fully air-conditioned. We have 10 inverters inside the building.

”We have the powering units. We have a transformer, a 300KVA transformer. We have a standby generating plant and monitoring screens.”
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the provision and thanked Mr Umahi for ensuring that due process was followed in establishing the centre.
”We have about 1268 solar street lights that are part of this contract,” he said.
He added that a bore was part of the project.
Mr Dare said that the project’s contract was N40.17 billion.
He said that the Federal Government had paid N36 billion to the contractor handling the project.
Mr Dare stated, “This is the first level commissioning. We are still going to come back here to do even for the extension of the bridge which is about to be completed. We pray that very sooner than later, we will come back to do a full-blown commissioning.”
Tinubu Government Unveils Guards to Protect Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
The Federal Government has launched the Coastal Highway Guards to protect the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway from vandalism and other unauthorised activities.

The Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, Jubril Gawat, disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday.
According to Gawat, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, launched the initiative with an initial 40 officers.
He wrote, “The Honorable Minister of Works, Senator @realdaveumahi, today launched the COASTAL HIGHWAY GUARDS, starting with 40 officers. These personnel will be in charge of:
“Maintaining presence on the highway; reporting suspicious activities; restricting hawking on the Coastal Highway;
“Reporting and monitoring any form of vandalism; restricting keke or okada on the Coastal Highway; and restricting loitering on the Coastal Highway.”
Gawat said the team would be led by retired Gen. Adekunle Shodunke and would work with security agencies in the state.
He quoted Umahi as saying the initiative was not an empowerment programme but a full-time job aimed at protecting government assets.
“The Hon. Minister says this is not an ‘empowerment program’, It is a full time job to protect National Assets of the Government and in line with the Renewed Hope of Mr President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR,” Gawat said.

Earlier on Sunday, Umahi expressed concern over activities along sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, particularly the removal of construction materials and illegal occupation of the highway.
“We have had very terrible, unpatriotic elements removing the blocks, breaking the fence, removing the rods and treading on the highway. This must stop,” Umahi said.
He directed the Works Controller in Lagos to ensure that motorcycles, tricycles, hawkers and other unauthorised activities were kept off the coastal highway.
“Their job is that no keke on the coastal highway, no motorcycle on the coastal highway, and no loitering. There is no superhighway all over the country where you see people loitering,” he said.
“Last night, we were there with the National Assembly members by 11 pm; people were sleeping on the coastal highway. It must stop. No hawking, no occupation illegally along the entire coast.”
Umahi also called on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to strengthen its protection of strategic national infrastructure.

He disclosed that the ministry had opened its ongoing projects to scrutiny by anti-corruption agencies.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a 750-kilometre, 10-lane highway being developed to connect Lagos to Cross River, passing through Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.
The project is being undertaken by Hitech Construction Company Limited under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works.

Financial Literacy: NNPC Foundation Holds Programme for Batch B, Stream 2 NYSC Members
In furtherance of its intervention towards helping the Nigerian youth build practical skills needed in financial management and investment, the NNPC Foundation, NNPC Limited’s social arm, will hold its Financial Literacy Programme for Batch B, Stream 2 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), as follows:
Date: Sunday, 9 August 2026
Venue: NYSC Orientation Camp, Kubwa, FCT, Abuja.
The Financial Literacy Programme commenced in August 2023, in collaboration with the NYSC, with Kudimata Nig. Limited serving as consultant for the NNPC Foundation. It currently runs across all 37 NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide.
But the programme goes beyond learning about money and making wise investment decisions.
Corps members who score 70 per cent and above in the online assessment move on to the Kick-Start My Business stage and, subsequently, the Business Pitching stage. Successful corps members receive starter packs and grants to help them take their business ideas from paper to reality.
The support also includes business registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), for which the NNPC Foundation has secured a 45 per cent discount on registration fees.
So far, more than 1.3 million corps members have benefited from the Financial Literacy Programme, while 531 successful participants received grants and starter packs in May 2025.

NYSC Releases 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II call-up Letters for Corps Members Posted to Niger, Sokoto
The National Youth Service Corps has released the deployment for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II for Niger and Sokoto states.

According to an announcement shared on NYSC X handle on Sunday, prospective corps members posted to Niger and Sokoto states can now print their call-up letters.
The announcement read, “2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Deployment has been released for Niger and Sokoto States.
“PCMs posted to these states have been enabled to print their Call-Up Letters.”
The development comes after the NYSC extended the commencement date of the orientation course in the two states due to ongoing renovation works at the orientation camps.
Following the extension, the Corps announced that the orientation course for the states would commence on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The cut-off and swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 14, while the closing ceremony is fixed for Tuesday, September 1.
The corps had attributed the extension to ongoing renovation works at the orientation camps by the respective state governments.

It also advised prospective corps members posted to the two states to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid travelling at night.
