Nigeria Police Arrest Suspects Over Obi’s Convoy Blockade in Benue

The Benue State Police Command has arrested some people in connection with the blockade of the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, who disclosed this at a press conference held in Makurdi on Wednesday, did not give the number of those arrested.

According to the CP, the police officers deployed for the visit of the former governor of Anambra State acted in a professional and tactical manner to avoid an escalation that could have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.

While stating that the tactical decision taken by the command should not be mistaken for inaction, the CP said that Obi was subsequently safely escorted back to the airport.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Obi’s movement was obstructed by a group of persons, creating tension and a situation that could have degenerated into violence.

“At that point, the Police took a professional and tactical decision to avoid an escalation that could have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property. Mr. Obi was subsequently safely escorted back to the airport and departed the state peacefully.

The police boss, who said that the command remained a neutral and professional institution, added that every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement, irrespective of political affiliation, status or personal belief.

“No individual or group has the right to unlawfully obstruct another person’s movement,” he said.

The command assured the public that all those found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the police to conclude their investigation.

NiDCOM: Campaign of Calumny Against Dabiri-Erewa Leadership Will not Work

Our attention has been drawn to reports circulating on-line claiming there is no evidence of events organised by Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) in 2023 to the tune of about ₦200m cannot be proven. This is totally false and a campaign of calumny ahead of 2027 general elections.

A UK based group known as Global Integrity Watch , owned by one Comrade Abraham Taiwo Adewole, fronting for the group, had contacted NIDCOM on the allegation.

NIDCOM will revert to the National Assembly and the Auditor- General’s office for any information they require.

NIDCOM will unequivocally answer any questions it officially receives from the Auditor- General or NASS when invited.

For the records, NIDCOM events in 2023, for which support even had to be sought from sponsors, had five major events among which were Global African Diaspora Summit, (which attracted participation from 16 countries and subsequently named NIDCOM Chair as the OACPS champion) National Diaspora Day, National Diaspora Merit Award, Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit, Badagry Door of Return within Nigeria alone and several others in the diaspora.

For the avoidance of doubts, all the documents relating to the expenses incurred by the Commission are intact and will be made available to the necessary National Assembly Committees oversighting the Commission when called upon.

It should be pointed out here that the Global Integrity Watch (GIW), who is raising this false alarm was registered and launched in London on August 17, 2026 targeting and witch-hunting MDAs or certain personalities for political reasons. The company registered less than a month ago to carry out the following: Information technology consultancy activities, Management of real estate on a fee or contract basis, Travel agency activities, and specialised cleaning services, is apparently focused on blackmail and witch hunting.

When NIDCOM, an agency that has carried out its responsibilities diligently despite limited resources is invited by the appropriate authorities, it will provide all necessary documentation, but will certainly not succumb to social media blackmail.

Obi-Kwankwaso Movement Unveils Secretariat, Inaugurates Executives in Cross River

The OK Movement is a platform mobilising support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The event, held on Saturday in Calabar, was attended by party leaders and stakeholders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, coordinators from the 18 local government areas of the state and supporters who turned out despite the heavy downpour.

The National Convener of the movement, Jackie Wayas, said the turnout despite the weather demonstrated commitment to the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket, describing the unveiling of the state office as the beginning of a new direction for the people of Cross River State.

She said, “I bring greetings from His Excellency, Peter Obi and His Excellency Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso. Today marks the beginning of a new direction for the people of Cross River State. Come rain, come sunshine, we are here. We are here to reposition Nigeria.”

Wayas, while commending NDC supporters and Kwankwasiyya members, urged them to return to their polling units and wards to mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 election.

She said more votes for Obi and Kwankwaso would provide an opportunity for a new Nigeria.

“We need to go back to our wards and polling units to mobilize votes for Peter Obi and Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso. Any vote for them is for a new Nigeria. This is the hard work. It needs collective effort of all well-meaning OK Movement supporters,” Wayas said.

In his welcome address, the State Coordinator, Egwu Arong, said the unveiling of the secretariat would enhance organisation, coordination, documentation and grassroots mobilisation across wards and polling units.

“This secretariat is not merely a building, it is a working home for organization, coordination, documentation and grassroots mobilization. From this place, the voices of Cross River people will be gathered, their concerns structured, and their hope channeled into disciplined political action in support of our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi,” Arong said.

He said the movement in Cross River would focus on three pillars: clear coordination from the state to polling units; mobilisation and peaceful engagement of youths, women and the informal sector; and discipline and respect for law and order.

Arong charged members to register voters and “stand firmly with the NDC candidates”, saying the group would work to deliver Cross River State to the NDC.

On his part, the State Chairman of the NDC, Goddy Akpama, said the party was prepared for the general election, stressing that it would field credible candidates who would seek to improve the country’s economic situation through strategic reforms and development initiatives at the state and federal levels.

“Nigerians are waiting for good governance. When there’s a good government in place, the people rejoice. Today, you walk on the streets, you can hardly see a Nigerian smiling, because Nigeria is not yet okay.

“What we did in 2023, we will do in 2027, but this time we will ensure, physically, that those votes that you cast will result in good governance because we are going to the race with credible candidates who will transform the country’s economic situation with strategic reforms and development initiatives at both state and federal levels,” he said.

The Cross River Deputy Governorship Candidate of the NDC, Stella Archibong, urged members to translate their enthusiasm into votes, adding that the time was not for mere talks but for action.

“The new Nigeria is possible. This is not the time to talk too much, but the time to put action more than words. Our vote is our power. It is time to use our votes rightly. From the presidency down to the least office, let us go out there and vote NDC all the way,” she said.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Cletus Amawu, in his vote of thanks, thanked the national and state leadership for the opportunity and promised vigilance during the elections.

“We have listened to all speakers that have spoken. It is not just enough. We will vote. We will count. And our vote will count,” Amawu said.
