INEC sets To moves forward with Kogi Central Senatorial recall process. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receiving a petition for the recall of the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The petition, backed by six bags of documents containing signatures from over half of the district’s 474,554 registered voters, was submitted without complete contact details of the petitioners, delaying the process.

In a press statement, the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun mni, INEC announced that the required contact information has now been provided.

He said a formal notification has been sent to the Senator in question, with copies forwarded to the Senate leadership and published on INEC’s website.

The next step involves verifying the signatures to ensure they meet the legal threshold of over 50% of registered voters in the district.

Ramadan: Charity group feeds 3,000 patients, frees 31 inmates in Katsina. The foundation established in 2020 aims to assist less-privileged individuals during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Katsina Charity Support Foundation has fed about 3,000 patients in hospitals and the visitors’ house (Gidan Baki), and also facilitated the release of 31 inmates in the state.

This is contained in the foundation’s Ramadan report compiled by a 19-member committee to journalists in Katsina on Saturday.

The report was signed by the committee’s Chairman, Lawal Aliyu-Lawal, and the Secretary, Danjuma Katsina.
According to the report, the foundation, established in 2020, aims to assist less-privileged individuals during the holy month of Ramadan.

The committee stated that the foundation mobilised funds ranging from N1,000 to N1 million through contributions by well-meaning individuals, particularly those in the Katsina Times Forum WhatsApp group.

According to the report, the foundation raised a total of N6.149 million in 2025.
It stated, “The foundation operates with three committees. The first is focused on freeing prisoners to allow them to observe the Ramadan fast with their families.

The second is in charge of cooking, packaging, and delivering food to hospitals and Katsina Gidan Baki. The third committee handles purchasing and delivering food items and cash assistance to less privileged individuals on the outskirts of Katsina.”

The report said from its inception in 2020 through to 2025, the foundation had gathered and donated a total of N30 million to support less-privileged persons during the Ramadan period.

It stated, “The foundation also partners with Mobile Media Crew, Katsina Post, Verified News, and Jakadiya Radio and Television.

Its activities are actively supported and promoted by the Katsina Times Media Group, publishers of Katsina Times Online, Katsina City News magazine, and Taskar Labarai.”

Mr Kiyawa said all hands were on deck to monitor activities during the festival and respond swiftly to any incidents that might arise.

He urged residents to celebrate responsibly and embrace the spirit of unity, love, and tolerance that Eid-el-Fitr symbolised.

He further stated that the command, in collaboration with other security agencies in the state, had conducted a comprehensive Show of Force on Friday to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the Sallah celebrations.

Mr Kiyawa noted, “The operation, which took place in various strategic locations across the state, showcased the readiness and commitment of the police, in conjunction with other security agencies, to maintain law and order during the festive period.

“The Show of Force involved the police, military, SSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security outfit.

The police command in Rivers has announced the deployment of personnel to strategic locations to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration across the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, stating that officers would also be stationed at known flashpoints across Rivers.

She explained that law enforcement agents would be deployed to prayer grounds, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, and other public spaces where large gatherings are expected.

“Special attention will also be given to flashpoints, entry and exit points, and major highways, including all waterways, to ensure the safety and security of residents,” she stated.

Ms Iringe-Koko further noted that the Commissioner of Police in Rivers, Olugbenga Adepoju, directed the reinforcement of patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering throughout the Sallah celebrations.

“In addition to maintaining a strong physical security presence, the police command has activated a rapid response strategy, with patrol teams and undercover officers deployed to key locations.
