IGP To Probe Zone 7 Police Officers Over Alleged Corruption – PSC Chairman

IGP to Probe Zone 7 police officers over alleged corruption. The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Hashimu Argungu, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate alleged misconduct by officers of the Zone 7 Police Command.

In a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, Argungu requested that the IGP constitute a special committee to probe the Officer in Charge of the Legal Unit and the Deputy Commissioner of Operations over allegations of abuse of office, extortion, and misconduct.

The petition, filed by Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya, accuses the officers of facilitating the demolition of his residence, where he had lived for over 15 years, despite ongoing legal disputes.

According to the PSC Chairman, on December 19, 2024, police officers and High Court enforcement staff allegedly evicted Yahaya and his family, throwing out their belongings. He further alleged that N700,000 was extorted from him under the guise of preventing further enforcement actions.

On January 16, 2025, another team, reportedly led by an unknown individual, Alhaji Usman Sarki, arrived with trucks and bulldozers, demolishing the petitioner’s home. Yahaya was later arrested and allegedly forced to pay N1 million for bail.
