Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has received new recognition from Guinness World Records, making her a three-time record holder.
Ms Baci said she discovered that while she and her team broke the record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, they had also set the record for the largest serving of rice overall, a title she had been unaware of until she checked her email on Tuesday.
She said, “Woke up a three-time Guinness World Records holder and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. Five months after the initial record announcement, I was just finding out that there was more… what I thought was one record turned out to be two.”
The achievement was on September 12, 2025, when Ms Baci and her team prepared 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz) of Nigerian jollof rice.
The food produced was enough for 16,600 portions, all distributed in line with Guinness World Records’ rules to prevent food waste.
GWR, confirming the record on their website, said, “The largest serving of rice is 8,780kg (19356 Ib, 9 oz) and was achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino (all Nigerian), in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, on 12 September 2025.”

The organisation added that the record title was “achieved while attempting the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice”.
Ms Baci credited her team and close collaborators for the feat.
“The very first person I called was @oreoluwa_atinmo, because this journey, this vision, and this record would not have been possible without her. Honestly, God is faithful. This feels like such a beautiful reminder that even when you think you’ve seen the full picture, God can still say, ‘There’s more’,” she stated.

Attah International Airport: Committee Moves To Activate April Take-Off Date
Attah International Airport: Committee moves to activate April take-off date. Hope for the full activation of the recently approved international status of the Victor Attah International Airport (VAIA) received a major boost on Monday as the Committee on the Actualisation of the Airport’s International Status conducted a comprehensive inspection of facilities, ahead of the planned commencement of international flight operations in April.
The inspection covered critical infrastructure and operational areas, including the access road, terminal building, apron, taxiway, security perimeter fencing, IP intelligence security cameras, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, vegetation clearing, as well as the transformer area and medium voltage power panels, among others.
Speaking after the exercise, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman of the Committee, Prince Enobong Uwah, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the airport, noting that the current level of progress gives confidence that the April timeline for international operations will be achieved.
Prince Uwah explained that following the inauguration of the committee by Governor Umo Eno on January 5, the inspection became imperative to assess readiness across key operational areas, identify infrastructure gaps, and ensure timely interventions to guarantee a seamless take-off of international flights.
He assured that the committee would maintain continuous oversight through periodic inspections until all components of the project are fully completed. The SSG commended contractors handling various aspects of the project, including VKS, Premium Construction Company and others, for the speed and quality of work delivered so far, while urging them to intensify efforts to meet set deadlines.
Addressing the committee during the inspection, Engr. Oliver Ebong of VKS, the firm handling the international terminal, highlighted areas requiring urgent attention to ensure full completion of the facility and assured that work on the terminal would be concluded by the end of March.
