Abba Yusuf Directs Political Appointees To Declare Assets with CCB

Gov Abba Yusuf directs political appointees to declare Assets with CCB. Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has instructed all political appointees to declare their assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to comply with legal requirements and avoid potential penalties.

The governor issued this directive during an Iftar (Ramadan Breaking of Fast) with Heads of Government Agencies and Special Advisers at the Kano State Government House.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, Governor Yusuf revealed that the CCB Kano office informed him that 60 to 70 percent of state appointees had yet to register their assets.

“They have requested me to direct you to complete the process to avoid the legal consequences of non-compliance, as stipulated in the Nigerian Constitution,” Yusuf stated.

He urged appointees to obtain, fill out, and promptly submit their asset declaration forms to ensure adherence to the law.

Advisers Urged to Be More Proactive

During the event, the governor also expressed dissatisfaction with some Special Advisers, stating that despite their primary role of providing counsel, many had failed to submit any advisory memos—either written or verbal.

“It is far better for an Adviser to send me dozens of memos than to remain silent for over a year without offering any input on governance matters,” Yusuf noted.

He urged them to be more engaged, actively monitor government activities related to their offices, and provide regular reports—whether positive or negative.

The governor commended the Heads of Government Agencies for their cooperation and, as a token of appreciation, allocated 13 Hajj seats to them.

Appointees Pledge Commitment

Speaking on behalf of the agency heads, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (KCHIMA), Dr. Rahila Mukhtar, thanked the governor for his continued support and pledged their commitment to the administration’s vision.

Similarly, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, reminded the appointees of the oath of office they took, emphasizing that they were duty-bound to serve with fairness and integrity.

He urged them to remain committed to Governor Yusuf’s mission, which focuses on transformation and improving the lives of Kano residents.

Nigerian customs seize $578,000 undeclared cash at Lagos Airport. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, has intercepted $578,000 in undeclared cash from an inbound passenger arriving from South Africa.

Customs Area Controller John Harrison revealed this on Friday, identifying the suspect as Okorie Sunday, who arrived on March 19, 2025, and attempted to smuggle the cash hidden on his body.

Violation of Financial Regulations

Harrison explained that the passenger declared only $279,000 but concealed an additional $299,000, violating Nigeria’s $10,000 cash declaration limit. He also had £100 and a counterfeit $250.

Nigerian Customs dollars

The seized cash was handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.

EFCC’s acting Zonal Director, Ahmed Ghali, warned that failing to declare large sums of cash raises money laundering concerns and urged travelers to comply with financial regulations.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has stressed the importance of technology in tackling corruption and enhancing service delivery in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

ICPC Calls for Stronger Digital Security

Speaking at a nationwide sensitization campaign in Abuja, ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, represented by Demola Bakare, highlighted concerns over recruitment fraud, passport processing irregularities, and border operation misconduct.

Aliyu urged:
Enhanced cybersecurity for recruitment portals.
Strict enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Restructured Performance Management System (PMS).
Fixed administrative costs on passport applications to curb illegal fees.

While the NIS improved from non-compliance in 2023 to partial compliance in 2024 in the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS), Aliyu called for further reforms, including whistleblower protections and stricter penalties for corruption.

NIS Pledges Transparency and Efficiency

NIS Comptroller General, Kemi Nanna Nandap, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to digitization and corruption-free operations.
