IGP Disu Receives NFIU Director, Pledges Stronger Collaboration To Combat Financial Crimes

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Riliwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, received the Director, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Hajia Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, on a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The visit focused on deepening operational synergy, strengthening information-sharing mechanisms, and institutionalizing strategic collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the NFIU.

The NFIU Director was accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising the Chief of Staff, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed; General Counsel, Felix Obiamalu; Chief Operating Officer, Law Enforcement Agencies, Mr. Emmanuel Sotande; Chief Operating Officer, Information Security Systems, Mr. Abdulrahman Mustapha; Special Adviser on Operations, Mr. Douglas Egwuemi; and Special Adviser on Administration, Mr. Mustapha Awaisu.

Speaking during the visit, Hajia Bakari described the partnership between both agencies as fundamental to Nigeria’s national security architecture. She noted that the forthcoming 2027 Mutual Evaluation would critically assess how effectively the Police utilises NFIU financial intelligence to dismantle money laundering networks, counter terrorism financing, and secure prosecutions in related financial crimes.

While commending the IGP for approving a joint stock-taking exercise between the two agencies, she called for deeper institutional cooperation, stressing the need to extend Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) awareness to police commands and formations nationwide.

She emphasized a shift toward institutionalized excellence rather than isolated successes, and concluded by extending heartfelt condolences to the Force over officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, while reaffirming the NFIU’s continued support.

In his remarks, IGP Disu commended the delegation and called for a truly symbiotic partnership between both institutions. He highlighted the critical role of the NPF’s specialised Anti-Money Laundering Unit, alongside other designated operational divisions, in the investigation of financial crimes, terrorism financing, banditry, and complex transnational offences.

Acknowledging anti-money laundering as a highly technical domain, the IGP urged the NFIU to sustain advanced and ongoing training for specialized police personnel. He further requested continuous access to actionable financial intelligence and modern investigative tools to strengthen the quality of investigations and improve conviction rates.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to working with strategic partners such as the NFIU to enhance operational capacity, safeguard national integrity, and restore public trust in law enforcement.

Governor Eno To Commission 39 Projects In 30 Days, Approves N31 Billion Economic Empowerment Program

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved a 30-day programme for the commissioning of 39 projects as part of activities marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom State.

The decision followed a presentation by the Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Dr Morgan Ekanem, during Monday’s State Executive Council meeting at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo.

The Executive Council also received from Barr Ekanem, a brief on the forthcoming official visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and plans for the month-long commissioning exercise.

Among the projects slated for commissioning are the New Terminal Building, Airport Hospital, Aviation Village, the 14.5KM Nsit Atai–Okobo Road, the Dualisation of extended Ring Road 3, the Command and Control Centre, AkwaGIS office complex, the State Secretariat Annex and the ARISE Palm Resort.

Following the presentation, the Governor directed all relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, to ensure seamless coordination and adequate preparations for the successful hosting of the President and the commissioning programme.

The Council also approved the release of N31 billion for the implementation of a statewide Economic Empowerment Programme, with N1 billion allocated to each of the 31 Local Government Areas.

The intervention is expected to benefit 165,912 residents through youth skills acquisition and starter packs, business grants for women and traders, agricultural support, SME development and transport empowerment. A committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government was constituted to work out implementation modalities.

The Executive Council also received reports on achievements in the health sector, endorsed the phased implementation of solar-powered rural water projects across the state’s 369 wards, approved plans for the 2026 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival, fixed December 18, 2026, for the Annual Christmas Carol Festival, and announced a two-day youth conference.

Council further noted the passage of all 12 Executive Bills by the State House of Assembly, swore in a new State Statistician-General, and received the Governor’s Best African Leader in People-Centric Governance Award.

Briefing Government House Correspondents after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, said the resolutions underscored Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure delivery while expanding economic opportunities for citizens across the state.

“The Executive Council took far-reaching decisions aimed at sustaining the implementation of the ARISE Agenda. From the commissioning of major projects to the approval of the N31 billion economic empowerment programme, these resolutions reflect government’s resolve to deepen inclusive development and improve the welfare of Akwa Ibom people,” Umanah stated.

Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, and members of the Society’s leadership on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where both institutions explored areas of collaboration in community policing, professional training, and emergency response.

The NSE delegation was led by its President, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, and included Engr. Kashim Abdul Ali, FNSE, mni; Engr. Tasiu Sa’ad Gidan Wudil, FNSE, mni; Engr. Aliyu Ibrahim Dutsinma; Engr. Mohammed Kabir Wanori, FNSE; Engr. Ademola Isaac Agoro, FNSE; Engr. Dauda Musa, FNSE; and Engr. Musa Ibrahim Musa, MNSE, fdc.

Speaking during the visit, Engr. Rabiu conveyed the greetings of the NSE Council and membership to the Inspector-General and congratulated him on the progress recorded by the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership. He commended the longstanding and cordial relationship between the two institutions, particularly the Force’s consistent support over the years.

He also informed the Inspector-General of the Society’s forthcoming 2026 International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State, and appealed for the continued support of the Nigeria Police Force, including security and participation.

In his response, IGP Disu described engineers as vital partners in national development and commended their professionalism. He specially recognised the dedication and sacrifices of police officers serving in Maiduguri and assured the Society of the Force’s support in providing adequate security for the forthcoming conference.

The Inspector-General further reiterated his commitment to sustained engagement with professional bodies and called on the NSE to support the Force’s community policing initiatives through public enlightenment. He also urged the Society to always carry the Police along in the planning and execution of its training programmes to enhance capacity building within the Force, while identifying emergency response and disaster management as critical areas for collaboration.
