FG Reaffirms Commitment To Inclusive Education, Child Development: Children’s Day

The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing inclusive, high-quality education for every Nigerian child, regardless of background or disability.

Education minister Tunji Alausa stated this in Abuja on Wednesday during the 2026 Children’s Day celebration organised by the Federal Ministry of Education.

‎The event featured children from different schools and backgrounds across the country and also hosted a young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe.

‎Mr Alausa described Children’s Day as an opportunity to celebrate the creativity, resilience and potential of Nigerian children while highlighting the need to continue investing in their education and well-being.

Mr Alausa said the celebration aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises child development, inclusive education, youth empowerment and improved access to quality learning opportunities.

‎“Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged and supported to achieve their dreams, regardless of background or circumstance,” he said.

‎The minister commended Ms Osadebe for promoting awareness and inclusion for children with disabilities, including those with autism. ‎According to him, her advocacy inspires conversations about empathy, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all children.

‎He urged children to believe in themselves, develop their talents and contribute positively to society.

‎“Children are at the heart of our nation’s future, and we must continue to create opportunities that allow them to learn, grow and succeed,” he said.

Governor Umo Eno Commissions Roads, Youth Development Centre, Health Centre

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned five life touching projects in Oron Local Government Area. And Oro Nation endorses Governor for second term in office.

The projects which include a Model Primary Health Centre; Youth Development Centre; 4.2 kilometre Effiong Esang and Ukpong Streets, alongside 800 metres of discharge drains; and a new administrative building at Oron Local Government Council headquarters, were described as people-centric and unprecedented.

Inaugurating the Model Primary Health Centre, Governor Eno charged the people of Oron to avail themselves of the accessibility, affordability, and high quality service of the health facility to improve on their health status.

He stated that the Youth Development Centre in Oron was the first to be completed, adding that similar centres would be replicated across the 31 Local Government Areas of the state. He also urged youths to take full advantage of the facilities in their respective areas for their personal development and the overall progress of the state.

The Governor said when completed in the 31 local government areas, a total of 31,000 youths will be trained annually in different skills, including ICT, fashion and design, catering, and others.

He said his administration created a stand alone Ministry of Youth Development, in order to prioritize the empowerment of youths in the State.

The Governor noted that the youth friendly centres, primary health centres and other facilities of government across the State are targeted at decentralizing development and reducing rural- urban migration.

Commissioning the 4.2km roads with 800 metre discharge drains, the Governor said the excitement was not really that the roads have been constructed but the fact that the suffering of the people occasioned by the devastating erosion and the deplorable vicinity has finally ended.

At the local government administrative block named after him, the Governor commended the Chairman of Oron Local Government Council, Hon. Okon Asukwo Enmewe, for his great sense of hard work, and commitment to service, and also commended all the local government chairmen in the State for their impactful leadership, and assured of continuous partnership for the development of the State.

Speaking during his endorsement by a group, Friends of Umo Eno in Oro Nation, held at Oron Township Stadium, Governor Eno appreciated the people for their trust, loyalty and solidarity, and for massively voting for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, himself and other candidates during the APC Primaries.

He assured them of continued commitment to more transformative initiatives in his second term.

Earlier in an overview of the primary health facility, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel John Ekem, disclosed that the facility was specially built to serve as a feeder to other primary health centres in Oro Nation, and enjoined the people of the area to secure and make quality use of the facility for their health needs.

At the Youth Development Centre, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerete Ekanem, commended the Governor for the significant investment in the facility, noting that it is designed to transform the economic prospects of youths across the State. He further described the centre in Oron as a comprehensive hub for youth economic empowerment and transformation.

At the new road project, the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, assured that the work done in the area has completely eliminated the erosion menace experienced over the years by the people, and specially thanked the Governor for his magnanimity.

In her remark at the endorsement rally, the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, acknowledged the Governor’s development strides in Oron in particular and in Oro Nation in general, and expressed her gratitude to the Governor for picking her, once again, as his running mate for the 2027 election.

Appreciating the people of Oro Nation for the endorsement rally and vote of confidence on her father, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, assured that the Governor will continue to serve the interest of the people, adding that the ARISE Agenda, which is set for a review, will continue to impact on them and the State as a whole.

In a motion moved and seconded by Hon. Esio Okwong Udo and Hon. Peter Linus Umoh respectively, and moderated by the member representing Oron Federal Constituency, Hon. Martins Esin, the people thanked the Governor for his exceptional love and commitment to transforming Oro Nation, and pledged their full support for him till 2031.

In their separate goodwill messages, Engr. Emmanuel Ekuwem; the Paramount Ruler of Oron, Odidem Bassey Etim Edet; Ikpoto Okon Osung; and Mrs. Alice Ekpenyong, praised the Governor for the people-oriented projects which they described as historic and heartwarming.
