ICPC Inaugurates Anti-Corruption Unit at Nigeria’s Premier Aviation College, Kaduna
In a significant move to bolster institutional integrity within Nigeria’s aviation sector, the Kaduna State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has formally inaugurated an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The ceremony, which marked a pivotal step in the Commission’s ongoing crusade against institutional malfeasance, underscored the Federal Government’s determination to embed ethical governance across all tiers of public service.
Representing the Honourable Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu SAN, the Assistant Commissioner and Head of the System Study and Review Department (SSRD) for the Kaduna State Office, Mr. Habib Muhammad Kwalam, conveyed the Commission’s profound appreciation to NCAT’s management for their unwavering commitment to establishing the unit.
In his address, Mr. Kwalam charged the newly inaugurated members to execute their responsibilities with unwavering dedication, impartiality, and an unshakeable commitment to ethical conduct. He emphasised that the unit’s success hinges entirely upon its members’ willingness to exemplify the highest standards of integrity and serve as paragons of virtue within the college community.
“Corruption remains a formidable impediment to national development,” Kwalam asserted, warning that corrupt practices possess the capacity to fundamentally undermine organisational effectiveness, erode public reputation, and stifle institutional growth. He urged ACTU members to maintain constant vigilance and adopt a proactive stance in identifying practices that could foster corrupt behaviour.
The Assistant Commissioner further stressed the importance of extending anti-corruption education beyond staff members to encompass the student body, noting that cultivating an anti-corruption culture demands continuous awareness and active participation from every member of the institutional community.
Responding on behalf of the Rector, the Deputy Rector of Administration, Dr. John Ali, reaffirmed the institution’s unwavering readiness to collaborate with the ICPC in combating corruption. Dr. Ali expressed the college’s steadfast commitment to supporting initiatives designed to promote accountability, transparency, and good governance.
“Establishment of this ACTU will further strengthen our internal mechanisms for preventing corrupt practices and ensuring that all members of the college community operate within established rules and ethical standards,” Dr. Ali stated. He provided assurances that the college management would extend every necessary support to enable the unit to discharge its mandate effectively.
The inauguration ceremony reached its formal climax with the administration of the oath of office by the Head of Legal for the ICPC Kaduna State Office, Dr. Agada Akogwu. The swearing-in exercise formally committed the members to the responsibilities entrusted to them, underscoring the paramount importance of confidentiality, integrity, impartiality, and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
In his vote of thanks, the newly appointed Chairman of the ACTU, Mr. Kolawale Rafi’u, expressed profound gratitude to the ICPC for establishing the unit and for the confidence reposed in its members. He pledged the unit’s unwavering commitment to working closely with both the Commission and the college management in the collective endeavour to prevent and combat corruption.

Nigerian Navy Intercepts Illicit Petroleum Products, Suspected Cannabis in Lagos
The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 500 litres of products suspected to be illegally sourced Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa during an operation in Folu Community, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

The operation was conducted by personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) LEKKI on 24 August 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade and storage of petroleum products as well as the proliferation of illicit drugs within the Base’s Area of Operations.
The suspects fled the location before they could be apprehended, while the recovered exhibits were secured and conveyed to the Base for further investigation and appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.

NPF Arrest 10 Suspects, Recovers AK-47 Rifle, Ammunition in Firearms Trafficking Operations
The Nigeria Police Force, through operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Force Headquarters, has arrested ten suspects in separate intelligence-led operations targeting criminal networks involved in unlawful possession, trafficking and distribution of firearms across parts of the country.

In one operation conducted across Imo and Rivers States, eight suspects were arrested in connection with a suspected criminal syndicate involved in kidnapping and illegal firearms procurement. The operation led to the arrest of Mohammadu Sani, identified as the principal suspect, who was apprehended on the outskirts of Owerri, Imo State, with an AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Investigation revealed that the suspect had previously operated in Kogi State before relocating to Port Harcourt, where he allegedly commenced efforts to reconstitute his criminal network. Findings further linked members of the syndicate to kidnapping operations in parts of Rivers and Imo States and established the procurement of the recovered firearm through an alleged firearms trafficking intermediary.
In a separate operation targeting a suspected firearms trafficking syndicate in the North-Central region, operatives arrested Yakubu Danladi Pam and Abdulsalam Mohammed Hussain. Recovered from the suspects were one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, one Type 06 rifle, two magazines and 28 rounds of live ammunition.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects were involved in the supply, transportation and distribution of firearms across parts of the North-Central and North-Eastern regions.

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr Miah Md Mainul Kabir, today reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to deepening defence and maritime security cooperation with the Nigerian Navy in the areas of maritime security, professional training, technology exchange, naval shipbuilding and defence-industrial development.

He made this known during a high-level engagement with the Chief of the Naval Staff, where he underscored the longstanding cordial relations between the two countries and the importance of translating that relationship into practical areas of cooperation.
Responding, the Chief of the Naval Staff appreciated the High Commissioner and his delegation for the visit and highlighted Nigeria’s operational experience in combating piracy and other maritime crimes in the Gulf of Guinea. He noted that such experience provides opportunities for professional exchanges and shared learning, while emphasising the importance of stronger cooperation among regional navies in addressing maritime threats that transcend national boundaries. The CNS also referenced Nigeria’s participation in multinational maritime security initiatives, including engagement with the Combined Maritime Task Force, as a framework that could be leveraged to counter militancy on the maritime border between Myanmar and Bangladesh.
The engagement further explored opportunities for training and professional exchanges, naval technology, shipbuilding and indigenous industrial development. The Nigerian Navy expressed interest in Bangladesh’s garment manufacturing industry, noting it as a potential area for knowledge sharing to support local
production of military uniforms. Discussions also examined prospects for technical cooperation in naval shipbuilding.

The engagement concluded with an invitation for the Chief of the Naval Staff to undertake a visit to Bangladesh, which would provide an opportunity to further advance the areas of mutual interest. The meeting underscores the importance of sustained engagement between the Nigeria Navy and other world navies to strengthen maritime security, develop professional and technical capacity, promote indigenous defence-industrial capabilities, and advance mutually beneficial bilateral relations.
