ADC Raises Alarm Over Online Collection Of PVC Details In Lagos
ADC raises alarm over online collection of PVC details in Lagos. He stressed that voter mobilisation must be lawful, transparent and respectful of citizens’ rights.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Lagos State chapter, has cautioned residents against submitting images or details of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to political groups or unauthorised persons.
The party gave the warning in a statement issued on by its directorate of communication and signed by Oluwasegun Adekayero,on Thursday in Lagos.
Mr Adekayero said the party had observed a circulating announcement asking residents, especially in Lagos Mainland, to send clear PVC photographs through WhatsApp for political mobilisation.
He described the request as unsafe and potentially harmful to voter privacy and democratic integrity.
“ADC considers it necessary, in the interest of public safety and democratic integrity, to caution Lagosians against sharing sensitive personal information with partisan groups.
“The Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is a personal and confidential electoral document issued by INEC and contains sensitive information that must be protected at all times.
“Indiscriminate collection of PVC images through informal channels raises serious concerns about data privacy, voter protection and possible misuse of citizens’ personal information,” Mr Adekayero said.
He stressed that voter mobilisation must be lawful, transparent and respectful of citizens’ rights.
According to him, political participation should build confidence and trust rather than fear, coercion or undue pressure.

ADC
Mr Adekayero advised residents to safeguard their PVCs and avoid sharing copies through unsecured digital platforms.
He also urged citizens to report suspicious requests for voter information to appropriate authorities.
Mr Adekayero reiterated the party’s commitment to issue-based politics and credible democratic processes in the state.
He said ADC would continue to prioritise civic education, policy dialogue and lawful grassroots engagement instead of collecting private voter data.
He added that democracy thrives when citizens are informed, protected and respected.

Residents of the Mpape community in the Bwari council have appealed for the immediate resumption of work on the abandoned Mpape Road project.
The residents made the appeal on Friday in a letter addressed to FCT minister Nyesom Wike, describing the road as the only major access route into Mpape District.
“It is also a critical link to other parts of the FCT,” the residents said in the letter.
Donatus Shekwolo, who signed the letter on behalf of the Mpape residents, commended the ongoing infrastructure reforms across the territory and urged the minister not to forget the area.
“The suspension of the Mpape Road project has continued to inflict hardship on residents and commuters.
“The road’s deplorable condition has led to daily gridlock, prolonged travel time and frequent vehicle breakdowns. Transportation costs have risen, while safety risks increase during the rainy season.
“Mpape hosts an estimated 500,000 residents, including civil servants, artisans and traders contributing to Abuja’s economy,” Mr Shekwolo said in the letter.
Mr Shekwolo noted that the area accommodates the Julius Berger Nigeria Plc quarry site, which supports construction activities across Abuja.
“The presence of heavy-duty trucks, alongside commercial and private vehicles, places enormous pressure on the damaged road,” said Mr Shekwolo.
He said, on behalf of the residents, that constant interaction between trucks and smaller vehicles has worsened the road’s deterioration and heightened accident risks.

Road projects
“Several houses and businesses were demolished to pave the way for the project, and many families remain displaced, while portions of land were left exposed and unsafe.
“Completing the road will enhance mobility, economic activities, security and emergency response services. The minister should intervene and ensure the immediate resumption and timely completion of this project,” the letter stated.

Cross River Tricycle Riders Protest Extortion, Multiple Taxation
Cross River Tricycle Riders Protest Extortion, Multiple Taxation
Cross River tricycle riders protest extortion, multiple taxation. The tricycle operators claimed they were being compelled to pay unexplained levies at different locations within the city.
Tricycle operators in Cross River State on Thursday picketed the streets of the Calabar metropolis to protest alleged extortion, multiple taxation, and harassment by ticket agents and task force groups.
The tricycle operators, popularly known as “Keke Riders,” claimed they were being compelled to pay unexplained levies at different locations within the city.
One of them, Johnson Obi, told journalists that they were forced to buy multiple tickets from sanitation, local government, and union agents.
“Some of the tickets expire within hours. The tickets are too many; riders purchase up to six or seven different tickets daily,” he said.
Mr Obi further said tricycle operators were compelled to even buy ‘burial tickets’ issued through union channels, saying, “Defaulters risk having their tricycles seized.”
Another rider, Emmanuel Asuquo, told journalists during the protest that some groups controlling passenger loading points collected taxes from operators.
He said riders who refused to comply were often prevented from operating in certain areas.
“It is even annoying that some of the groups collecting these taxes are linked to non-government groups,” he said.
He urged the state government to investigate the activities of those involved in the illegal collection of taxes from tricycle operators.
When contacted, Ekpenyong Akiba, the special adviser to the governor on general duties, commended the operators for conducting themselves peacefully during the protest.

Cross River Tricycle Riders Protest
Mr Akiba said the government had taken note of their complaints and would present the issues to the governor for action.
He announced an immediate suspension of all ticketing and task force activities affecting tricycle operators pending further directive from the state government.
Mr Akiba also invited representatives of the tricycle operators to a meeting with state government officials.
Commercial bus drivers in Calabar recently embarked on a similar protest.
