Kaduna Woman Drags 3 Neighbours To Sharia Court For Allegedly Calling Her Prostitute
Kaduna Woman drags 3 neighbours to Sharia court for allegedly calling her prostitute. Amiddle-aged woman, Shema’u Isma’il, on Wednesday, dragged three neighbours before a Sharia Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, for allegedly calling her a prostitute.
The complainant accused Halima Umar, Aisha Umar, and Bilkisu Umar for allegedly making defamatory remarks about her, particularly regarding her marital status.
“They said I am living alone despite being a married woman,” she told the court.
She further alleged that the defendants harass her nine-year-old son, scaring him away and beating him whenever he goes outside to play.
She pleaded, “We have tried to settle the matter at home, but they refuse to stop. I want this honourable court to intervene and grant me justice.’’ Ms Halima, mother of Aisha and Bilkisu, who spoke in their defence, denied the allegation.

She claimed that the complainant was the first to insult her children, calling them prostitutes, and they only retaliated. She also told the court that both the complainant’s son and her own children were underage.
The Judge, Kabir Muhammad asked the defendants whether they had witnesses, to which they responded in the affirmative.
The judge subsequently referred the case to the police for further investigation and adjourned the hearing until March 26.

China Reaffirmed Stronger Ties With Canada Based On Mutual Respect
China reaffirmed stronger ties with Canada based on mutual respect. China has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Canada on the principles of mutual respect and equality.
The statement came from China’s foreign ministry following Mark Carney’s victory in the leadership race for Canada’s ruling party, positioning him as the country’s next prime minister.
Carney, a former central banker with no prior elected experience, won the leadership contest with 86% of the votes on Sunday, succeeding Justin Trudeau, who stepped down in January.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning congratulated Carney on his victory and called on Canada to collaborate with China in fostering better relations.
“We hope Canada will maintain an objective and rational approach toward China and adopt a positive and pragmatic policy to improve our bilateral ties,” Mao stated. Carney’s victory comes amid trade tensions between the two nations.

China Reaffirmed Stronger Ties With
Just a day before the election, Beijing imposed tariffs on over $2.6 billion worth of Canadian agricultural and food products, responding to Canada’s import duties introduced in October.
The new tariffs, set to take effect on March 20, mirror Canada’s 100% and 25% levies on China-made electric vehicles, steel, and aluminum products.
Mao defended China’s countermeasures as legitimate and justified, urging Canada to reverse its trade restrictions to foster a fair and predictable business environment for companies in both countries.

Senate Rejects S£ xual Harassment Petition Against Akpabio

Senate Rejects S£ xual Harassment Petition Against Akpabio
Senate Rejects S£ xual Harassment Petition Against Akpabio. During a tense plenary session on Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate rejected a s£ xual harassment petition filed against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan submitted the petition, which sparked heated debates regarding adherence to Senate rules and procedures.
Arguments focused on whether the petition was admissible, as Senator Munguno cited the sub judice rule prohibiting discussions on matters currently before a court. Munguno also pointed out that Akpoti’s signing of her own petition violated Senate rules.
Akpoti defended her actions, stating that the petition’s contents differed from the court case involving malicious comments about her dressing. Attempts to send the petition to the Ethics Committee for review were unsuccessful, as some senators argued that the matter was already before the courts and should not be entertained.

Natasha Harassment Petition
As emotions ran high, the Senate Leader called for the upholding of Senate rules and procedures, stressing that Akpabio’s acceptance of the petition was driven by emotion. The Senate President acknowledged his desire to avoid the appearance of victimizing Akpoti.
Ultimately, the Senate rejected the petition, citing violations of its rules and the potential sub judice implications.
