Obi Vows for Transparency, not to Spend Vacation Abroad if Elected in 2027
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has vowed not to spend his holidays outside Nigeria if elected President in the 2027 general elections.

Obi made the pledge in his Independence Day address delivered in Abuja on Thursday, saying he would use his four-year tenure to travel across the country, interact with Nigerians and better understand their challenges.
He said, “As I have always done, I will lead by example. In four years as President of this great nation, I will not spend my holidays outside Nigeria. My holidays will be spent in Zamfara State; Borno State; Kwara State; Ebonyi State; Edo State; Ekiti State and other Nigerian States.
“I want to continue to see Nigeria. I want to know Nigeria. I want to spend time with Nigerians, listen to them, understand their challenges and celebrate their resilience.”
The former Anambra governor also promised that his administration would make governance measurable and accountable, with emphasis on the welfare and productivity of Nigerians.
“As President of Nigeria, I will make governance measurable, accountable and centred on the welfare and productivity of our people. Within the first year, Nigerians will begin to see the tangible impact of purposeful and effective leadership,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor pledged to tackle insecurity, saying farmers would be able to return to their farms while children would return to school and businesses would operate without fear.
He said, “We will confront insecurity decisively so that our farmers can return to their farms, our children can return to school, businesses can operate freely, and families can live without fear.
“No Nigerian should be forced to live in an IDP camp because his or her government has failed to provide security.”
Obi, who said Independence anniversaries should provide opportunities for national reflection, criticised the APC-led administration, arguing that the country had continued to face serious challenges despite the promises made in 2023.
He said Nigeria was grappling with widespread poverty, a large population of out-of-school children and persistent insecurity caused by terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
“Despite the enormous promises made by the APC-led government in 2023, our nation continues to face deepening challenges across virtually every critical sector of national life,” he said.
The NDC presidential candidate also recounted his recent visit to Sokoto State with his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, where they held consultations on insecurity, poverty, unemployment, drug abuse and out-of-school children.
He said their visit to an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Ramin Kura, within Sokoto metropolis, exposed the hardship faced by thousands of displaced women and children.
“Instead, they live as displaced persons in their own country. What we saw in Ramin Kura is not an isolated story. It is a reflection of the suffering experienced, in different forms, across many parts of Nigeria.
“And yet, while ordinary Nigerians struggle with these realities, this present government often behaves as though these problems belong to another country.
“The political leaders have failed our country and, most importantly, we have failed our children. This must change,” Obi said.
The pledge comes one month after Obi criticised the practice of past and current presidents spending their holidays abroad, saying an elected president should remain in the country and use such periods to engage directly with citizens.
The former Anambra governor said he would mandate domestic vacations for the President if elected, arguing that the country’s leader should use the opportunity to visit areas facing serious security and developmental challenges.
“Nigeria’s President must spend his vacation in Nigeria. We cannot continue with this nonsense. Where do other countries’ own send their vacation?” Obi questioned.

Peter Obip
“The President should go to Zamfara, to Borno, to Anambra, to anywhere. As President of Nigeria, I will visit other countries, but I will not take my holidays there”.
When asked about the security implications of spending vacation time in states affected by insurgency and banditry, particularly Borno, Obi maintained that the President should not use security concerns as a reason to leave Nigeria during holidays.
He also drew a comparison with political leaders in other countries, arguing that the conduct of a Nigerian president should similarly reflect a strong connection with the country and its people.

Wike Promises Abuja Residents Road Projects as Tinubu’s Christmas Gift
Wike Promises Abuja Residents Road Projects as Tinubu’s Christmas Gift
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has promised to deliver ongoing road projects in Abuja by December, describing them as a Christmas gift from President Bola Tinubu to residents.

