NPF Mourns Fallen Officer, Assures Full Investigation Into Fatal Road Traffic Incident In Imo

The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force mourns the tragic death of Inspector Habila Mangai, who lost his life in a fatal road traffic accident while on lawful stop-and-search duty along the Owerri–Okigwe Road in Imo State on 18th April, 2026.

The late Inspector, who was attached to the Isiala Mbano Division, was performing his duty at Amaraku when he was knocked down by a Mack truck driven by one Chisom Ajah. He was immediately evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he was confirmed dead by the attending medical personnel. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary.

The driver of the vehicle and the truck have been taken into custody and handed over to the State Motor Traffic Department (SMTD), Owerri, for detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, commiserates with the family, colleagues, and the Imo State Police Command over the painful loss, and assures that the sacrifice of the deceased will not be in vain.

The Nigeria Police Force assures the public that a thorough investigation has been instituted to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, and that justice will be duly served in accordance with the law.

The Force also urges motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, and maintain due care, particularly around police operational checkpoints and duty posts.

NUPRC Charged IPPG On Industry Standards, Human Capital Development

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has charged the Independent Petroleum Producers Group to uphold industry standards to strengthen human capital development.

NUPRC also urged the group to promote good corporate governance.

NUPRC’s chief executive, Oritsemeyewa Eyesan, said this during a courtesy visit by the IPPG chairman, Adegbite Falade, in Abuja, according to a statement on Tuesday.

Ms Eyesan described the IPPG as a significant force in the industry, particularly following the divestment of international oil companies. According to her, the commission values its relationship with the group.

She restated adherence to the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, underscoring the importance of human capital development and strong corporate governance.

Ms Eyesan reiterated the commission’s commitment to its mandate as a business enabler, assuring that it would remain responsive to industry needs in line with the aspirations of President Bola Tinubu.

NNPC Foundation Wins CSR Champion Award (Health)

NNPC Foundation Limited/Gte, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of NNPC Ltd. has won the CSR Champion Awar (Health) 2025 instituted by the Independent Newspapers. The award was presented during the Silver Jubilee edition of the Independent Newspapers Awards, themed “Game Changers: Breaking Barriers and Shaping Tomorrow,” held at Eko Hotel and Suites on Saturday, 18 April 2026.

The CSR Champion Award (Health) recognises the Foundation’s work in healthcare and its broader commitment to improving lives through social investment programmes spanning health, education, environment, and access to energy.

The recognition follows a series of health initiatives delivered by the Foundation, including free cataract screening and surgeries that restored sight to over 6,000 Nigerians, including minors born blind; cancer and glaucoma interventions; medical outreaches to underserved communities; renovation and furnishing of three wards with 100 beds at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi; partnership and sponsorship of heart surgeries; and provision of dental health accessories to children in special schools, among others.

The NNPC Foundation noted that these results were made possible through the leadership and support of the NNPC Ltd. Management team, whose commitment has continued to strengthen the Foundation’s capacity to deliver social investments across the country.

Reacting to the award, the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Emmanuella Arukwe, described the recognition as a validation of the Foundation’s work and the trust placed in it by Nigerians. She noted that the award means so much to the company because it represents the confidence Nigerians have placed in its work and the value they see in purposeful social investment.

“It speaks to the resilience of the communities we serve, the dedication of our team, and the strength of partnerships that have enabled us to do meaningful work in health, education, environmental sustainability and access to energy,” she added.

IGP Disu Closes PMF Squadron Commanders’ Training In End-Hills, Reaffirms Commitment To Capacity Building, Officer Welfare

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on 22nd April 2026, attended the closing ceremony of the Squadron Commanders’ Training Programme at the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Training College, Ende-Hills, Nasarawa State, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership capacity and operational effectiveness within the Nigeria Police Force.

During the visit, the IGP inspected key training facilities, including the simulation ground and shooting range, where he participated in tactical exercises, demonstrating leadership by example and reinforcing the importance of continuous, scenario-based training in modern policing.

Addressing cadets of the Nigeria Police Academy currently undergoing training at the College, the Inspector-General charged them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to the rigours of their training. He emphasized the importance of resilience, professionalism, and adherence to human rights principles, noting that the quality of their training will define their effectiveness and conduct in the field.
