Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji Approves Waterway Dredging To Prevent Flooding

Ekiti governor Biodun Oyebanji approves waterway dredging to prevent flooding. The governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the dredging of more waterways in various communities to prevent flooding as the rainy season begins.

The Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency (EKSEPA) chairman, Bamitale Oguntoyinbo, confirmed this to journalists on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr Oguntoyinbo stated that some affected waterways are in Ado-Ekiti, Otun-Ekiti, Ido-Ekiti, Ise-Ekiti, and Ekiti West Local Government Area.

He emphasised that the initiative is necessary to curb flooding and urged residents to stop blocking waterways with refuse.

“EKSEPA has begun dredging in Otun-Ekiti, Ido-Ekiti, and other parts of the state to prevent flooding in all areas.
“I appeal to residents to refrain from dumping refuse in waterways to avert flooding,” he stated.
Mr Oguntoyinbo commended the governor for taking proactive steps to protect life and property from flooding.

“I thank the governor for his efforts in safeguarding lives and properties. I urge all residents to dispose of their refuse properly at designated sites,” he said.

Eid- el- Fitr: We can overcome corruption by stronger resolve says EFCC. Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ola Olukoyede has expressed optimism that Nigerians are capable of breaking the fang of corrupt practices by mustering stronger resolve and determination against them.

He stated this in Abuja on Sunday, March 30, 2025 in his Goodwill Message to muslims commemorating Eid- el- Fitr across the country.

According to him, tackling economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption are achievable through courageous readiness and corporate commitments of Nigerians.

” Nigerians are stronger than corruption. No corrupt act can break our common resolve and determination. We have all it takes to confront and conquer economic and financial crimes”, he said.

He congratulated muslims and charged them to allow lessons of self- denial, discipline, sacrifice, love and purity of the Ramaddan season imbued in them greater readiness and commitment to shun corrupt practices.

He also assured Nigerians that the anti- corruption war is on course, maintaining that the EFCC is gaining more strength and speed in bringing economic and financial crimes to a halt.

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called on traditional rulers to support government efforts in tackling insecurity and fostering progress in the state.

Mr Mohammed made the call on Monday when the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman and his entourage, paid him an homage at the Government House as part of the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Mr Mohammed, represented by his deputy Auwal Jatau, emphasised the vital role of traditional rulers in maintaining law and order.

He acknowledged the recent security challenges, particularly reports of kidnapping and banditry in Bula District, along the border with Plateau State.

He urged traditional leaders to educate their communities on the need for vigilance and cooperation with security agencies in order to combat criminal activities.

“As we strive to invite investors to Bauchi, we cannot afford to let security challenges discourage them.

“I appeal to our traditional rulers to foster mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and tolerance among their people, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences,” he said.

The governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and social amenities since he assumed office in 2019.
He said that the initiatives have significantly improved the lives of Bauchi residents.