Wike made the promise in Abuja on Tuesday after inspecting ongoing construction works on Arterial Road NI, from Wuye to Ring Road II; Tungan Madaki to Zuba Road; and Zaudna-Kaba-Kagini to the Kubwa Expressway.
This was disclosed in a statement posted on X by the minister’s aide, Lere Olayinka.
Speaking after assessing the pace and quality of the projects, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and commended the contractors for their commitment to meeting the completion timelines.
“I’m very impressed with the jobs so far, and I’m also impressed with the commitment of the contractors.
“We have promised the residents that this will be their Christmas gift by Mr President as part of their Christmas gift so that they’ll go back home and enjoy their Christmas celebration.
“You can imagine the happiness of those who stay here. You know that with these roads the economy of the affected communities will change,” he said.
Wike said the completion of the roads would ease transportation difficulties and boost economic activities in the affected communities.
“When you see a rural area like this, it makes us very happy when the people are happy and of course, that’s the essence of good governance,” Wike added.
The minister acknowledged that rainfall had slowed some earthworks but expressed confidence that the contractors would accelerate construction as the rainy season subsided.
“I believe that from the first week of October, the rains will not be much again, and you will see how they will continue with earthworks,” he said.
Wike also urged residents to support Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election and back former FCT minister, Philip Aduda, for the Senate.
Addressing residents of Tungan Shanu village along the Tungan Madaki to Zuba Road corridor, Wike said, “We will push the contractor to deliver the road by December so that you’ll be happy. That is what the President is doing for you.
“The president said this road will be a Christmas gift for all of you. So, when the election comes too, don’t forget to vote for Tinubu and Aduda,” he said.
Speaking to residents of Kaba along the Kagini to Kubwa Expressway corridor, the minister said, “I’m happy that you people are happy that this road will be completed in December.

Wike
“I came here with the man that will represent you well in the Senate and that is Sen. Philip Aduda. He’s the one who will connect you directly with Tinubu.
“So, I hope all of you will vote for Tinubu and Aduda.”
Wike has repeatedly declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, while saying the Rainbow Coalition he supports is focused on mobilising support for the President.

Benue APC Group Warns Against Division, Backs Alia, Tinubu Ahead of 2027
Benue APC Group Warns Against Division, Backs Alia, Tinubu Ahead of 2027
Concerned stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State have declared support for the re-election of Governor Hyacinth Alia and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
The stakeholders, under the aegis of Concerned Benue APC Stakeholders and Strategic Alliance, made their position known during a world press conference addressed by the group’s Convener, Dr Dominic Alancha.
Alancha called on APC members to prioritise the overall interest of the party, Benue State and its members above individual interests, disagreements or political camps.
He said the APC was bigger than any individual, leader, aspirant or political group, stressing that internal disagreements should be addressed through the recognised organs and mechanisms of the party.
According to him, he had previously opposed Governor Alia’s bid for re-election but subsequently changed his position after reassessing what he described as the larger interest of the party.
Alancha urged members with grievances against the governor or party leadership to pursue such concerns through established internal channels rather than engaging in activities capable of weakening the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
He added that where there was credible evidence of violations of the party’s constitution or rules, the appropriate authorities should take necessary action in line with due process, regardless of the status of the individuals involved.
The APC stakeholders also expressed support for the Alia administration, saying, in their assessment, its record in office provides a basis for the governor to seek another term.
The group equally declared its commitment to mobilising support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Alancha appealed to APC elders, leaders and members across Benue State to close ranks and resolve their differences through dialogue and the appropriate party structures.
He further urged the party leadership to uphold the supremacy of the APC constitution and ensure that disciplinary measures, where necessary, are applied fairly and in accordance with established procedures.
The group also called on Governor Alia to remain focused on governance and the implementation of his administration’s programmes, while urging party members to intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
It appealed to members associated with different political camps to embrace reconciliation and work towards strengthening the party across the state.
The stakeholders subsequently announced plans to mobilise across local government areas, wards and communities in support of the APC and the re-election bids of Governor Alia and President Tinubu.
Alancha said the group’s position was that the APC, Benue State and the collective interest of its members should remain central to the party’s activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
