FAAN Closes Ibadan Airport For Ongoing Upgrade Works

FAAN closes Ibadan airport for ongoing upgrade works. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has announced the temporary closure of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, Oyo State. In a statement on Sunday, FAAN Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah the Federal Government had approved the closure.

She said the closure was to facilitate extensive upgrade works to enhance infrastructure and operational standards. According to her, the move became necessary to enable the execution of critical improvements at the airport.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the temporary closure of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (SLAA), Ibadan, due to ongoing upgrade works,” the statement read.

“As part of the Oyo State Government’s initiative to upgrade Ibadan Airport from a domestic to an international airport, various improvements and remodelling works are currently underway.”

According to the statement, the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency has consequently closed the runway and suspended airport operations by the International Civil Aviation Organisation regulations.

Eld-el-Fitr: Goverment declares Monday, Tuesday as public holidays. The minister further expressed hope that Eid-el-Fitr would bring people together.

The federal government has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, as public holidays in commemoration of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.

The minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the federal government.

The declaration was contained in a communiqué signed by the permanent secretary of the ministry of interior, Magdalene Ajani, on Wednesday.

Mr Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims on successfully completing Ramadan’s fasting period, encouraging them to continue embracing the values and virtues fostered during this holy month.

He urged them to “embrace the virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace, emphasising the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in building a harmonious society.”

The minister further expressed hope that Eid-el-Fitr would bring people together, inspiring unity and cooperation across different religions and ethnic groups.

“As we celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, let us reflect on the lessons of Ramadan, embrace one another with love and forgiveness, and work together to build a more united and prosperous Nigeria,” Mr Tunji-Ojo said.

The statement continued, “Mr Tunji-Ojo also encouraged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity, in keeping with the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid.”

“On behalf of the federal government, he extended heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful and prayed that the blessings of the season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to everyone.”

Reps approves bill to expand Lagos LGAs to 57. The House of Representatives has approved a bill seeking to upgrade Lagos State’s 37 Development Area Councils into full-fledged Local Government Areas (LGAs), increasing the state’s total number of LGAs from 20 to 57.

The bill, one of 42 constitutional amendment bills passed on Wednesday, was sponsored by Hon. James Abiodun Faleke (Ikeja Federal Constituency), Hon. Babajimi Benson (Ikorodu Federal Constituency), and Hon. Enitan Dolapo Badru (Lagos Island I Federal Constituency), alongside 19 other lawmakers.

Reps Approves Bill To Expand Lagos

Titled “A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) to Accommodate the Thirty-Seven (37) Development Area Councils of Lagos State as Full-Fledged Local Government Areas, Increasing the Total Number of Local Government Areas in the Federation to Eight Hundred and Eleven (811), and for Related Matters (HB. 1498),” the proposed legislation scaled its second reading during Wednesday’s plenary session, presided over by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

If enacted, the bill will increase the total number of LGAs in Nigeria from 774 to 811, making Lagos the state with the highest number of LGAs, surpassing Kano (44) and Katsina (34).
