Community Development: NAF Strengthens Security as CAS Commissions Special Intervention Project in Kano

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on 10 September 2026, commissioned a Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Special Intervention Project at Government Secondary School, Bichi, Kano State, in furtherance of its commitment to community development, enhanced civil-military relations and improved security through meaningful citizen engagement.

The project, executed in honour of Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Sabiu Ibrahim, was commissioned by the CAS, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal EK Gabkwet.

The initiative was described as a vital non-kinetic effort aimed at improving community welfare, building public trust and strengthening cooperation between the military and local communities.

The CAS noted that contemporary security challenges require a whole-of-society approach that complements military operations with meaningful community engagement. The project comprises the renovation and furnishing of four classrooms, rehabilitation and equipping of the school clinic and sports office, as well as the construction of a modern mosque.

The facilities are expected to improve learning outcomes and enhance the well-being of students and residents of the host community.

Air Marshal Aneke further highlighted that the CAS Special Intervention Project Programme has become one of NAF’s impactful civil-military initiatives, with 18 projects completed nationwide and several others ongoing. He noted that such interventions strengthen the bond between the Armed Forces and the people, creating an enabling environment for improved intelligence sharing and operational effectiveness.

He therefore urged the community to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, stressing that stronger communities build stronger partnerships for lasting peace and security.

Tinubu Government Settles Long Outstanding Service Payments to Ex-Nigria Airways Workers

The Federal Government has concluded payment of outstanding severance benefits to 2,100 former workers of Nigeria Airways Limited, more than two decades after the national carrier was liquidated.

The payment, covering beneficiaries in Batches 1 to 7 represents severance benefits due to the affected former employees.

Batches 8 and 9, comprising 600 beneficiaries are being finalised with the beneficiaries scheduled to receive their payments in a matter of days. This brings the number of former Nigeria Airways workers covered by the payment to 2,700, with total benefits of ₦18 billion across the nine batches.

For the beneficiaries and their families, the development brings long awaited relief after years of waiting for an entitlement that, for many, had remained uncertain.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier approved the settlement of the outstanding severance obligations to former Nigeria Airways workers, directing that the long standing matter be brought to a conclusion. The President’s intervention provided the necessary impetus for the Federal Government to move towards resolving the outstanding obligation and bringing relief to the affected former workers.

Under the direction of the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, the relevant processes for identifying eligible beneficiaries, validating records and establishing the financial obligations were pursued, resulting in the commencement of payment to the first seven batches and the readiness of Batches 8 and 9 for immediate payment.

Commenting on the development, Oyedele said the payment reflects the Federal Government’s determination to address legitimate outstanding obligations and ensure that the welfare of average Nigerians is prioritised.

“Behind these figures are people and families who have waited for years to receive what is legitimately due to them. Our responsibility is to confront outstanding obligations, complete the necessary processes and, once the resources are secured, ensure that the people affected feel the impact of government positively,” he said.

The Minister said the exercise demonstrates what can be achieved when government institutions work together to resolve longstanding issues, adding that the objective is to ensure that legitimate beneficiaries receive their approved entitlements while maintaining the necessary safeguards around public funds.

The Federal Ministry of Finance appreciates the important collaboration of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, whose engagement with the Finance Ministry helped sustain the matter and advance efforts towards its resolution.

The National Assembly Joint Committees on Aviation also played an important role through their oversight and engagement on the outstanding benefits. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, and Chairman, House Committee on Aviation, Hon. Abdullahi Idris Garba, were actively engaged in advancing the case of former Nigeria Airways workers and supporting efforts towards settlement.

The payment process has involved extensive verification of beneficiary records, including biometric capture and validation of personal and banking information, to ensure that funds are paid to the rightful beneficiaries.

According to the Director in charge of the Presidential Initiative and Continuous Audit (PICA) Department, Seldam Dangin, the Ministry is preparing a second phase, a mop up exercise, to capture beneficiaries whose records could not be processed during the first phase.

He said the exercise will focus on updating inaccurate or outdated information, additional biometric verification where necessary and correction of banking details. It will also address cases involving deceased beneficiaries, with next of kin or estates required to complete the necessary verification and legal processes before payment.

The mop up exercise is expected to commence by the end of September or early October, subject to final arrangements.

The commencement of payment to the first seven batches, alongside the readiness of Batches 8 and 9, marks a major step towards resolving the longstanding severance obligation to former Nigeria Airways workers, while the planned mop up will provide an opportunity to resolve outstanding cases and bring more eligible beneficiaries into the payment process.

Goronyo Receives North-West Support Group, Reaffirms Commitment to Tinubu’s 20e7 Re-election

The Honourable Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., on Wednesday, 10th September 2026, received a delegation of stakeholders from the seven North-West states, led by Dr. Haris H. M. Jibril, in his office, where they formally introduced a proposed support organisation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo (BMG) Associates for Asiwaju/Shettima 2027, dedicated to mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation, comprising political stakeholders and representatives from the seven North-West states, formally presented the proposed organisation, its structure, operational framework and objectives, and sought the Minister’s acceptance to serve as its National Convener and Leader.

The group also sought the Minister’s permission to adopt his initials, BMG, as the acronym for the organisation, while expressing its intention to operate under his guidance and in accordance with the directives and leadership structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North-West.

