Emergency Rule Saved Rivers, Fubara Orchestrated All Crises, Ex-Head Of Service Reveals

Emergency Rule Saved Rivers, Fubara Orchestrated All Crises, Ex-Head Of Service Reveals
Emergency rule saved Rivers, Fubara orchestrated all crises, Ex-head of service reveals. The immediate-past Head of the Civil Service in Rivers State, Dr. George Nweke, has revealed that the decision of President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency saved the people of the State from anarchy.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Friday, Nweke revealed that the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara was behind the crisis in the State by orchestrating destruction of public buildings and other sinister motives.
He, however, noted that he was neither sacked nor was pressured to resign as Head of Service of Rivers State.
He thanked Tinubu for his swift intervention in the state’a political crisis, especially on the declaration of emergency rule in the State, which has been ratified by the National Assembly.
The former Head of Service said: “My dear People of Rivers state, it is with humility and every sense of responsibility that I stand to address you today as your former Head of Service.
“You would recall that I was appointed as the Head of Service by our suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Let me also use this opportunity to appreciate him for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Head of Service.
With the loads of misinformation on print and electronic media, I have chosen to put the record straight, I was not sacked neither was I pressured to resign, I did it willingly from the depth of my heart.
“However as an insider and a key player in this administration by my position, who worked closely with Siminalayi Fubara, it will be unfair for me to keep silent or not to address some key factors that has affected or will affect our state if we continue on this trajectory.
“I want to use this medium to thank Mr. President for a swift intervention in Rivers State crisis, especially on the state of emergency that was declared and assented to by the National Assembly.
“You will recall that when the governor was suspended, as the Head of Service, I was the next in command, so I am not speaking from outside, I am speaking as an insider.
If not for the intervention of Mr. President, Nigeria would have faced the worst economic sabotage and Rivers State would have been up in flames.
“First, it all started with the Rivers State House of Assembly where the Governor, Siminilayi Fubara directed his Chief of Staff (Edison Ehie) to burn down the Assembly in a way to avert his impeachment, that evening Edison was in Government House with two other boys, including the former chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA, one Chijioke.
“I was there with them when a bag of money was handed over to Edison for that operation, though I do not know the amount inside.
I want to tell Rivers people today that the House of Assembly complex in Moscow Road was clearly brought down by Edison Ehie under the instructions of Governor Siminilayi Fubara, I challenge him to an open confrontation and I will throw more light on it.
“A day after that incident, I almost resigned but I was very scared because I know the power of a sitting governor and he knew that I am aware of the whole plan and that I am discomforted with the unconscionable act and deliberate posture of innocence and mien of a sheep.
“Another attempt was also made to destroy the residential quarters of the House of Assembly members if not for the press conference that was made there by Rivers youths, Rivers elders and National Assembly members, that would have been another barbaric demolition in Rivers State.
“I came to realise that they actually wanted to demolish that second building because after some weeks, he personally told me that if he knew early he would have gone to pull down their hall before visiting the residential quarters of the Assembly and that he didn’t actually know that they had such a beautiful hall were they are using now for their sitting.
“I was shocked and I asked myself how could a man that wants to lead his people be destroying his state assets and wasting public funds on a needless ego fight.

Emergency Rule Saved Rivers
“Thirdly, I want to advise some key stakeholders who have condemned the state of emergency made by the President and confirmed by the National Assembly to retract their statements, I also understand that they are only seeing the surface.
“If the President did not take proactive step, no one knows who would have been affected by the sinister plans that were cooking.
While I thank Mr. President for the state of emergency that was declared in Rivers State for a period of six months, I will plead with him not to give up on Rivers State affairs because a lot are going on there with Governor Fubara.
“One of the factors that got me removed was when Governor Fubara told me that they will use the Ijaws to decide who will become the next president of Nigeria and I asked him how will that work?
“Is it by votes or by what means? He clearly told me that he is the chief security officer of Rivers State and his brother is in charge of Bayelsa State and all the pipelines are under their care, that at the appropriate time they will tell the boys what to do and fund was not an issue.
“That was why when he made that statement in his public function that ‘I will tell the boys what to do at the appropriate time’, I knew something was up and perhaps the time was near.”

Osun APC Chieftain Begs Tinubu To Intervene In Contributory Pensioners’ Plights

Osun APC Chieftain Begs Tinubu To Intervene In Contributory Pensioners’ Plights
Osun APC chieftain begs Tinubu to intervene in contributory pensioners’ plights. The politician said that many pensioners were paid 50 per cent and 25 per cent lump sum.
Achieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to look into the plights of contributory pensioners in the country.
Mr Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council, made the appeal while speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Osogbo.
The APC chieftain said that delayed, non-payment of pensions, inadequate funding and corruption within the pension scheme led to hardship and financial stress for pensioners.
Mr Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, said that since 2004, when the Pensions Reform Act(PRA 2004) on the contributory pension scheme was introduced by the Federal Government, the pensioner had not been treated fairly.
According to him, many pensioners, after two to three years are unable to access their pension while some are paid 50 per cent and 25 per cent lump sum.
The APC said that it was sad that many civil servants who had served the government for 35 years were being subjected to untold hardship after retirement due to delay and poor payment.
Mr Oyintiloye, who commended Mr Tinubu for approving N758 billion bond in February to clear 16 years pension liabilities, said that more needed to be done to save pensioners from untold hardships after retirement.
He urged the President to work with the National Assembly to review the 2004 Pensions Reform Act to enable pensioners to withdraw their retirement savings immediately after exiting the public service.
Mr Oyintiloye said that such a step would enable them to cater for themselves, venture into any business of their choice rather than living on 25 per cent lump sum of their savings and the monthly peanut.
He said that the life pensioners were living after retirement due to poor pay and delay could destroy the morale of those still in service and the coming generations.

