Nigerians Battle Unexpected Cold In Fes Ahead Of AFCON: Morocco 2025
Nigerians Battle Unexpected Cold In Fes Ahead Of AFCON: Morocco 2025
Nigerians battle unexpected cold in Fes ahead of AFCON: Morocco 2025. “I thought it was an exaggeration,” a Nigerian man, who is in Fes to watch the Super Eagles, told Peoples Gazette.
For many Nigerians heading to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Fes is a must-visit, as the Super Eagles are scheduled to play all three group-stage matches there.
Fes is the oldest city in Morocco. It is also considered the country’s spiritual and cultural city. Despite Fes’ rich history, it is the extreme weather conditions that have quickly caught the attention of some Nigerian tourists already in Morocco.
On Friday night, the weather temperature dropped to four degrees centigrade but slightly got better on Saturday, rising to eight degrees, prompting Nigerians, who are not used to such low temperatures, to scramble for survival in Fes.
Some Nigerians, who had not anticipated the ‘extreme’ weather in a country like Morocco, immediately got a reality check upon landing at the airport, as they started reaching out to others still in Nigeria to arrange clothing for the conditions.
“I thought it was an exaggeration,” a Nigerian man, who is in Fes to watch the Super Eagles, told Peoples Gazette. “I thought Morocco was a very warm country, but this is surprising to me. I have told my friend coming on Monday to help me bring more hoodies and gloves to weather the conditions here.”
Justus Hanson, a member of the Football Fans Tribe, captured the conditions in Fes in a video showing the sports content creator covering himself with multiple duvets as his own way of surviving in the city.

Morocco 2025
“For Nigerian journalists and fans planning to come to Fes in Morocco, I know it seems like an exaggeration, but please prepare well. For context: Fes is currently 8 degrees, London is 6, and Texas is 13. It’s freezing out here, even inside the house,” Michael Adegbile, a photojournalist who arrived in the city on Saturday, posted on X.
Fes’ weather has definitely shaped the fashion sense of the city’s population, as people on the street adopt different styles of thick clothing—from regular jackets to woven fabrics—to slay in the conditions.
Nigerians planning to visit Fes for the duration of the AFCON will also need to adapt to the fashion styles of the locals to enjoy their stay in the city.

Sports: Senegal Parade Disputed AFCON Trophy Before Peru Friendly In France
Sports: Senegal Parade Disputed AFCON Trophy Before Peru Friendly In France
Senegal parade disputed AFCON trophy. The Senegalese national team paraded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations trophy before their international friendly match against Peru in France on Saturday, despite having the title stripped by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Board.
Led by captain Kalidou Koulibaly, the Senegalese players, wearing their AFCON medals, presented the disputed trophy to thousands of fans inside the Stade de France as the West African nation maintained its claim of being the reigning African champions.
The CAF Appeals Board had on March 17 overturned the outcome of the 2025 AFCON final in favour of Morocco, citing the Lions of Teranga’s decision to temporarily walk out of the match following a controversial late penalty awarded against them.
The Senegalese Football Federation rejected the verdict and filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday to challenge the decision.
The federation, however, argued that Senegal remains the champions of Africa, noting that the appeal panel had yet to explain the reasons behind the judgement.
“To be valid, a decision must be explained. It has not been, so Senegal are still African champions,” Serge Vittoz, part of a six-lawyer legal team handling the case, said at a press conference in Paris on Thursday.

Senegal Parade Disputed AFCON Troph
Lawyer Seydou Diagne also claimed at the press conference that there had been no order from CAF or its appeals panel asking Senegal to return the trophy and medals.
“To reassure the supporters, the fans and those who believe in the right to justice and to the protection of sporting discipline values of football, do not worry.
“There is no decision today from CAF or its appeals jury that orders the Senegalese Football Federation or the national team to return their medals or to return the trophy on the pitch; those decisions do not exist,” Mr Diagne stated.
