Police Command Honours CSP Ebong Thompson At Award Night For Bravery

Police command honours CSP Ebong Thompson at award night for bravery. Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Police Force yesterday held its Annual Dinner and Award Night, celebrating distinguished officers for their extraordinary service.

Among the most highly celebrated was Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ebong Thompson, Commander of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, whose gallantry, leadership, and operational excellence continue to inspire both colleagues and citizens.

CSP Thompson was specially honoured for his unwavering dedication to public safety and his unmatched courage in the line of duty. His track record speaks volumes.

In June 2024 CSP Thompson personally led an operation that intercepted and foiled the kidnapping of Pastor Anthony Akpan, a retired Director in the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service and proprietor of Goshen Schools, Obio Etoi.

In a high-risk encounter, he confronted and neutralized the kidnappers, successfully rescuing the victim unhurt.

In another daring operation, CSP Thompson led the charge that neutralized the dreaded kidnapper and sea pirate known as CONDIMENT, a criminal mastermind responsible for a string of high-profile abductions and murders in the state.

This included the gruesome killing of Justice Joy Umana’s police orderly and the murder of the CEO of Emem Farms. The operation also led to the recovery of six sophisticated firearms hidden in a mortuary.

In a mission that exemplifies bravery, CSP Thompson and his men stormed a dense forest in Abak engaging heavily armed criminals in a fierce gun battle.

The operation resulted in the successful rescue of Barrister Emmanuel Ubengama and his cousin, a Director in the Ministry of Justice, Akwa Ibom State.

The victims had been held in an abandoned soakaway pit, with little hope for survival.

These feats—and many others—demonstrate not only the technical expertise of CSP Thompson but his unwavering resolve to protect the people of Akwa Ibom, often at great personal risk.

The Commissioner of Police, while presenting the award, described CSP Thompson as a “Global Cop” who is always available to solve any crime.

As the crowd rose in a standing ovation, it was clear that CSP Ebong Thompson is not just a police officer—he is a symbol of courage, service, and hope.
