IMF appoints Elumelu to Advisory Council on Entrepreneurship? Growth. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appointed Heirs Holdings Founder and Group Chair, Tony Elumelu, to its Advisory Council on Entrepreneurship and Growth, convened by IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva. His appointment was disclosed in a statement on Friday.
The Advisory Council of the IMF comprises global business leaders, policymakers, and academics, dedicated to identifying and addressing regulatory barriers to entrepreneurship.
Its mandate is to recommend policies that enhance resource allocation, stimulate innovation, and catalyse sustainable private sector-led economic growth.
“Elumelu, Africa’s leading advocate of entrepreneurship and whose Foundation has funded, mentored and trained over 25,000 African entrepreneurs since 2015, champions entrepreneurship as the engine for the economic transformation of Africa.
“A self-made entrepreneur, Elumelu’s embracing of entrepreneurship is fundamental to his concept of Africapitalism, his belief that Africa’s private sector can and must play a leading role in the continent’s development, making long-term investments, that deliver social and economic value.

“Elumelu will be instrumental in ensuring that Africa’s entrepreneurial potential is central to global economic policymaking.
Other members of the Council include: Harberger Professor of Economics, University of Chicago, Professor Ufuk Akcigit; Saudi Ambassador to the United States, HRH Ambassador Reema Bandar Al-Saud; Chair, CEO, and Co-Founder of Salesforce, Mr. Marc Benioff; Executive Chair, Banco Santander, Ms. Ana Botín; Chairman, Tata Group, Mr. Natarajan Chandrasekaran; Chief Executive, Vodafone Group, Ms. Margherita Della Valle; Founder, Chairman and CEO, Vista Equity Partners, Mr. Robert Smith and Argentine Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Mr. Federico Sturzenegger.

The chief of army staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed his commitment to securing Nigeria as he celebrated Eid-el-Fitr with wounded soldiers at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital.
The army chief made this pledge during a sallah luncheon with the sick and the wounded in action personnel and troops deployed on operations in 1 Division’s area of responsibility on Sunday in Kaduna.
Mr Oluyede praised their sacrifices and assured them they had not been forgotten.
He explained that most soldiers sustained injuries during operations in the northeast and northwest, including Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Fansanyamma.

The army chief reiterated his commitment to national security, highlighting successes in clearing the corridor from Kano to Abuja.
“We are making significant gains in our operations and will continue until our country is fully secured,” Mr Oluyede said.
Despite acknowledging setbacks, Mr Oluyede expressed optimism about progress, attributing successes to the troops’ resilience, alertness, and determination.

Special Assistant to Governor Umo Eno on Arewa Community, Alhaji Ibrahim Iliya has commended the Governor for his inclusive governance, particularly towards the Arewa community.
Speaking on Sunday at Eid el-Fitri communal prayers at the Central Mosque in Uyo, marking the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, Iliya highlighted Governor Eno’s benevolence especially the yearly hosting of the Muslim on Iftar and other humanitarian gestures extended to them.
He noted that Governor Eno was the first governor in the state’s history to host Muslims at the government house for Iftar (breaking of the fast), demonstrating his commitment to inclusivity.
“Since 1999, no governor in Akwa Ibom has invited us to the government house for Iftar, except Pastor Umo Eno. It shows that he carries everyone along, regardless of their tribe, language or religion. He is a man of the people.”
Iliya urged Muslim faithful in the State to maintain peaceful coexistence and avoid any actions that could disrupt the harmonious relationship with the State Government and indigenes.
“Especially the youths, we have built a good relationship here. We don’t want anyone to jeopardize that,” he advised.
“I have lived in Akwa Ibom for 35 years, I know Governor Umo Eno as a man of peace. He desires peace for this State,” Iliya added.

Earlier, Imam Bello Dahiru of the Central Mosque praised Governor Eno for fostering peace in the State. He prayed for Eno’s success beyond 2027, and for the well-being of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria. He also blessed the month of Ramadan.
Sariki Hassan Sadauki, the Sariki Hausa in the State, also offered prayers for a successful Ramadan celebration.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for ensuring a peaceful environment for all residents, both indigenes and non-indigenes.

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has cautioned youths in the state against attacking innocent members of the non-indigenous community in the state following the kiIIings of 16 Kano bound Hausa travelers in Uromi, Edo State.
Sanusi spoke on Sunday, after leading the Eid-el-fitr prayer at the Kofar Mata Eid ground in the state.
His words, “We got information yesterday (Saturday evening) that youths in some areas are planning to launch reprisal attacks on non-indigenes after the Eid prayers. We are instructing them not to carry out such attacks.
“We appeal to them not to take laws into their hands. They should avoid a breakdown of law and order. We call on all traditional leaders to be vigilant.

“Similarly, we appeal to the relevant authorities to ensure justice for the victims. They should investigate and prosecute persons behind the barbaric act,” he said.
Sanusi also called on Muslim faithful to sustain the lessons learned from the Ramadan fasting and not return to sins or wrongdoings.
