Iran Military Launches Missile Strikes At US Military Base In Qatar

Iran military launches missile strikes at US military base in Qatar….US urges citizens to avoid unofficial visits to military bases in Abuja

Iran says it has launched missile strikes on United States forces at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

The “powerful and destructive” missile strikes were retaliation for the US striking of Iran’s nuclear facilities.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, relying on Almighty God and the faithful, proud people of Iran, will never leave any aggression against its territorial integrity, sovereignty, or national security unanswered,” the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement on Monday.

The attacked base is the largest US military installation in the Middle East.

The facility serves as the headquarters and logistics base for US operations in Iraq and also includes the longest air landing strip in the Gulf region.

British forces also rotate through the base.

President Donald Trump had toured the base last month—the first US leader to visit since 2003.

Qatar’s defence ministry said its air defences “successfully” intercepted a missile attack targeting the Al Udeid air base.

The secretariat of Iran’s supreme national security council said the number of missiles Iran used to attack the US air base was the same as the number of bombs the US used to strike Iranian nuclear facilities.

In a statement, the council noted that while Iran “shattered” the US air base in Qatar, the attack in no way “presents any danger to Qatar or its people”.

The statement added that Iran “remains committed to maintaining and continuing its warm and historic relations” with Qatar.

However, Qatar said Iran’s attacks were “a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace”.

Majed Al-Ansari, a spokesperson for the Qatari foreign ministry, said, “the state reserves the right to respond directly, proportionate to the nature and scale of this blatant aggression and in accordance with international law”.

Meanwhile, Kristi Noem, US homeland security secretary, said no new threats from Iran have been recorded since the retaliatory strikes.

Trump was reportedly in a situation room with Pete Hegseth, defence secretary, and other security chiefs, monitoring potential Iranian retaliation.

Meanwhile , the United States mission in Nigeria has issued a security advisory warning US citizens against non-official travel to Nigerian military and government facilities in Abuja.

This directive comes amid increased security concerns linked to recent global developments, prompting heightened caution for American nationals residing or traveling in Nigeria.

According to the advisory released on Sunday, all US embassy employees and their families are currently prohibited from visiting Nigerian military sites or other government venues in the capital city unless on official business.

The mission emphasised the need for vigilance in public spaces, particularly in locations frequented by westerners, expatriates, and government officials.

“Stay alert in public places and be mindful of surroundings. Avoid large gatherings and limit unnecessary travel,” the statement reads.

“Vary daily routines to reduce predictability. Familiarise oneself with emergency exits in buildings.

“Review and update personal security plans. Despite these restrictions, the Consular Sections of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos remain operational to provide assistance.”

The US government also asked citizens to monitor its official website for ongoing updates and enroll in the smart traveler enrollment program (STEP) to receive timely security notifications.

Lagos Assembly Strongly Seeks Suspension Of Makoko Demolition

Lagos assembly strongly seeks suspension of Makoko demolition. The Lagos state house of assembly has called for the suspension of demolition activities in Makoko, Oko-Agbon and Shogunro waterfront communities following protests by displaced residents and growing public concern over the exercise.

The call was announced on Tuesday by Noheem Adams, chairman of an ad hoc committee set up by Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the house, during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Lateef Jakande auditorium.

Adams called on all state ministries to cease demolition work and promised compensation to the affected residents.
“On behalf of the speaker and all 40 members of the house, we are directing that all demolitions in Makoko, Oko-Agbon, and Shogunro communities should stop from today until further notice,” New Telegraph quoted Adams as saying.

He called for transparency by demanding the full list of taskforce members and the criteria used for engagement, insisting that residents must be actively involved in the process.

“That the taskforce that was constituted, we want to see the list of the taskforce because we want the residents to be duly involved and to be carried along. So we want to have the schedule of those task forces and the criteria for those that we are inviting,” Adams added.

“To the residents of Makoko, Oko-Agbon and Shogunro communities, as your representatives, we are giving you all assurances that they will stop demolitions henceforth and there will be compensations for all those whose properties have been demolished.”

Stephen Ogundipe, member of the ad-hoc, said there is need for clear communication, adding that residents targeted for relocation or redevelopment must be informed of the government’s plans in advance.

Babatunde Olajide, special adviser to governor of Lagos on E-GIS and urban renewal, confirmed that $2 million had been earmarked since 2021 to transform Makoko into a modern, internationally compliant water city.

He said enumeration of affected properties is underway and reiterated the administration’s commitment to handling the situation with a human face, prioritizing resident safety and fair compensation.

Yusuf Sagra, baale of Makoko, described the assembly’s decision as a “word of peace,” while Orioye Ogungbure, another leader of the community, praised the “democratic responsiveness” of the government.
