Governor Muhammad Bago of Niger has called on security agencies to ensure adequate security across the state for a hitch-free Eid-el Fitr celebration.

Bago made the call while addressing thousands of Muslim Ummah that gathered for Eid-el Fitr prayers after the two rakaats prayers at the Minna Central Eid prayer ground on Sunday.

Represented by his deputy, Yakubu Garba, the governor said security agencies should not give room to any form of unrest in any part of the state, especially in Minna, the state capital.

He urged them to do their best to ensure an uninterrupted celebration for the good of all.

ICPC, NABTEB Join Forces To Fortify Exam Integrity In Edo State

In a decisive move to safeguard the credibility of Nigeria’s technical and vocational education, Edo State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) have pledged to deepen their collaborative efforts in the fight against examination malpractice and certificate fraud.

The renewed commitment emerged recently during a high-level courtesy visit by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) for Edo State, Barrister Adenekan Shogunle, fsi, and his delegation to the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr. Mohammed Aminu, at the Board’s headquarters in Benin City.

Barrister Shogunle, conveying the warm regards of ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, underscored the Commission’s unwavering dedication to forging strategic alliances that combat corruption and bolster institutional integrity. He emphasised that NABTEB occupies a pivotal role in cultivating the skilled workforce essential for national growth and economic advancement.

“Examination malpractice, certificate forgery, and other forms of academic fraud are not merely administrative infractions; they are fundamental threats to professional competence and public confidence,” Barrister Shogunle asserted.

The RACC elaborated on the ICPC’s three-pronged mandate: investigation and prosecution, public enlightenment, and corruption prevention through systematic scrutiny and reform. He noted that these instruments continue to be deployed effectively to promote transparency and accountability across public institutions.

Drawing on the Commission’s robust enforcement history, Barrister Shogunle cited landmark interventions including the closure of 62 unaccredited degree-awarding institutions, the dismantling of a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, rigorous verification of public officers’ academic credentials, and the prosecution of sexual predators within educational settings.

In his response, Dr. Mohammed Aminu outlined NABTEB’s statutory responsibilities, which encompass the administration of the National Technical Certificate (NTC), National Business Certificate (NBC), Advanced National Business and Technical Certificate examinations, Modular Trade Certificates, and the National Common Entrance Examinations for technical and vocational education.

Dr. Aminu reaffirmed the Board’s steadfast commitment to preserving the credibility of its assessments through technology-driven monitoring systems and sophisticated intelligence-gathering mechanisms during examination exercises.

In a significant development, the Registrar formally requested the ICPC’s assistance in conducting discreet, intelligence-led oversight of NABTEB examination centres nationwide. This initiative aims to detect and deter examination malpractice and other corrupt practices before they can undermine the

Furthermore, Dr. Aminu called upon the Commission to organise sensitisation programmes for NABTEB management and staff on anti-corruption legislation, professional ethics, integrity, and civic responsibility—measures designed to embed a culture of accountability within the Board’s institutional framework.

The meeting concluded with both organisations reaffirming their mutual commitment to promoting integrity, accountability, and excellence in Nigeria’s education system through sustained partnership and proactive anti-corruption measures.

Atiku Tells Tinubu: Stop Blaming Nigerians For Insecurity

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has knocked the President Bola Tinubu-led government over its handling of insecurity and economic hardship.

Atiku accused the Presidency of attempting to shift responsibility for the country’s worsening conditions onto the media and ordinary Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described as alarming recent remarks from the presidency suggesting that many kidnapping incidents occur because citizens ignore police warnings against travelling at night.

He argued that such reasoning amounted to an admission that Nigerians could only be safe for a limited part of the day.

“Is the presidency admitting that Nigerians can only be safe for a few hours of the day? Is this an official declaration that Africa’s largest economy has been reduced to an eight-hour economy where citizens must shut down their businesses, abandon legitimate travel, and retreat indoors once the sun sets?” Atiku asked.

Atiku said it was unacceptable for government officials to place the burden of security on citizens rather than on agencies responsible for protecting lives and property.

“The primary duty of any government is the protection of lives and property. Citizens do not surrender their freedoms in exchange for curfews imposed by fear,” he said.

He maintained that insecurity across the country was evident in the daily experiences of Nigerians and could not be dismissed as media exaggeration.

Atiku cited killings in Benue and Plateau states, bandit attacks in Zamfara, Katsina and Niger states, as well as recurring kidnappings and terrorism across several parts of the country.

“A trader travelling from Kano to Lagos, a businessman returning from Abuja to Kaduna, a farmer transporting produce to market, or a family embarking on a legitimate journey should not be blamed when criminals attack them. The blame belongs squarely where it should — on those charged with securing the country,” he said.

“A nation cannot prosper when its people are told that safety ends at sunset. Economies grow because people can move freely, trade freely, and conduct lawful activities without fear,” he stated.

Beyond insecurity, Atiku accused the administration of being disconnected from the economic realities facing Nigerians, saying hunger and hardship had become defining features of the current government.

According to him, rising food prices, worsening inflation, unemployment and declining purchasing power have left millions of families struggling to survive.

“The father who goes to bed wondering how to provide the next meal for his family does not need a newspaper report to confirm hardship,” he said.

He also faulted what he described as the presidency’s attempt to blame the media for highlighting insecurity and economic challenges, insisting that journalists were merely reporting realities already being experienced by citizens.

“Blaming journalists for reporting insecurity and hardship is like blaming a thermometer for a fever,” Atiku said.

He warned that governments lose credibility when they focus on managing narratives instead of addressing underlying problems.

“Nigeria does not need explanations for suffering. Nigeria needs solutions. Nigeria does not need lectures about perception. Nigeria needs results,” he added.

The statement comes amid growing public concern over the rising cost of living and persistent security challenges across parts of the country, issues that have dominated national discourse since the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira by the Tinubu-led government.
