Technology Should Complement, Not Replace Books In Schools: Remi Tinubu
Technology should complement. She emphasised the importance of physical books in enhancing education standards globally.
The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, says technological advancement cannot replace physical books in schools across the world. Mrs Tinubu said this during a meeting with the U.S. Special Envoy for Best Future Generations, Charles Harder, on the sidelines of the Fostering the Future Together Global Summit hosted by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump in Washington.
In a statement issued on Friday by her senior special assistant on media, Busola Kukoyi, the first lady emphasised the importance of physical books in enhancing education standards globally.
She stressed the need for children to cultivate reading habits, noting that books help to broaden knowledge without the distractions associated with social media and related digital platforms.
She also reaffirmed that education remained a priority of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
“If you want to help people, you must first understand who they really are.
“My husband understands this, just as he did when he was governor of Lagos State. He is working to sanitise the system and lay a formidable foundation that can be built upon.
“Child nutrition will also be on the front burner in a few days through the Office of the First Lady when an aggressive nationwide campaign is launched,” she said.
In his remarks, Mr Harder said the meeting was convened to advance discussions on the needs and welfare of Nigerian children.

Remi Tinubu
He explained that the Best Future Generations initiative, a brainchild of Melania Trump, sought to address issues affecting children globally, including food security, nutrition, health and protection from abuse.
More than 45 first ladies from various countries participated in discussions focusing on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on children and adolescents worldwide.

All Hope Is Not Lost For PDP, We’ll Contest, Win Elections In 2027, Says Turaki
All Hope Is Not Lost For PDP, We’ll Contest, Win Elections In 2027, Says Turaki
All hope is not lost for PDP. Kabiru Turaki, the factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the party will field candidates for all elective seats in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Friday in Abuja during the national executive committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP, Turaki said “all hope is not lost” for the opposition party.
He said the party’s leadership had postponed the NEC meeting by a few weeks to allow for reconciliation with the faction backed by Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to strengthen the PDP and safeguard Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
Turaki said the PDP board of trustees (BoT), led by Adolphus Wabara, recently convened a meeting involving both factions of the party.
He assured members that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the PDP remains “viable and competitive” ahead of the next general election.
“For us in PDP, all hope is not lost. Conceivable efforts are being made to ensure that PDP is on the ballot in all the elections in 2027,” he said.
“It’s also my pleasure to inform you that the leadership is assiduously working around the clock to ensure that PDP remains a veritable platform for all our members wishing to contest elections both in 2027 and beyond.”
In his remarks, Wabara lamented the party’s internal instability, warning that time is running out to resolve the crisis.

PDP
Wabara urged members of the reconciliation committee to fast-track their report and present it to the BoT.
Fred Agbedi, leader of the PDP caucus in the house of representatives, said the remaining PDP lawmakers in the national assembly are committed to the party’s survival.
“Our numbers are waning, our numbers are reducing, but those of us left are holding on,” he said.
Tony Azigbemi, chairman of PDP in Edo, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, reaffirmed the loyalty of state party leaders to the national working committee (NWC) led by Turaki.
