Heathrow Had Sufficient Power To Remain Open Says UK Grid Chief
Heathrow had sufficient power to remain open says UK Grid Chief. The head of the UK’s National Grid, John Pettigrew, has stated that Heathrow Airport had “enough power” to remain operational despite the electrical substation fire that forced its closure on March 21, 2025.
The shutdown, which lasted almost a day, disrupted thousands of passengers and flights worldwide, sparking concerns over the reliability of the UK’s busiest airport.
Pettigrew told the Financial Times that power was still available through two other substations, emphasizing that each substation alone could supply Heathrow’s power needs.
“Losing a substation is a rare event, but there were two others available,” he explained.
However, airport officials attributed the closure to the time required to safely transition power to the other substations and reboot critical systems.
“Hundreds of essential airport systems had to be safely shut down and restarted, making the process highly complex,” a Heathrow spokesperson said.
Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye added that a backup transformer failure forced them to restructure power supplies before resuming operations.

Heathrow Had Sufficient Power
The UK government has launched a six-week investigation into the incident, which disrupted 1,350 flights and forced 120 Heathrow-bound planes to divert.
Meanwhile, fire officials have classified the Thursday night blaze as non-suspicious, focusing their probe on electrical distribution equipment.

President Tinubu Urges Love, Charity To Vulnerable

President Tinubu Urges Love, Charity To Vulnerable
President Tinubu urges love, charity to vulnerable. Mr Tinubu urged Muslims not to return to the old and unacceptable paths but to remain steadfast in practicing the righteous virtues.
President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of Eid-el-Fitr by demonstrating greater love and compassion, particularly toward the vulnerable, and extending acts of charity to all.
The president said this in an interview with journalists after the Eid-el-Fitr prayers marking the end of Ramadan at the Abuja National Eid Prayer Ground on Sunday.
The president urged Muslims not to return to the old and unacceptable paths but to remain steadfast in practicing the righteous virtues they had learned during Ramadan.
“We should continue the good deeds as taught during the Holy month of Ramadan: care for the vulnerable, the orphans and less privileged.
“Everything that we have observed, we should not revert to the path that is not acceptable to the teachings of this month,” the president said.
In his sermon, Abdulkadir Sholagberu, the chief imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, who led the prayers, reiterated the need for Muslims to continue in the spirit of Ramadan, which includes exhibiting a life of love, cooperation in righteousness, and care for the poor and vulnerable.
He stressed that it is imperative to continue in the life of worship, holiness, and obedience to Allah even after Ramadan.

“We must continue to cooperate in righteousness. During the fast, we showed love to one another; we cared for people in need, we extended charity, and our country was peaceful. Why should we return to rancour after Ramadan,” the imam further stated.
He urged the Muslim faithful to live in peace, harmony, and love of the country, devoid of discrimination.
Today is Mr Tinubu’s first Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Abuja since 2023.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, members of the Federal Executive Council, and other senior government officials were also in attendance.

Eid-el-Fitr: Wike Seeks Continued Prayer For Tinubu, Good Governance

Eid-el-Fitr: Wike Seeks Continued Prayer For Tinubu, Good Governance
Eid-el-Fitr: Wike seeks continued prayer for Tinubu, good governance. The minister described FCT as the “centre of unity” and urged residents to always uphold and exhibit that unity.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on Nigerians to continue praying for President Bola Tinubu for impactful leadership and good governance.
Mr Wike made the call in his Sallah message on Sunday for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, which signals the end of Ramadan.
He described the task of building Nigeria and its capital territory as a collective dream — one of peace, prosperity, and unity.
The minister added that the country needed citizen’s support, faith, and, most importantly, continued prayers for divine wisdom and guidance in building Nigeria “and a federal capital that we will all be proud of.”
“I commend residents of the FCT for their acts of charity, kindness, and generosity toward one another throughout the holy month.
“Your commitment to supporting the less privileged, fostering community bonds, and spreading love and peace is truly admirable.
“As we celebrate Eid, I urge all residents to continue to embody these noble virtues even beyond Ramadan, as they are essential to building a harmonious and prosperous society,” he said.
The minister described FCT as the “centre of unity” and urged residents to uphold and exhibit that unity at all times.
“Let us live in peace, harmony, and respecting one another, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, including working together for the common good of all,” he said.
Mr Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration remained steadfast in its commitment to the infrastructural development of the territory and the welfare and security of all residents.

Wike Seeks Continued Prayer For Tinubu
He added that the administration would continue to prioritise policies and initiatives that enhanced the quality of life in the FCT and ensure a safe and conducive environment for all.
“As residents of the nation’s capital, we must all take responsibility for ensuring peace and stability in our communities.
“I call on you to resist any attempt by individuals or groups seeking to create disharmony within our ranks or disrupt the peace we cherish.
“Let us remain united and not allow anyone to sow seeds of division or instigate public disturbance.
“Security is a collective duty, and I encourage everyone to promptly report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities,” Mr Wike said.
