Bauchi State Sets For National Sports Festival In Ogun: Deputy Governor

Bauchi State sets for National Sports Festival in Ogun. The festival is scheduled for Abeokuta, Ogun State from May 16 to 30, 2025.

The Bauchi State Government on Saturday, said the state it is ready for the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled for Abeokuta, Ogun State from May 16 to 30, 2025.

The state Deputy Governor,  Auwal Jatau, stated this when officials of the State Sports Council and National Sports Commission paid him a courtesy visit on Saturday in Bauchi.

Mr Jatau said that Governor Bala Mohammed had approved the state’s participation and ensured that all necessary arrangements were in place for a successful outing.

He said, “We are optimistic of the state’s chances of winning medals , owing to its rich history in sporting excellence. Bauchi has been part of the National Sports Festival since 1976, and has comparative strength in athletics, football, hockey, boxing, basketball among other sports.

The state has consistently won medals in previous editions of the festival as we remain committed to sports and youth development.:
He also commended the NSC and the festival’s organising committee for promoting unity and peace through sports.

Team Leader of the festival’s Torch of Unity, Mbora Ikana, informed the deputy governor of the event’s dates and schedules.

“We commend the governor for his continued support for sports as the commission will assist in promoting the sector in the state,” she said.

Osimhen Undergoes Successful Surgery Following Injury Against Liverpoo

Victor Osimhen fractured his hand during a challenge with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

Turkish side Galatasaray, on Monday, announced that Super Eagles forward Victor Olorunfemi has undergone surgery following the hand injury he suffered in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match against Liverpool last week.

Osimhen only managed to play the first half of the game at Anfield before he was subbed off after fracturing his hand during a challenge with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

In a statement on Monday, Galatasaray confirmed that the club’s doctor, Yener İnce, successfully operated on the 27-year-old to repair his hand at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital.

“In the away match we played against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, our player Victor Osimhen, who was injured and unable to continue the game, underwent a successful operation today at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital performed by our club doctor Op. Dr. Yener İnce,” the Galatasaray said.

The club added that it “extend our wishes for a speedy recovery to our footballer and hope for his return to the field at the earliest.”

Galatasaray would hope that Osimhen recovers in time to help the reigning Turkish champions in their fight with Fenerbahce to retain the league title.

MultiChoice Sets To Discontinue Showmax Streaming Service

MultiChoice sets to discontinue Showmax streaming service. MultiChoice Group says it plans to discontinue Showmax, it’s streaming platform, as part of a broader review of its digital strategy.

The development comes five months after Canal+ Group, a French TV channel, tookover MultiChoice, the South African pay-TV operator.

In a message to customers dated March 5, the company said the decision to stop operations was taken after a “comprehensive review” by the board, noting that the move is aimed at strengthening its overall digital offering.

“Following a comprehensive review, the Showmax Board has taken the decision to discontinue the Showmax service in the near future,” the company said.

MultiChoice added that the decision reflects its focus on ensuring “long-term sustainability in an increasingly competitive streaming environment”.

The company, however, said the streaming platform will continue to operate for now and that subscribers will experience no immediate disruption.

“Importantly, at the moment there will be no interruption to your current service. You can continue streaming as usual, and no action is required from you at this time,” the notice reads.

MultiChoice said further details on the shutdown timeline and transition plans will be communicated to subscribers ahead of any changes.

“We understand that this news may raise questions. Showmax subscribers are a priority for us, and we are working on plans to ensure clear communication and a smooth transition when the time comes,” the company said.

“We will share further details well in advance, including timelines and any future steps, should they be required.”

The company also reiterated that streaming remains a central part of its strategy, adding that it will continue investing in content, technology, and partnerships.

“Streaming remains central to our strategy. We will continue to invest in premium content, technology innovation and partnerships to deliver the best possible entertainment experience to our customers,” MultiChoice said.
