NAF Special Forces Advance Operational Readiness Through Intelligence Training To Neutralise Threats, Protect Civilians

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) continues to advance operational readiness through specialized intelligence and security training designed to strengthen the capabilities of its special forces personnel in combating emerging security threats and protecting civilian lives.

In line with this effort, the Regiment Training Centre Annex (RTCA) Bauchi conducted a comprehensive training package on Intelligence and Security in Special Forces Operations for trainees of Special Forces Course 13/2026. The training focused on enhancing operational awareness, intelligence application and mission effectiveness within contemporary operational environments characterized by asymmetric threats, insurgency and terrorism.

Speaking during the engagement, the Commandant of RTCA Bauchi, Squadron Leader Lawrence Akpan, underscored the critical role of intelligence in the success of special operations, noting that effective intelligence supports mission planning, threat assessment, surveillance, target identification and force protection.

He emphasized that every special forces operator must possess sound knowledge of intelligence processes, operational security and information management to effectively execute assigned tasks.

In his lecture, the Command Intelligence Officer at Headquarters Special Operations Command, Squadron Leader E Miji, exposed the trainees to key areas of intelligence operations, including intelligence gathering techniques, surveillance and reconnaissance, counterintelligence, information analysis and operational threat assessment.

As part of the training, the participants engaged in practical exercises and simulated operational scenarios designed to test their analytical thinking, situational awareness and decision-making abilities under pressure.

Mr Otti said this on Sunday in Umuahia during an interdenominational thanksgiving service organised by the Abia government to commemorate his third anniversary in office.

“We started by taking the state to God in prayers and rededicated the state immediately after we were sworn in. Another vow we made is the one we are about to fulfil,” he said.

Mr Otti said that thanksgiving and worship remained a personal conviction for him and his family, adding that giving glory to God is necessary for the successes recorded by the administration.

Mr Otti announced plans to build a privately funded ecumenical centre in Umuahia. He said that he had already provided the land, which he acquired in 2009, long before he became governor, for the project.

“It was a terrible attack. I stayed very close to the palace and heard gunshots echo for several hours. As it is now, over ten people close to the emir were taken to an unknown location,” a resident, who did not want his name published because of security risks, told The Gazette.

During the attack, a police divisional headquarters and the emir’s palace were invaded, but the terrorists were reportedly repelled after several hours of a gun duel.

“The armed criminals, in a coordinated and desperate assault at about 0200hrs, simultaneously attacked the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the Palace of the Emir of Yashikira,” police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said in a statement on Monday.
