CAS Kelvin Aneke Demands Operational Excellence At High-Level NAF Command Meeting

CAS Kelvin Aneke demands operational excellence at high-level NAF command meeting. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has called on senior commanders of the Nigerian Air Force to pursue operational excellence with unity, discipline, and strategic clarity as the Service advances into a new phase of leadership.

Delivering opening remarks at a meeting with Branch Chiefs, Air Officers Commanding and Unit Commanders on 11 February 2026, the CAS described the engagement as a vital platform for reflection following his first 100 days in office. He noted that recent operational visits across commands revealed the sacrifices and dedication of personnel, stressing that the moment demands renewed focus and collective resolve.

“Together, we will continue to build a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower effects in synergy with surface forces,” he affirmed.

Air Marshal Aneke warned that the global and regional security environment remains volatile, citing instability in the Sahel, the spread of extremist violence, and shifting geopolitical alignments with direct implications for Nigeria’s defence posture. While acknowledging modest improvements in parts of the country, he stressed that insurgency, banditry, and emerging extremist threats require sustained pressure and adaptive strategy.

With elections approaching, he reminded commanders that the Nigerian Air Force must maintain absolute professionalism and political neutrality. Condemning any attempt to undermine democratic order, the CAS reaffirmed the Service’s loyalty to the Constitution. “The Nigerian Air Force remains loyal to the democratically elected government. We will not tolerate indiscipline or unlawful conduct within our ranks,” he declared.

Highlighting the meeting’s agenda, the CAS said discussions would focus on performance review, operational recalibration, and future capability development, including advancements in airpower application and unmanned systems. He urged frank, solution-driven deliberations that translate into measurable improvements across the Service.

Expressing confidence in the Armed Forces’ capacity to safeguard national stability, he reminded commanders that the expectations of millions of Nigerians rest on their effectiveness.

“We are in a season of renewed hope and expectation… and we will not disappoint,” he assured, reaffirming the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to operational excellence and decisive action in defence of the nation.

Ogun Assembly Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, Five Others Defect To APC

The minority leader of the Ogun House of Assembly, Lukman Adeleye, and five other lawmakers have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The minority leader of the Ogun House of Assembly, Lukman Adeleye, and five other lawmakers have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The lawmakers announced their defection in a letter read by the speaker of the assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, during plenary on Tuesday.

Following the defection, the assembly now comprises 26 APC lawmakers.

According to the letter, the defecting lawmakers cited internal crises within the PDP as the primary reason for their decision.

They said the ongoing crisis within the party had hindered effective political engagement, prompting their decision to align with a more progressive platform to better serve their constituents.

“We remain resolute in our commitment to our legislative duties, as well as to the improved welfare and overall development of our constituents.

“We also use this opportunity to appreciate the leadership and members of the house for their support and cooperation. Kindly accept this letter as our official notification and accord it the necessary recognition in line with established legislative protocols,” the letter stated.

NAF Airstrikes Destroy Terrorist Enclave In Lake Chad, Eliminates scores

NAF Airstrikes Destroy Terrorist Enclave In Lake Chad. Mr Ejodame said the airstrike was conducted at about 1205 hours on April 1 by the air component of the Joint Task Force North East.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its air offensive under Operation HADIN KAI, destroying a major terrorist enclave in Kangarwa, located in the Northern Tumbuns area of Borno State.

The Director, Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Mr Ejodame said the airstrike, conducted at about 1205 hours on April 1 by the air component of the Joint Task Force North East, followed credible intelligence and sustained surveillance confirming the presence of terrorists in the area.

He said the targeted enclave had been under close monitoring through untelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, which revealed significant activity and movement within the settlement.

According to him, NAF air assets executed precision strike missions upon confirmation of the targets, delivering multiple attack runs on structures and concealed targets used by the insurgents.

He said the strikes, described as highly effective, led to the destruction of key infrastructure, including logistics hubs and operational shelters within the enclave.

“Scores of fighters were neutralised during the bombardment, significantly degrading the operational capability of the enclave and disrupting insurgent movement in the area.

“The successful air interdiction is expected to create favourable conditions for ground troops to advance, dominate the area and carry out follow-on clearance operations,” he stated.

Mr Ejodame said the operation underscored the growing synergy between air and ground forces in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East.

It added that the enclave, believed to be a stronghold of ISWAP elements, suffered a major setback, with its command and support structures effectively dismantled.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven precision strikes against terrorist hideouts across the theatre.

Mr Aneke said the air force would continue to work in close coordination with surface forces to deny terrorists freedom of action and eliminate all remaining enclaves.

He emphasised that the sustained air campaign remained critical to restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
