ICPC Sets For Stronger Ties With Federal Fire Service In Anti-Corruption Drive
ICPC sets for stronger ties with Federal Fire Service in anti-corruption drive. In a move to deepen inter-agency cooperation and promote a culture of integrity in public service, the Lagos State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Zone A Headquarters of the Federal Fire Service in Lagos.
The delegation, led by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC), Mr. Alexander Chukwurah, fsi, recently called on the Zonal Command, with the aim of fostering synergy and enhancing mutual understanding between the two critical public institutions.
Discussions during the high-level engagement focused on forging a robust institutional partnership that would not only strengthen operational effectiveness but also build a shared framework for accountability and transparency.
Central to the dialogue was a mutual agreement to organise cross-training sessions designed to build capacity across both agencies. Under this arrangement, the ICPC will offer training on its mandate, anti-corruption strategies, and preventive mechanisms, while the Federal Fire Service will, in turn, equip ICPC personnel with essential fire safety skills and emergency response techniques.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Chukwurah underscored the importance of collective action in the fight against corruption, noting that sustainable development relies heavily on the ethical conduct of public institutions. He commended the Federal Fire Service for its readiness to collaborate and stressed the need for continuous synergy in promoting good governance.

In his response, the Zonal Controller (Lagos and Ogun State), ACG Ahmad Mohammed Gana, warmly received the ICPC team and affirmed the Service’s commitment to the proposed capacity-building initiatives. He described the partnership as timely and essential, especially in an era where inter-agency collaboration is crucial to improving public service delivery.
As part of the visit, the ICPC presented Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to the Federal Fire Service, aimed at reinforcing public awareness and advocacy against corruption.
The event concluded symbolising the beginning of a strategic alliance focused on institutional effectiveness, ethical renewal, and improved service delivery to the Nigerian public.

NYSC Releases 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II call-up Letters for Corps Members Posted to Niger, Sokoto
The National Youth Service Corps has released the deployment for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II for Niger and Sokoto states.

According to an announcement shared on NYSC X handle on Sunday, prospective corps members posted to Niger and Sokoto states can now print their call-up letters.
The announcement read, “2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Deployment has been released for Niger and Sokoto States.
“PCMs posted to these states have been enabled to print their Call-Up Letters.”
The development comes after the NYSC extended the commencement date of the orientation course in the two states due to ongoing renovation works at the orientation camps.
Following the extension, the Corps announced that the orientation course for the states would commence on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The cut-off and swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 14, while the closing ceremony is fixed for Tuesday, September 1.
The corps had attributed the extension to ongoing renovation works at the orientation camps by the respective state governments.

It also advised prospective corps members posted to the two states to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid travelling at night.

Kogi Police Restore calm After Reprisal Attack in Community
The Kogi State Police Command says it has restored calm following recent reprisal killings in Abugi and adjoining communities in the state.

A statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Salisu Afusat, stated that the Command had taken decisive steps to prevent further escalation and restore peace in the affected area.
Recall that no fewer than five persons were killed in what was later identified as a reprisal attack following the killing of a herder in the community on Thursday.
“The Area Command, Lokoja, in conjunction with relevant security and community stakeholders, conducted critical engagements with traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders, focusing on reconciliation, restoration of peaceful coexistence and addressing the underlying causes of the conflict,” Afusat noted.
She said the Command had also commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident through the State Criminal Investigation Department, with efforts underway to identify, trace and apprehend all persons found to have participated in or contributed to the killings.
She said that following the interventions and stakeholder engagements, normalcy had been restored to Abugi and its environs, with security monitoring continuing to ensure that the peace was sustained.
“The restoration of calm, however, does not in any way halt the ongoing investigation, as the Command remains committed to ensuring that those responsible for the loss of lives are identified and brought to justice,” she added.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated that the Kogi State Police Command remained fully committed to protecting the lives and property of residents across the state.
He urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the police and other security agencies.
