ICPC Inaugurates Anti-Corruption Unit at Nigeria’s Premier Aviation College, Kaduna

Representing the Honourable Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu SAN, the Assistant Commissioner and Head of the System Study and Review Department (SSRD) for the Kaduna State Office, Mr. Habib Muhammad Kwalam, conveyed the Commission’s profound appreciation to NCAT’s management for their unwavering commitment to establishing the unit.

In his address, Mr. Kwalam charged the newly inaugurated members to execute their responsibilities with unwavering dedication, impartiality, and an unshakeable commitment to ethical conduct. He emphasised that the unit’s success hinges entirely upon its members’ willingness to exemplify the highest standards of integrity and serve as paragons of virtue within the college community.

“Corruption remains a formidable impediment to national development,” Kwalam asserted, warning that corrupt practices possess the capacity to fundamentally undermine organisational effectiveness, erode public reputation, and stifle institutional growth. He urged ACTU members to maintain constant vigilance and adopt a proactive stance in identifying practices that could foster corrupt behaviour.

The Assistant Commissioner further stressed the importance of extending anti-corruption education beyond staff members to encompass the student body, noting that cultivating an anti-corruption culture demands continuous awareness and active participation from every member of the institutional community.

Responding on behalf of the Rector, the Deputy Rector of Administration, Dr. John Ali, reaffirmed the institution’s unwavering readiness to collaborate with the ICPC in combating corruption. Dr. Ali expressed the college’s steadfast commitment to supporting initiatives designed to promote accountability, transparency, and good governance.

“Establishment of this ACTU will further strengthen our internal mechanisms for preventing corrupt practices and ensuring that all members of the college community operate within established rules and ethical standards,” Dr. Ali stated. He provided assurances that the college management would extend every necessary support to enable the unit to discharge its mandate effectively.

The inauguration ceremony reached its formal climax with the administration of the oath of office by the Head of Legal for the ICPC Kaduna State Office, Dr. Agada Akogwu. The swearing-in exercise formally committed the members to the responsibilities entrusted to them, underscoring the paramount importance of confidentiality, integrity, impartiality, and dedication in the discharge of their duties.

In his vote of thanks, the newly appointed Chairman of the ACTU, Mr. Kolawale Rafi’u, expressed profound gratitude to the ICPC for establishing the unit and for the confidence reposed in its members. Seven NAF Officers Excel at Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College Course 47

Seven Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officers have distinguished themselves at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), following the successful completion of Course 47, which also commemorated the 50th anniversary of the College.

The course brought together 90 officers, comprising 64 officers from the Ghana Armed Forces and 26 officers from 14 allied African countries, including Benin, Botswana, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Malawi, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Togo.

Nigeria was represented by nine officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, comprising seven NAF officers and two Nigerian Navy officers. The Nigerian contingent performed creditably throughout the course, with Squadron Leader AM Sanda emerging as the Best Allied Graduate. The award is presented to the allied participant who demonstrates outstanding academic performance, broad military knowledge, professional competence and leadership ability. The achievement is a strong testament to the professionalism, intellectual capacity and commitment to excellence of NAF officers in professional military education.

It also underscores the Service’s deliberate investment in developing strategically minded, operationally capable and mission-ready personnel equipped to operate effectively in complex and evolving security environments.

Beyond individual achievement, Nigeria’s participation in the course reinforces the country’s commitment to regional integration, collective security and stability across Africa. It also highlights the important role of professional military education and strategic exchanges in strengthening interoperability, fostering mutual understanding and deepening military-to-military cooperation among African armed forces.

NPF Response to VeryDarkMan(VDM) Comments Made at the Nigerian Bar Association Conference in Port Harcourt

The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to comments made by Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as “VeryDarkMan(VDM),” at the recent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference in Port Harcourt, in which he alleged that police officers manning checkpoints along major highways relay information to kidnappers and bandits regarding the identity and movement of travellers, thereby facilitating abductions for ransom.

The Nigeria Police Force takes all allegations concerning the conduct of its personnel seriously. We wish to state clearly:
1. On the Nature of the Allegation
The Nigeria Police Force firmly rejects these allegations as unsubstantiated and unfairly damaging to an institution entrusted with the protection of millions of Nigerians. Allegations of this gravity demand a corresponding standard of evidence, and that standard has not yet been met.

For the avoidance of doubt, police personnel deployed to checkpoints and other locations nationwide are there to prevent crime, detect criminal activity and protect citizens, not to facilitate kidnapping. Indeed, these same police officers routinely confront the very criminal elements alleged to be receiving such information. Police personnel have been ambushed, attacked and killed, while police stations, formations and operational assets have equally been targeted by terrorists, kidnappers and other violent criminals.

2. Our Officers Deserve Better Than Blanket Accusations
The Nigeria Police Force is made up of hundreds of thousands of officers who report for duty daily under difficult, underfunded, and often dangerous conditions, many of them at checkpoints exposed to the very criminal elements they are trying to keep off our roads. Sweeping public accusations that paint the entire Force as complicit in the crimes it exists to prevent are deeply demoralizing to these officers and unfair to the majority who serve with integrity. Where individual officers are found to have compromised their duty, they will face the full weight of internal discipline and the law. But an entire institution should not be condemned on the strength of a public statement made without evidence.

3. Invitation to Substantiate
Accordingly, the Nigeria Police Force hereby invites Mr. Martins Vincent Otse to produce, without delay, the evidence upon which he based these serious allegations, including any evidence that police personnel at checkpoints identify wealthy individuals and subsequently transmit information about them to kidnappers for the purpose of facilitating their abduction. Any such information will be treated with urgency and investigated thoroughly. We encourage any member of the public with credible evidence of officer misconduct to come forward through these channels rather than through public allegation alone, so that appropriate action can be taken.

4. On Resourcing
The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency and accountability. We will continue to investigate all credible allegations of misconduct,however they arise, and we will not hesitate to act where wrongdoing is established.
However, the sacrifices of our personnel and the integrity of the institution will not be casually diminished by unverified allegations.

Anyone with credible evidence of misconduct should bring it forward through the appropriate channels for investigation in accordance with the law.
The Force calls on members of the public to exercise responsibility in making and sharing allegations concerning national security institutions and to distinguish between legitimate criticism, which strengthens accountability, and unsubstantiated claims, which can endanger public trust and national security.
