How Court Reserves Judgment In 4 Rivers Political Disputes

How Court reserves iudgment in 4 Rivers political disputes. The Supreme Court on Monday reserved judgment in four legal cases concerning the ongoing political leadership tussle in Rivers State.

A five-member panel led by Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji heard arguments from lawyers representing the involved parties and announced that the judgment date would be communicated later.

The four appeals, identified as SC/CV/1174/2024, SC/CV/1175/2024, SC/CV/1176/2024, and SC/CV/1177/2024, involve disputes between the Rivers State House of Assembly and various state institutions, including the Rivers State Government, the Governor, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), and the Accountant General of the state.

These cases stem from previous Federal High Court rulings in Abuja, one of which ordered a halt to the release of Rivers’ monthly federal allocations until Governor Siminalayi Fubara submitted the state budget to the Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule.

Another ruling barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from providing the voter register to the state for local government elections.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja later overturned these rulings, citing grave injustice and procedural irregularities. Specifically, the appellate court nullified Justice Joyce Abdulmalik’s order on federal allocations and Justice Peter Lifu’s ruling that halted the October 5, 2024, local government elections in Rivers due to procedural issues.

Kaduna Woman drags 3 neighbours to Sharia court for allegedly calling her prostitute. Amiddle-aged woman, Shema’u Isma’il, on Wednesday, dragged three neighbours before a Sharia Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, for allegedly calling her a prostitute.

The complainant accused Halima Umar, Aisha Umar, and Bilkisu Umar for allegedly making defamatory remarks about her, particularly regarding her marital status.

“They said I am living alone despite being a married woman,” she told the court.
She further alleged that the defendants harass her nine-year-old son, scaring him away and beating him whenever he goes outside to play.

She pleaded, “We have tried to settle the matter at home, but they refuse to stop. I want this honourable court to intervene and grant me justice.’’ Ms Halima, mother of Aisha and Bilkisu, who spoke in their defence, denied the allegation.

The judge subsequently referred the case to the police for further investigation and adjourned the hearing until March 26.
