African Students Union Parliament Applaud Olukoyede’s Successes in Fight against Corruption
The African Students Union Parliament on Friday, August 21, 2026, commended the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, for his leadership and efforts in the fight against corruption and economic crimes in Nigeria.

The students presented Olukoyede with the Pan-African Leadership Hall of Fame Award as Africa’s Patriotic Icon of Integrity and Leadership during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters.
Speaking on behalf of the delegates, the Nigerian representative of ASUP, Comrade James Uneze, said the honour was in recognition of Olukoyede’s contributions to nation building and his efforts to tackle economic and cybercrimes.
Uneze, who is a student of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, said the students had closely followed the EFCC Chairman’s record in the fight against “economic crimes, cyber fraud and financial crimes”, adding that his leadership had made an impact on Nigerians.
“We share in your remarkable characteristics, visions, and quest for positive national development,” he said.
He described the EFCC Chairman as a role model whose efforts had given hope to Nigerians affected by financial crimes and economic hardship.
“Today, we have a man of integrity, a man with confidence in the person of Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman who is fighting immensely to ensure that Nigeria attains its economic glory. He is fighting corruption, financial crime, and also recovering stolen funds and properties to ensure that the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President is achieved,” Uneze stated.
The student leader said the award was also connected to the union’s campaigns against cyber fraud, drug abuse, proliferation of small arms and light weapons and other social problems threatening African youths.
He said the organisation believed that young Africans must be actively involved in building a better continent.
“Today, we are not fighting for independence, though we frown at and condemn the act of racism. But what we are doing in our own corner is reintroducing or rearticulating the concept of Pan-Africanism and Pan-Africanism for us is the development of Africa by Africans and for Africa,” he said.
The award plaque presented to Olukoyede described him as “Africa’s patriotic icon of integrity and leadership” and recognised his “immense contributions to nation building,” patriotism, economic and human capital development, renewal of the Pan-Africanism ideology and promotion of peace across racial, national and religious boundaries.
Receiving the award on behalf of the EFCC Chairman, the Head of the Commission’s Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, Assistant Commander of EFCC, ACE II Aisha Mohammed, said the recognition was an indication that the commission’s efforts were being noticed and appreciated by young Africans.
Mohammed stressed that collaboration remained central to the EFCC’s operations, noting that the Commission could not effectively tackle corruption and other societal challenges alone.
“You cannot talk about EFCC without collaboration. It is part of our core values. We collaborate and we are open to collaboration. Nobody can do it alone,” she said.

She noted that Olukoyede also serves as Chairman of the Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa, NACIWA, describing the award as “timely”.
“EFCC has collaboration and relationships with all anti-corruption agencies across Africa and even internationally. Just like I mentioned, collaboration is part of our core values,” she said.
She assured the delegation that the EFCC would continue to collaborate with stakeholders, particularly young people, in the fight against corruption and other social vices.
The delegation comprised students from various African countries including Nigeria, Cameroon, and Côte d’ Ivorie.

IGP Disu Receives ICAN Leadership, Seeks Stronger Collaboration on Forensic Accounting and Financial Crime
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 21st August, 2026, received the President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, FCA, and her delegation at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, during a courtesy visit focused on strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Institute.

The ICAN President congratulated the IGP on his appointment and commended the priority areas of accountability, modernisation and institutional reform being pursued under his leadership.
The delegation, which included the Registrar/Chief Executive, Dr. Lanre Olasunkanmi; Chairman, ICAN Abuja District, Mr. Emeka Okoroeze; and Mr. Adamu Yusuf, FCA, discussed the growing complexity of financial and economic crimes and the need for stronger technical capacity in forensic accounting and financial investigations.
ICAN proposed structured collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, including forensic accounting certification programmes for Police investigators, specialised training for detectives and opportunities for cadets of the Police Academy to acquire the Accounting Technician Scheme for West Africa (ATSWA) certification.
The engagement also explored the development of a dedicated Police-ICAN response mechanism for high-profile financial fraud cases, leveraging professional accounting expertise to strengthen investigation, evidence development and prosecution of complex financial crimes.
The IGP welcomed the proposed partnership, noting that modern policing requires specialised knowledge and strategic collaboration with professional institutions. He also proposed a joint awareness campaign by the NPF and ICAN to educate businesses and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) on fraud prevention, early detection and responsible financial practices.

