The minority leader of the Ogun House of Assembly, Lukman Adeleye, and five other lawmakers have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The lawmakers announced their defection in a letter read by the speaker of the assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, during plenary on Tuesday.

Following the defection, the assembly now comprises 26 APC lawmakers.

According to the letter, the defecting lawmakers cited internal crises within the PDP as the primary reason for their decision.

They said the ongoing crisis within the party had hindered effective political engagement, prompting their decision to align with a more progressive platform to better serve their constituents.

“We remain resolute in our commitment to our legislative duties, as well as to the improved welfare and overall development of our constituents.

“We also use this opportunity to appreciate the leadership and members of the house for their support and cooperation. Kindly accept this letter as our official notification and accord it the necessary recognition in line with established legislative protocols,” the letter stated.

The defecting lawmakers include Dickson Awolaja (Remo North), Samsudeen Lawal (Ogun Waterside), Waliu Owode (Ijebu East), Oluseun Adesanya (Ijebu North-East), and Damilare Bello (Sagamu).

In a related development, the Assembly acknowledged nominees forwarded by Gov. Dapo Abiodun for the State Independent Electoral Commission.

Additionally, four bills (Survey and Geoinformatics, Judicial Institute, Education Trust Fund, and Rural Roads Amendment) scaled first reading during the plenary.

The Police Special Fraud Unit in Lagos has received its 34th police commissioner, Eloho Okpoziakpo, following his redeployment from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The unit’s spokesperson, Ovie Ewhubare, confirmed the development in a recent statement.

Mr Okpoziakpo officially assumed office at the unit’s headquarters in Ikoyi, bringing with him over three decades of policing experience marked by extensive work in fraud investigation, cybercrime, and financial intelligence.

A native of Isoko South LGA of Delta, the new commissioner holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Jos and a Master’s degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.

He was enlisted into the police on June 10, 1994, as a cadet assistant superintendent.

Over the years, Mr Okpoziakpo has served in several strategic roles within the Police Special Fraud Unit, including Team Manager in the Cybercrimes and Internet Fraud, Banking Fraud, Anti-Money Laundering, and General Investigation sections.

He also held key positions such as officer-in-charge of the Police Dedicated Electronic and Card Crime Fraud Unit and Head of the Special Investigation Unit.

Mr Okpoziakpo experience further spans national assignments, where he coordinated investigations involving major institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, among others.

Prior to his latest posting, Mr Okpoziakpo served as commissioner of police (training) at the Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

In his maiden address, the new commissioner emphasised professionalism, accountability, and operational discipline.

He directed that all cases must be properly vetted by the Legal Section before prosecution and documented with timely reports to ensure efficiency.

Mr Okpoziakpo also ordered a review of long-pending cases to prevent delays in justice delivery, warning that arbitrary arrests would not be tolerated.

He stressed that performance would be measured through tangible outcomes, including prosecutions and convictions, in line with the inspector general of police’s zero tolerance for corruption.

In a strong demonstration of the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to human capital development and mission readiness under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Nigerian Air Force School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine (NAFSMSAM) has intensified efforts to build a more skilled and leadership-driven Non-Commissioned Officer cadre. On Tuesday, 24 March 2026, the Commandant, Air Vice Marshal AC Ekpe, inaugurated an advanced upgrading course at Headquarters NAFSMSAM, Kaduna.

The four-week intensive programme is designed to equip Non-Commissioned Officers with the requisite professional competencies required for progression to senior non-commissioned responsibilities, while also sharpening their leadership, supervisory, and service delivery capabilities. In his charge, the Commandant urged participants to remain disciplined, focused, and fully committed, stressing that outstanding performance during the course would remain pivotal to their professional advancement.

In a related high-impact development, NAFSMSAM, in collaboration with German Technical Advisory Group, also conducted the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Course Selection Exercise at the Air Mobile First Aid Unit. The Commandant, represented by the Deputy Commandant, Air Commodore AJ Arumona, noted that the three-day exercise was carefully structured to assess participants’ medical knowledge, physical fitness, resilience, and teamwork, critical competencies for operational emergency response.

This strategic partnership with the German Technical Advisory Group not only reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s growing emphasis on international cooperation and global best practices, but also significantly enhances its emergency medical preparedness architecture. Successful participants will proceed for the NAEMT course in May 2026 and subsequently undergo further development toward certification as instructors, thereby multiplying the Service’s specialist medical response capacity.

Beyond technical and operational training, the School also advanced the Chief of the Air Staff’s people-centric leadership philosophy through initiatives aimed at strengthening unity and personnel welfare.
