Tinubu appoints Bishop Kukah as pro-chancellor of Federal University of Applied Science, Kachia. President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.

Bayo Onanuga, the president’s spokesman, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Monday.

The president also appointed Qurix Barnabas as Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as bursar, and Daniel Abubakar as university librarian.

Mr Tinubu also approved the appointment of Thomas Etuh, representing the North Central, Fabian Nwaora (South East), Femi Taiwo (South West) and Zarah Bukar (North East). as members of the university’s Governing Council.

“All the appointees were carefully selected based on their careers, leadership experience, and dedication to advancing education in Nigeria.

“President Tinubu implored them to use their collective expertise to position the university as a hub for academic excellence and research, aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” said the statement.

Mr Tinubu urged the newly appointed officers to provide visionary leadership and lay a solid foundation for the university’s growth as it prepared to admit its first set of students in September.
The Federal University of Applied Sciences was formerly known as Nok University.

It was renamed following the federal government’s takeover of its assets.

NYSC To Pay Corps Members N77,000 Monthly From March Says DG

NYSC to pay Corps members N77,000 monthly from March says DG. The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has announced that corps members will receive an increased monthly allowance of N77,000 starting March 2025.

Speaking in Abuja, Nafiu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to corps members’ welfare, assuring them of timely payments.

He praised the NYSC’s role in promoting national unity and urged members to remain dedicated and disciplined.

“With effect from March, you will receive Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance. The nation and the scheme appreciate your service,” he stated.

Corps members expressed gratitude for the increment, commending the NYSC management for its efforts.

Akwa Ibom LG chairman flag off distribution of educational materials to pupils. Primary school pupils in the Ikot Ekpene Local Government has received educational materials.

The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom who performed the exercise said, this was to reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing the educational development of the area and fulfilling his campaign promises, revealing education as a core priority of his administration.

Hon. Aniefiok Nkom flaged-off the distribution exercise to pupils at Methodist Primary School, Mbiaso today, 19th March 2025.

Hon. Nkom who said the distribution has been programmed in batches, assured that, the distribution would cover the thirty-six primary schools in the local government area, extended the distribution of the educational materials to two schools at the current phase.

Schools benefiting at the initial batch were, Methodist Primary School, Mbiaso and African Apostolic Central Schools, Esa Atan.

Expressing his commitment towards ensuring that indigent school pupils are provided with educational materials, Hon. Nkom said, this will promote school attendance and retention of the most vulnerable children through the delivery of basic school supplies. He added that the exercise will also create avenue to access quality education, and enhancing learning outcomes.

He revealed that, playgrounds will be situated in schools to improving and enhancing extra curricular activities such as sports and games in addition to academic skills.

Presenting the essential educational materials—such as exercise books, school uniforms, school sandals, the Chairman urged school children to pay attention to lessons they are taught by their teachers and keep cleanliness saying, cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Hon. Nkom commended the heads and teachers in the visited schools for performing their duties diligently and urged them to train the children with the objective to turn up responsible citizens for a better society.

He lauded the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for committing to the growth of children, particularly in the area of offering quality education in line with the A.R.I.S.E Agenda.

In their separate welcome address, the Head Teachers, Mrs. Mercy Ofum, and Mrs. Idongesit Uboh, commended the Chairman for his continued support as they also emphasized and appreciated the efforts of the council chairman which they said, would enhance the quality of education in the local government area.

Those who accompanied the Chairman were the wife of the Chairman, Mrs. Affiong Nkom; Vice Chairman, Obonganwan Abigail Akpan; Deputy Leader, Hon. Affiong Udo; Council Secretary, Mr. Unyime Akpan, councillors, supervisors and special advisers, directors among others.

New Minimum Wage: NYSC To Spend N307.6bn On Corps Members’ Allowances

New Minimum Wage: NYSC to Spend N307.6bn on corps members’ allowances. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is projected to spend approximately N307.6 billion on the mobilisation and payment of allowances to corps members, following an increase in their stipends from N33,000 to N77,000.

The allowance hike, announced by the NYSC in September 2024, came after the signing of the new minimum wage bill into law in May 2024.

With NYSC mobilising an estimated 333,000 corps members annually across three batches—A, B, and C—the total payment per batch stands at N25.64 billion, amounting to N307.6 billion yearly.

In the 2025 budget proposal, the Federal Government allocated N430.7 billion to NYSC, the highest in five years, with N372.9 billion (86.5%) designated for corps members’ allowances.

However, five months after the announcement, the new N77,000 allowance is yet to be implemented.

The NYSC’s acting Director of Press and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, stated that the scheme was still awaiting the necessary cash backing.

Meanwhile, newly appointed NYSC Director-General, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, reportedly assured corps members that payments would commence in March.
