Obi Reveals Why He Ran From PDP, LP, ADC To NDC, Accused Unnamed Politicians Of Causing Crises In Every Party He Joined

Asked to address criticism over why he repeatedly defected from “enduring political parties” instead of building them, Mr Obi cut in, saying, “How many political parties have I moved?”

The former Anambra governor accused certain politicians, whom he did not name, of stirring internal crises in every political party he joined.

“They go and put fire in this one; I went from PDP when things were no longer being done according to the rules, and I went to Labour, and they came there—same group of people—and they instituted fire on it and want me to stay there and get burnt,” he said. “I moved to ADC; since I went into the ADC, they carried the same fire and moved all over the place.”

“Why should I stay and build when they just want me to be burnt?” Mr Obi retorted when asked again why he couldn’t remain to build any of the parties he defected from.

On whether he would also dump the NDC should an internal crisis erupt, the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate stressed that he would remain in the party if “everything is conducive, if there is no problem.”

Mr Obi, who has often been accused of affiliating himself with platforms that would best serve his political interests, vowed to strengthen opposition parties if elected as president in 2027.

“What is happening in the NDC now, happening in PDP, happening in Labour, will never happen if I’m president of Nigeria,” he stated. “Anybody that tries to do it, even the judiciary, giving lots of rulings, you will see what will happen.”

To address insecurity bedevilling the country, Mr Obi promised to convene meetings of all opposition leaders where issues would be discussed.

The former Anambra governor defected from the PDP to the Labour Party in May 2022, citing “issues that are at variance with my persona and principles.” He contested the presidential election under the LP platform.

On December 31, 2025, he dumped the LP for the ADC, saying his decision was driven by a desire to build a coalition focused on rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges.

Four months later, he announced his exit from the ADC, dismissing claims of his desperation to become Nigeria’s president.

Dabiri-Erewa Urges Young Nigerians to Dream Big, Welcomes Returnees At Youth Engagement Programme

Speaking at a Youth Empowerment Summit programme which is part of 2026 National Diaspora Day, Dabiri-Erewa , noted that the event was designed to inspire and equip young people with the knowledge and motivation needed to become better leaders and responsible citizens.

She urged participants to take full advantage of the experiences and insights shared by the resource persons and panelists, stressing the importance of learning how to overcome challenges, develop leadership skills, and remain proud of their identity.

The NiDCOM Chairman recalled that some of the participants had attended similar capacity-building programmes in the past and had returned to share their success stories, demonstrating the positive impact of mentorship and empowerment initiatives.

As part of the programme, Dabiri-Erewa introduced two Nigerian returnees from South Africa who shared their personal experiences of resilience despite facing significant challenges abroad.

One of the returnees, a Chemical Engineering student, narrated how he combined his studies with running a successful tutoring business for more than 30 students weekly before circumstances forced him to return to Nigeria.

He expressed his desire to continue his education while pursuing opportunities in the power and petroleum sector, adding that although he missed the friendships he built in South Africa, he did not miss the discrimination and bureaucratic challenges he experienced there.

Another returnee, Mrs. Maria Adeyemi recounted the hardships she and her family endured in South Africa, including documentation challenges, financial loss, and prolonged separation from her husband. She expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government for facilitating their safe return to Nigeria through NiDCOM’s intervention.

Adeyemi also revealed her aspiration to establish a restaurant in Nigeria, promising to showcase her culinary skills and contribute meaningfully to the country’s hospitality industry.

Responding to their testimonies, Dabiri-Erewa assured the returnees that NiDCOM would continue to engage relevant stakeholders to support their aspirations and reintegration into society.

She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting youth development, supporting Nigerians in the diaspora and returnees, and creating opportunities that enable young Nigerians to realise their full potential.

Speaking in the same vein, the Group Managing Director of ARCO Group Plc, Engr. Alfred Okoigun has called on Nigerian youths to embrace innovation, integrity, and lifelong learning as essential tools for driving national development and transforming the country’s healthcare sector.

Information Minister Mohammed Idris Hails NTA’S New World Class Studio, Upgrade Of National Press Centre

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed satisfaction with the newly completed world-class television studio at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Headquarters and the ongoing upgrade of the National Press Centre, describing both projects as clear evidence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to modernising Nigeria’s public information infrastructure.

The Minister made the remarks on Monday after inspecting the facilities in Abuja. He said the investments form part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to reposition government-owned media organisations to deliver quality public service broadcasting and information to Nigerians.

“What we have seen today is the fulfilment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to modernise Nigeria’s public broadcasting facilities. This is one of the best studios in Nigeria and among the finest on the African continent,” the Minister said.

He noted that the newly completed NTA studio ranks among the best broadcast facilities in Africa and forms part of a broader investment programme across the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The Minister commended the management and staff of the NTA for supporting the transformation process, adding that the reforms extend beyond infrastructure to improved content, professionalism, innovation and human capacity development.

He said the ongoing procurement of modern broadcast equipment for NTA stations nationwide, alongside investments in other government media organisations, would significantly improve public service broadcasting across the country.

Idris also described the recently relaunched Digital Switch Over (DSO) programme as a major milestone that complements the ongoing modernisation of Nigeria’s broadcasting industry.

“The Digital Switch Over and the investments in modern broadcast infrastructure are opening a new chapter for Nigeria’s information sector. By the time this reform programme is completed, Nigerians will witness a truly transformed public broadcasting system.”

The Minister further disclosed that President Tinubu is equally committed to improving the welfare of workers in the information sector, stressing that the administration recognises the importance of investing in both infrastructure and personnel.

Following the inspection of the NTA facilities, the Minister visited the National Press Centre at Radio House, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing renovation.

He said the upgraded National Press Centre will become a modern media hub equipped with world-class facilities and high-speed internet connectivity to support journalists covering government activities and national events. “The National Press Centre must fulfil its mandate as Nigeria’s foremost media hub. It is being redesigned to provide journalists with a conducive environment and modern facilities to carry out their professional responsibilities effectively.”

The Minister urged the contractors to complete the project within schedule, noting that he would return for a final inspection before its commissioning.

He reiterated that the ongoing upgrades across government-owned media institutions reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening public communication, promoting credible information dissemination and repositioning Nigeria’s information sector to meet international standards.
