Olukoyede Assures Female Officers Of Enhanced Welfare: Int’l Women’s Day

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, expressed his resolve to take extra measures in ensuring that female officers of the Commission are encouraged, empowered and their welfare needs adequately met to discharge their duties.

He gave the assurance at a seminar organised at the Commission’s Headquarters to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2026.

He noted that while the EFCC prioritized the health, safety and well-being of all officers, the Commission takes extra measures to ensure that female officers are emotionally and physically stable to discharge the responsibilities.

“This consideration led to the establishment of a crèche in our offices to reduce the stress of infant care for our nursing mothers. The need to enhance the dignity of our female staff was key for developing policies aimed at protecting them from any form of abuse or harassment,” he said.

Further in this direction, the EFCC boss disclosed that the Commission has activated the Sexual Harassment and Bullying Policy and determined to enforce it to the letter. While commending the Commission’s female officers for their resilience and dedication to service, he assured them that the management will continue to treat their welfare as a priority and make the environment conducive and supportive for them, so long as they give their utmost to the Commission.

“We will not relent in making the work environment more conducive and supportive for everyone. I also encourage our female staff to continue upholding the value and standards that define the Commission. I want to charge every one of you to seek better ways of adding value to the Commission through diligence, enhanced productivity, punctuality, self-development and loyalty to the mandate of the EFCC,” he said.

While praising women for being mothers, caregivers, innovators, policy, decision and change makers, Acting Director, EFCC’s Staff Welfare Services, Deputy Director of the EFCC, DCE Felicia Timothy added that “Each one of us here has a unique story that contributes to a larger narrative of strength and resilience of women.”

Speaking further, she thanked Olukoyede for putting women in leadership positions in the Commission, which she noted has brought huge empowerment to EFCC female officers. “We thank the Chairman who has given women leadership positions beyond their expectations and this gives women the chance to step into other roles. As we embark on this journey, let us not forget the importance of unity, community support and shared experiences that inspire us to prioritize our health, foster resilience and empower ourselves. Remember, empowering a woman means empowering the nation,” she said.

Three lectures were delivered at the occasion, which included “Prioritizing Female Staff Health while Serving the Nation,” delivered by Dr Motunrayo Oyelohuno, a Medical Psychiatrist; “Creating Balance in a High Pressure World,” delivered by Dr. Toyin Ogunkanmi, a Clinical psychologist, while Dr Nana Khadijah Iya delivered a paper on “Building a Culture of Support and Excellence at the Workplace.”

Pensioners Threaten Nationwide Protest, Demand Governors Urgently Review Payment

The National Association of Retirees of State Governments has threatened a nationwide protest unless state governors urgently review pension payments in line with existing labour laws.

Simon Anchaver, president of the union, made the call in Yenagoa at the inauguration of the Bayelsa interim executive of the newly registered union.

The union demanded that the 36 state governors prioritise pension payments.

They equally called on President Bola Tinubu to establish a ministry for pension affairs to guarantee annual budgetary allocations for pensioners’ welfare.

Its national secretary, Bipre Ndiomu, said the union was newly registered and currently inaugurating state executives. He urged state governors to put in place the modalities to guarantee the welfare of pensioners across the country.
