Easter Message: Nigeria Will Rise Again, CAN Assures Nigerians

Nigeria will rise again. Mr Okoh charged religious bodies to stand firm as pillars of support for the struggling.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and united, asserting that the country possesses the resilience to overcome its current socio-economic and security challenges.

The CAN president, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, made the call in an Easter message issued on Sunday in Abuja.

Mr Okoh said that the resurrection of Jesus Christ serves as a timeless reminder that “rising again is always possible” regardless of past hardships.

According to the statement, the essence of Easter lies in hope returning when it seems lost and the emergence of new beginnings after difficult periods.

“Across the country, people are weary. Families are anxious. Many do not feel safe; others are struggling just to get by. For some, hope has grown faint.

“But Easter tells us this is not the end. We do not have to remain where we are. We can rise, rebuild, and move forward, together,” Mr Okoh said.

The cleric challenged those in leadership positions to match their words with visible actions, noting that the current climate serves as a “test of purpose” for the nation’s helmsmen.

“People must feel leadership, not just hear it. They are looking for action, for empathy, for visible efforts to improve their lives. That is how a nation begins to rise,” he said.

Addressing the role of the Church, Mr Okoh charged religious bodies to stand firm as pillars of support for the struggling and to offer clear direction during uncertain times.

He further urged Nigerians not to succumb to fear or division, calling on them to resist elements intent on destabilising the country through solidarity and shared belief.

“Hard times can divide, but they can also unite. If we choose unity over suspicion and look out for one another, change becomes not just possible, but certain.

“Easter is more than a celebration; it is a decision to rise above our differences, to stand together, and to confront what holds us back,” he said.

He wished Nigerians a happy Easter and prayed for the continued progress of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Obi Question Tinubu’s Empty Promise After Bandits Attacked Jos Again

“How can a president make such a categorical promise and, mere hours later, the nation continues to count the dead across multiple states?” said Mr

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi says President Bola Tinubu’s promise to protect the people of Plateau has failed following the latest deadly attack on the Nyamgo Gyel community in Jos South local council.

In a statement on Monday, the former Anambra governor said, “Less than 24 hours after President Tinubu stood at the Jos Plateau State airport on April 2, 2026, and promised the grieving Nigerian citizens, ‘I promise you that this experience will not repeat itself’, another brutal attack occurred in Nyamgo Gyel, Jos South LGA, resulting in the deaths of several innocent citizens.

“Since then, and only a week following that reassuring promise from the president, Nasarawa state has been plunged into grief as the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities fled for their lives after gunmen killed at least 11 people. Many homes were reduced to ashes, and numerous families remain missing.”

He noted that in Zamfara, 150 people were abducted from the Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji communities, adding that on the same day of the Zamfara kidnappings, terrorists in Borno State stormed Chibok, killing four officers and burning down houses.

“Yesterday, on Easter Sunday, Benue state was rocked by violence again, with over 17 Nigerians massacred, entire communities left in ruins, and many individuals still unaccounted for. Today, in Kaduna state, several innocent citizens were killed by terrorists inside churches, with many others abducted in the Ariko community of Kachia LGA.

“Yet we were told, ‘This experience will not repeat itself’. This represents a failure of leadership and responsibility, and sadly, Nigerians are paying for it with their lives,” Mr Obi said.

According to Mr Obi, the attackers are not ghosts, adding that they were, however, emboldened by the authorities’ inaction.

“How can a president make such a categorical promise and, mere hours later, the nation continues to count the dead across multiple states? The primary responsibility of any government is to protect lives and property; however, this responsibility is failing today.

Tinubu Kept His Promises

“Nigerians are being slaughtered in their homes, in their communities, and in the very places they should feel safest. Even the President did not enter these communities, so who is truly safe in Nigeria? This is a national emergency. Nigeria is bleeding, and the situation is worsening and increasingly helpless,” Mr Obi noted.

Mr Tinubu visited Jos last Thursday, where he confined himself to the Yakubu Gowon Airport during his condolence visit to relatives and victims of a violent attack on the Gari Ya Waye community of Angwan Rukuba, in Jos North. During his speech, the president promised residents that there’d be no repeat of such incident in the state.
