Akwa Ibom LG chairman proposed Lagos-Calabar coastal road Corridor. To ensure the protection and conservation of the environment and natural resources including human health aspects, the Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong joined other stakeholders from five Local Government Areas; Akampa, Odukpani, Uruan, Nsit Atai and Okobo to interface with the Federal Ministry of Environment on the proposed Lagos-Calabar coastal road corridor.
This is in line with the provisions of the EIA Act CAP E12 LFN 2004 which makes EIA mandatory for all major developmental projects to constitute a panel, review and report on the Environmental impact of the project.
The panel was made up of experts and regulators from Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, as well as the Nigerian Conservation Foundation and the Federal Ministry of Environment and works.

On the draft EIA report, Barr. Iquo Abia, ESQ, from the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Environment & Mineral Resources and the Cross River State Ministry of Environment, Mr. Eni Enya Bassey of the Nigeria Conservation Foundation, and Dr. Akin George of Geotechnical/Geology, provided comments.
In attendance: Hon. Minister of Environment; Balarabe Abbas Lawal represented by Mr. Shittu Hussain, Panel Chairman, Dr. John Alonge, Chairman of Okobo; Hon. George Henshaw, and Chairman of Nsit Atai; Hon. Anthony Luke.
Other Participants are Paramount Rulers, Village Heads, Opinion & youth leaders, and dignitaries from the Federal Ministry of Works & environment, among others.

Umo Eno Expresses Satisfaction With Progress At Ibom Model Farm
Umo Eno expresses satisfaction with progress at Ibom Model Farm. Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has expressed satisfaction at the progress of work at the Ibom Model Farm.
This was his assessment on Friday 28, March 2025, during an unscheduled visit to the farm located in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
In his interaction with Government House Correspondents shortly after his tour of the farm, he said “I am happy with the level of work they have done so far.
“To develop a farm of this magnitude is not a day’s work. You can see that the crops are coming up, the road network is done, and the drainages have been put in place.
He said the State government has set modalities in place to move into the next phase of the construction which will involve building of residential apartments for the farm managers and other categories of workers and urged the contractors to sustain the pace of the construction.
“I believe that now is the time to bring in contractors who will be building the facilities – the dormitory, resident farm manager apartments, and others. In fact, I am satisfied with the progress of work accomplished so far,” he stated.
On her part, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Offiong Offor, who conducted the Governor round the farm, assured that the project will be completed as scheduled.
She explained that they will take advantage of the rainy season to cultivate other crops and nurture the farm having had the farm properly irrigated during the dry season.

“We have already irrigated the farm. So, we are going to use that irrigation to support the crops we are growing here. We are working assiduously to ensure that the farm produces as expected.
The Governor was accompanied during the inspection by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson, Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, his Lands counterpart, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (Retd), Commissioner for Information, Mr Aniekan Umanah and some of his personal Aides.

The 23.25km Ikot Ekaide-Ikot Okoro-Ikot Ibritam road has been officially commissioned, marking a major economic breakthrough for the people of Oruk Anam and other parts of the State.
Inaugurating the road infrastructure, Governor Umo Eno emphasized the economic viability of the road, stating that he was moved to complete the project which he took over from his predecessor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, at 50% completion.
Lauding the immediate past Governor for l starting the project during his tenure, Pastor Eno has also assured that more inherited projects will be completed by his administration.
The road which comes with two bridges, is expected to boost trade and economic activities, and open up the largely agrarian communities in Oruk Anam.
He acknowledged the significance of Oruk Anam, and highlighted the locality’s importance, being the hometown of his Chief Campaigner and the wife of the immediate past Governor, Deaconess Martha Udom Emmanuel.
Recalling previous efforts, he mentioned the completion of the Use Ikot Amama road in Ibiono, initiated by the Senate President. He emphasized that projects like these demonstrate the tangible benefits of governance and the impact of public service.
Speaking further, the Governor announced upcoming projects, including the groundbreaking of the Tropicana International Conference Centre and reiterated the administration’s commitment to reviving stalled projects to create job oppourtunities for the youth.
He reassured the public that despite the extensive infrastructure projects being executed, his administration has not borrowed from any financial institution and applauded the Federal Government for making funds available and highlighted his government’s prudent financial management as a key factor in sustaining developmental projects.
Eno expressed his administration’s commitment to private sector-minded governance, urging young people to take advantage of the opportunities available.
He also assured that his government is youth-friendly and willing to support those who are ready to contribute to the state’s development.
Earlier, the Chairman of Oruk-Anam, Sunday Festus Akpan, commended the Governor for the project and other ongoing infrastructure developments in the area.
Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, provided an overview of the project, highlighting its technical details and the challenges faced during its construction, and how the project had to be segmented and reawarded to two different contractors.
In their goodwill message, stakeholders in the area including the House of Representatives Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk-Anam Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Unyime Etim, Paramount Ruler of Oruk-Anam, Akuku Engr. J. J. Abosi, Political Leader of Oruk-Anam, Sir. Udo Kieran, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, and the House of Assembly Member for Oruk-Anam State Constituency, Hon. Sampson Idiong, hailed the road project as a game-changer for the local government and neighboring areas, providing access to Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia and other States in the Niger-Delta region.

They asserted that the infrastructure is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of the people of the area, and pledged their total to the government of Pastor Umo Eno.
In furtherance of their corporate social responsibility, one the construction firm handling the project, Amitec Construction Company said it is committed to constructing water projects in each of the villages traversed by the road and also announced the sponsorship of Akwa Ibom youths in the Dakadda Skills Acquisition Centre in addition to the donation of 50,000 copies of exercise books to schools in the State.