Presenting the rationale behind the initiative, the delegation said the proposed organisation was conceived in recognition of Minister Goronyo’s longstanding commitment to political mobilisation, leadership development and grassroots engagement, as well as his contributions to the success of the APC during previous election cycles.

The delegation stated that its members associate the Minister’s leadership with integrity, loyalty, grassroots mobilisation, mentorship and purposeful political engagement, noting that his experience in political organisation and mobilisation makes him particularly suited to provide strategic direction to the proposed platform.

They specifically highlighted his role in youth mobilisation during the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council, as well as his previous responsibilities within the North-West APC political structure, as evidence of his capacity to mobilise people, coordinate stakeholders and provide purposeful leadership towards achieving a common political objective.

According to the delegation, these experiences, together with the Minister’s understanding of the political dynamics of the North-West and his established relationships with stakeholders across the region, informed their decision to establish the organisation under his leadership as a platform to support the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Kashim Shettima 2027 presidential ticket.

The delegation explained that the organisation was being established to provide a disciplined, coordinated and purpose-driven platform for mobilising support, engaging Nigerians at the grassroots, communicating the achievements of the Tinubu administration and promoting the policies and programmes of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

They emphasised that the organisation would not only focus on political mobilisation but would also promote constructive engagement with citizens, particularly young people and women, while encouraging responsible participation in the democratic process.

According to the delegation, the proposed structure would comprise representatives across the seven North-West states, with State Coordinators and other officials responsible for youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, organisation, communication and coordination across the three senatorial districts of each state.

The delegation further presented a proposed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which would serve as a guiding framework for the organisation, with emphasis on discipline, loyalty, accountability, teamwork, respect for constituted party leadership and responsible political engagement.
Speaking during the meeting, the delegation appealed to the Minister to accept the responsibility of serving as National Convener and Leader, assuring him of the commitment of members to work collectively towards strengthening support for the Tinubu-Shettima administration and ensuring effective grassroots mobilisation across the North-West.

In his response, Minister Goronyo commended the initiative and expressed appreciation to the members of the delegation for their commitment, patriotism and confidence in his leadership.
He noted that many of those present were people with whom he had previously worked closely within the APC campaign structure, including during his tenure as Director of Youth Mobilisation for the North-West and subsequently as Zonal Secretary of the North-West APC.

According to him, the decision of the stakeholders to come together once again demonstrates their shared commitment to Nigeria’s development, unity and prosperity, as well as their confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister acknowledged the importance of grassroots mobilisation in strengthening democratic participation and ensuring that government policies and programmes are properly communicated to citizens.

He stressed that political mobilisation should be conducted with discipline, respect, responsibility and a clear understanding of the concerns and aspirations of the people.

Goronyo highlighted some of the major interventions of the Tinubu administration, particularly in infrastructure development, noting that the Federal Government had prioritised road and rail infrastructure as critical drivers of economic growth, national development and improved connectivity.

He cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Trans-Saharan Corridor, Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Corridor and Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway among the administration’s major legacy road projects.

He also noted the ongoing rehabilitation and construction of other strategic road projects across the country, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, stressing that improved infrastructure would enhance connectivity, facilitate trade, reduce travel time, create economic opportunities and strengthen national integration.

The Minister said the administration’s interventions were not limited to the road sector but also extended to railway development and other critical areas aimed at improving transportation, facilitating movement of goods and people, and supporting economic activities across the country.
He stated that the achievements of the administration were numerous and should be communicated to Nigerians in a clear, respectful and factual manner.

He therefore urged members of the proposed organisation to remain focused, disciplined and committed to constructive engagement with Nigerians, particularly those who may not yet fully understand the policies, programmes and reforms of the Tinubu administration.

The Minister emphasised that effective political mobilisation requires listening to the people, understanding their concerns and communicating government policies in a manner that promotes trust, unity and confidence in democratic institutions.

Goronyo assured the delegation that he had accepted the responsibility entrusted to him and pledged to provide the necessary leadership, guidance and strategic direction to the organisation to the best of his ability.

“As the Secretary of the Support Groups of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Presidential Campaign Council, we will continue to work with you, mobilise Nigerians and engage our people constructively towards ensuring the successful return of our dear President, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in 2027, Insha Allah,” he said.

Following his acceptance of the leadership responsibility, the Honourable Minister formally inaugurated the organisation and charged its leadership and members to remain united, disciplined, accountable and committed to responsible political mobilisation across the North-West.

He urged the members to build a strong network capable of reaching communities at the grassroots and effectively communicating the policies, programmes and achievements of the Federal Government.

Goronyo further called for unity, discipline and loyalty among members, urging them to work collectively towards strengthening support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu and the successful re-election of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Kashim Shettima ticket in 2027.

He also expressed his readiness to work with relevant political leaders, party officials and stakeholders across the North-West to ensure that the organisation operates within the framework of responsible political mobilisation, party discipline and effective grassroots engagement.

The Minister charged the leadership of the organisation to ensure inclusiveness and fairness in its operations, while encouraging members to promote peaceful political participation and respect for differing views within the democratic space.
He concluded by praying for divine guidance and continued peace, unity, stability and prosperity for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