APC
He stated, “I want to appeal to the President to look into the plights of pensioners under the contributory scheme. The 2004 Pension Act needs reviewing to enable pensioners to lead a decent life after retirement.
Due to poverty and delay in payment, many retirees cannot afford a decent meal, good health care, good housing, among others after retirement. The intervention of the President will go a long way in bringing relief to retirees and hope for those who are still in active service. That is why I am pleading to the President to intervene.
He has shown that he is a leader with the capacity to solve problems. His intervention will go a long way in bringing relief to these people and hope for those who are still in active service.’’

Governor Makinde Visits Burnt Aleshinloye Market, Halts Planned Demolition Of Affected Section
Governor Makinde visits burnt Aleshinloye market, halts planned demolition of affected section. Mr Makinde said that his administration would restructure the market and ensure proper architecture to avert recurrence.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday visited the Aleshinloye market, Ibadan, where a section got burnt on March 12.
Mr Makinde, while on-the-spot assessment of the incident, ordered suspension of the planned demolition of the burnt section until a proper alternative had been provided for the affected traders.
Recall that the fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of March 12, at the plastic and rubber section of the market, which destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
The governor made it known that his administration had provided some sort of palliatives to serve as immediate cushion for victims of the incident.

Oyo Gov. Makinde
He added that the state government, the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area and the Ibadan South Local Council Development Area would work on cushioning effect of the incident on traders in the next few days.
He, however, said that his administration would restructure the market, put in place a proper architecture that could avert future fire outbreaks.
“We have to enlighten the people. It is better to avoid anything that can lead to fire incident than to curtail it. So, the advocacy should be that people should store things, especially things with potential to get burnt with utmost caution,” he added.

Contractors, Skill Labourers Praise Governor Eno For Contract Boom In Akwa Ibom

Contractors, Skill Labourers Praise Governor Eno For Contract Boom In Akwa Ibom
Contractors, skill labourers praise governor Eno for contract boom in Akwa Ibom…we now struggle to find skill labourers says private contractors.
Pastor Umo Eno’s infrastructure development is creating a buzz in Akwa Ibom State, with workers praising the Governor for a contract boom across the 31 local government areas of the State
Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Eno’s administration has been focused on implementing the ARISE Agenda which envisions a vibrant, inclusive, diversified, and highly industrialized economy with lifelong opportunities for the improvement of social welfare conditions and broadly-shared prosperity.
Some skilled labourers in Uyo who spoke with journalists yesterday, praised Governor Eno’s administration for its commitment to infrastructural development which has led to a surge in projects across the state.
Narrating the dividends of the Governor’s infrastructural revolution in the state, Aniefiok Udoh, a skilled carpenter working at the site of the ongoing Ewet luxury estate in Uyo, said:
“Governor Eno’s administration has been a blessing to us. Before now, we used to stand at the labour market along four lanes without jobs, but since Governor Eno assumed office, we now move from one site to the other. We have never had it so good. The numerous construction projects have provided us with good paying jobs and steady income”.
Also speaking, Enobong Johnson, a skilled mason recounted his gains: “private contractors used to pay us between three and four thousand naira per day, but since we started working with Government contractors, we smile home with at least eight thousand naira every day. May God bless our dear Governor.”
Meanwhile, facts-finding tours to some construction sites within Uyo metropolis revealed that over 500 skilled labourers are currently engaged by Western Legacy, contractors handling the Ewet luxury garden while over 600 workers often spotted at the different departments of the ongoing Arise park handled by Buletin construction Nigeria Limited.
Similarly, over 1,000 skilled labourers were also spotted at the sites of the ongoing dualization project of Uyo village road, dualization of the new Ring road from Idoro road to Ibiono Ibom and at the Elderly Citizens center handled by Amitec Construction Limited, Hensek Integrated services and U & K Nigeria limited, respectively.
On the flip side of this development, the contract boom has also had an unintended consequence on non-government contractors who are now struggling to find skilled labourers.

Skill Labourers Praise Governor Eno
“Many of our skilled labourers have been lured away by government contracts.” Said Mr Ekpo, the MD of build box Nigeria, a private contractor.
“Government contractors seem to pay skilled labourers higher hence, we are finding it difficult to complete our projects on time, because of the shortage of skilled workers,” he added.
Without equivocation, there is no local government area in Akwa Ibom State today, that does not have at least one major road construction ongoing in addition to either a model primary school or a primary health center.
From the Arise Compassionate homes targeted at each of the 368 wards of the state, to other strategic housing development and aviation hub expansion, Akwa Ibom State can best be described as a construction site with Akwa Ibomites gainfully engaged as core professionals, skilled workers and suppliers of one building material or the other.
The contract boom in Akwa Ibom is a testament to Governor Eno’s commitment to infrastructural development and job creation.
As the state continues to experience growth and development, skilled labourers remain appreciative of the opportunities provided by Governor Eno’s administration, with several other projects still lined up for flag-off in view.
