Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan hails INEC for rejecting recall attempt, takes swipe at Yahaya Bello. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for dismissing the recall petition against her, describing it as a failed attempt by sponsored individuals to undermine democracy.

INEC, on Thursday, ruled that the recall effort failed to meet constitutional requirements and would not proceed.

Reacting, Akpoti-Uduaghan declared that “anti-democratic forces”, including former Governor Yahaya Bello, had been defeated.

She credited God and the unwavering support of Kogi Central residents for the outcome, stating that INEC upheld justice despite pressure from political forces.

She further mocked her opponents, saying their “days in politics are numbered”, as Nigerians now reject politicians known for violence, rigging, and corruption.

Journalis Urged To Promote Family Planning In Sokoto

Journalis urged to promote family planning in Sokoto. He said the meeting reviewed challenges and opportunities in reporting on family planning initiatives in Sokoto.

On Friday, the non-governmental organisations Devcom Network and The Challenge Initiative called on media professionals to continue their advocacy and awareness-raising for family planning services.

Bello Kilgori, TCI manager for Sokoto, made the call at a review meeting of the media focal group, a component of the TCI/Devcom project in Sokoto.

He commended local media for their role in promoting family planning services, particularly at the grassroots level.

Mr Kilgori highlighted that the group had achieved success in raising awareness among parents and households across the LGAs where the project was active.

He added that Sokoto was now recognised as a leading state in family planning adoption, with the project contributing to its success.
He said the meeting reviewed challenges and opportunities in reporting on family planning initiatives in Sokoto.

Media practitioner Abdullahi Elkurebe shared guidelines and strategies for effective reporting, addressing challenges and offering solutions for better journalism practices.

Naomi Kogbenda of Vision FM, Sokoto, suggested the organisers introduce a timeline for media programmes to improve delivery.

Isma’il Umar of Voice of Nigeria called for greater commitment to increasing awareness of family planning and contraceptive services.

Musa Ubandawaki, the project’s media coordinator, stated that the meeting was organised to review achievements, discuss challenges, and explore ways to further enhance the project’s impact.

The meeting also stressed the importance of sharing ideas and experiences to improve media coverage throughout the year.

The event was crucial in fostering collaboration to ensure effective media coverage and continued advocacy for family planning services.

Court sets aside judgment recognising Abure as LP National Chairman. The Supreme Court has set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja recognising Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

In a unanimous judgment, a five-member panel of the apex court held that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to have pronounced Abure National Chairman of the Labour Party, after finding out earlier that the substance of the case was about the party’s leadership.

The apex court held that the issue of leadership was an internal affair of a party over which courts lacked jurisdiction.

The court further allowed the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman and one other and held that it was meritorious.

It also proceeded to dismiss the cross-appeal filed by the Abure group of the Labour Party for being unmeritorious.
