Caleb Mutfwang Scrambles To Appease Jos Residents After Bandits’ Attack

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has directed security operatives to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on motorcycle operations within the Jos metropolis in a bid to assuage angry locals.

Mr Mutfwang, who gave the directive during a statewide broadcast on Tuesday in Jos, stressed that his government was resolute against any form of intimidation.

Bandits attacked Angwan-Rukuba, a community in Jos, on Sunday, leaving deaths and destruction in their wake. Twenty-eight people, including women, children and students, were killed in the attack.

While commiserating with residents, the governor said, “It is with a heavy heart and profound sorrow that I address you today, not only as your governor, but also as your son and brother who shares in your anguish following the tragic incident at Angwan-Rukuba. This unfortunate event led to the loss of 28 innocent lives and left many others injured.

“As a government, we share deeply in the grief of the bereaved families and pray that almighty God grants them and the state the strength, comfort, and grace to bear these painful losses. In furtherance of our commitment to strengthening security, we have convened a State Security Council meeting to review and reinforce our security architecture, ensuring it becomes more proactive and responsive to emerging threats.

“Consequently, I direct security agencies to strictly enforce the law banning commercial motorcycle operators (Okada) within the Jos Greater Master Plan. The commissioner of police will issue detailed guidelines in this regard.”

Mr Mutfwang, who reaffirmed his stance against all forms of insecurity, assured residents that his government would not cower in the face of intimidation and urged all to remain law-abiding, as the government was doing all it could to secure the state.

“Despite this breach of security, I want to assure you that Plateau state will not succumb to fear or intimidation. We shall emerge stronger, united, and resolute in our faith and commitment to peace. We must deploy every available resource to defend our people, protect lives and property, and safeguard the territorial integrity of our state. Plateau shall remain strong and peaceful.

“I want to commend the community leaders, youths, and residents of Angwan-Rukuba, as well as the wider Plateau populace, for their restraint and refusal to retaliate even in the face of provocation. Your maturity and commitment to peace are deeply appreciated.

”Let me assure you that every necessary measure is being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and safeguard lives and property across the state,” the governor added.

Tinubu Commiserate With Bereaved Families In Plateau, Pray For Quick Recovery

“President Tinubu urge our security agencies to be more proactive in preventing these attacks by acting on early warning intelligence”.

PRESIDENT TINUBU CONDEMNS KILLINGS IN PLATEAU AND KADUNA, ASSURES SECURITY AGENCIES WILL BRING PERPETRATORS TO JUSTICE

President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the barbaric and cowardly attacks by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district, Jos, Plateau State.

He equally condemned the attacks in Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Describing the attack on the community in Jos and the killing and abduction of wedding guests in Kaduna as an affront to all that Nigeria stands for, President Tinubu assured Nigerians that the barbaric acts will not go unpunished.

“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village, is a heartless coward. By attacking soft targets in Jos, their objective is not only to cause harm but also trigger a spiral of reprisal attacks and further bloodletting,” he said.

He has directed security agencies to intensify all efforts to pursue the perpetrators and those spreading misinformation that can inflame tensions and further endanger lives. He cautioned some sections of the media, insinuating the attacks were religiously motivated.

President Tinubu reaffirmed that security agencies are actively addressing the situation and stressed that public cooperation is vital to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property. He stressed the need for communities to comply with evacuation, relocation, and related advice and processes. He hailed the safe return of two of the Kaduna victims.

“I urge our security agencies to be more proactive in preventing these attacks by acting on early warning intelligence. All the remaining abductees from Kahir village must be rescued immediately”, the president said.

Our government is currently acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable our security agencies to track and smash criminals, in real time, wherever they are.”

NAF Reinforces Air Power Through Advanced Technical Training On Agusta Westland AW109 Trekker Helicopter

Agusta Westland. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has further strengthened its operational readiness following the successful completion of a six-week specialist training programme on the AW109 Trekker helicopter at the Leonardo Helicopters facility in Italy.

Undertaken under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the initiative underscores the Service’s deliberate commitment to building a technically proficient and self-reliant force capable of sustaining modern air operations.

The programme extended beyond routine instruction, providing personnel with intensive hands-on exposure to advanced maintenance procedures, system diagnostics, and the management of critical aircraft subsystems.

These competencies are pivotal to improving aircraft serviceability, reducing mission downtime, and ensuring sustained fleet availability across diverse operational environments. In contemporary air operations, such technical expertise remains a decisive enabler of mission success, particularly in counterinsurgency, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), and rapid mobility missions where responsiveness is critical.

Having completed the training, the personnel have since been redeployed to operational units, where their expertise will immediately enhance fleet performance and mission effectiveness across theatres of operation. Their contribution will strengthen the Nigerian Air Force’s capacity for faster, more reliable responses to emerging threats and the continued protection of Nigeria’s airspace.