Nigerian Navy Ready for Tougher Crackdown on Piracy, Oil Theft in Cross River
The Nigerian Navy has vowed to sustain stronger operations against piracy, sea robbery, crude oil theft, illegal oil bunkering, smuggling and other forms of maritime criminality in Cross River State.

The Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chiedozie Okehie, made this known on Thursday during the closing ceremony of the three-day maiden Intra-Command Maritime Tactical Live Firing Exercise, codenamed Exercise Littoral Fury, held in Cross River State.
Okehie said the exercise was designed to expose naval personnel to realistic operational situations and improve their ability to respond rapidly and effectively to maritime security threats.
He said the exercise would also strengthen joint and coordinated responses among security agencies operating within the maritime environment.
According to him, the littoral environment presents unique operational challenges that require specialised skills, appropriate tactics, effective communication and seamless coordination among security agencies.

The Eastern Naval Command chief added that the command had continued to leverage technology, innovation and intelligence-driven operations to enhance its capacity to detect and respond to maritime crimes.
Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, said the exercise demonstrated the Navy’s operational readiness, tactical agility and discipline.
Ibrahim said the exercise was part of efforts to develop a modern, agile and professional naval force capable of protecting Nigeria’s maritime interests and advancing national security objectives.
He said the exercise enabled participating gunboats, air assets and operational units to test their weapon systems, improve inter-service communication and validate joint littoral manoeuvre doctrines.
According to him, realistic training remained essential to maintaining maritime dominance and ensuring that naval personnel remained mission-ready.
Ibrahim said the location of the exercise at Dayspring Island was significant, noting that the area was previously one of the biggest militant camps but had now been occupied by the Navy.
He said the Navy’s presence would improve the security of lives and property and boost commercial activities around the Calabar and Dayspring channels, including the waterways leading towards Cameroon.
“By the presence of the Navy here, it’s going to increase commerce; it will provide safety of lives and property,” Ibrahim stated.
He added that improved security would increase confidence among residents, facilitate commerce and potentially generate more revenue for the Federal Government.
Ibrahim said the exercise also provided an opportunity for personnel to train with different weapons, ranging from 9mm pistols to automatic grenade launchers, as they simulated scenarios encountered during maritime patrols.
He urged the personnel to apply the lessons learnt during the exercise to their daily patrols and operational duties.
Navy Captain Mohammed Lawal commended the leadership of the Eastern Naval Command and participating personnel for the successful conduct of the exercise.

Lawal said the exercise demonstrated tactical operational readiness, precision marksmanship and maritime power projection across land and sea environments.
He also commended sister services, security agencies, umpires, local organisers and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force’s 305 Special Mobility Group for their contributions to the exercise.
According to him, participating officers and ratings demonstrated weapon proficiency, physical endurance and tactical discipline throughout the exercise.

IGP Disu Unveils Three-Day Youth Leadership and Security Programme
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, Thursday, 20th August 2026, actively participated in the opening day of the National Youth Leadership and Security Dialogue in Abuja, marking the commencement of a three-day programme organised to commemorate International Youth Day 2026 under the National Youth Security and Peacebuilding Initiative.

The three-day programme, scheduled to run from 20th to 22nd August 2026, is themed “Different Contents, Common Aspiration”, is designed to promote youth inclusion, peacebuilding, innovation, and responsible citizenship. Day One focused on Youth Leadership, Security and National Development, with engagements on national security, digital responsibility, civic participation, entrepreneurship, cybersecurity, innovation, and mental health.
In his remarks, the IGP urged young Nigerians to reject political violence, criminal manipulation, and digital thuggery, stressing that no political ambition is worth the future of any Nigerian youth. He charged them to choose peace, leadership, innovation, and responsible citizenship over violence, hate, misinformation, and other forms of destructive conduct.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting democratic participation, securing communities, and partnering with young people and relevant stakeholders to build a safer and more peaceful society. He noted that the dialogue provides a platform for youths to contribute meaningfully to national development and democratic stability.
The programme drew participation from government representatives, development partners, youth leaders, the Police Officers’ Wives Association, the Police Community Relations Committee, civil society groups, and other stakeholders.
