Fifty Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area have completed training on acquisition of entrepreneurial skills.
The programme organised on the theme “Ability in Disability; Entrepreneurship without limits” by Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, today, 21st March, 2025 took place at the Ikot Ekpene Town Hall.
The Chairman, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom said, the training was intended to help in scaling up people with disabilities in their respective businesses to the next level, through provision of start-up business equipment.
Hon. Nkom reiterated that the training was designed to equip them with the educational skills, financial management skill and knowledge necessary to overcome challenges and thrive in the business world.
Disclosing that the training will be undertaken in batches, The LG Chairman said, the start-up business equipment would be delivered at their respective business stations on visitation to ascertain their immediate need, adding that growth and monitoring process will be applied by the Council.
The Local Government Area helmsman said the programme is organised to encourage them to achieve greater financial independence.
He urged the participants to utilise the opportunity effectively by taking notes, be prudent in management, integrate principles that would ensure the sustenance of their businesses, disciplined, dedicated, and preserve a positive mind-set.
He urged them to make judicious use of the start-up equipment provided for them and serve as ambassadors for others to emulate.
Earlier, the Chairman of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Comrade Ime Enang expressed appreciation to the Local Government Chairman for promoting inclusivity in his administration through training and empowerment of PWDs.
He promised to use the opportunity to better their economy and business careers, saying the training will boost their intellectual quotient and proffer knowledge in various fields and vocations.
He pledged all to remain steadfast while working for continuous business growth in the interest to advancement of the local government.

Expressing his gratitude, one of the beneficiaries, Elder Reuben John Akpan from Abak Ifia village thanked the Local Government Chairman, for providing the automated Cassava Pressing Machine, saying it would improve his business.
He also applauded him for catering for and incorporating PWDs in his social welfare provision and prayed for God’s blessing and wisdom on him and his administration.
Lecture and talk on entrepreneurial skill, financial/business management were delivered by resource persons from First City Monument Bank, Akwa Ibom State Trade and Investment and member of PWD, among others.

Umo Eno upgrades general hospital with new hemodialysis unit, refurbished accident, emergency, pediatric wards. Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has re-echoed his administration’s commitment to delivering effective and efficient healthcare under the ARISE Agenda as he commissions, Monday, March 24, a new Hemodialysis Unit alongside refurbished Accident, Emergency, and Pediatric wards at General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the State .
Represented by Dr. Patrick Umoh, Member for Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency, Governor Eno expressed heartfelt appreciation for the community’s support.
He assured that his administration would continue delivering democratic dividends and fulfill its campaign promises by further enhancing healthcare services in the region.
Hon. Umoh, Chairman of the House Committee on Health Institutions, commended the Governor for his developmental efforts in healthcare and other sectors.
He pledged support for the enrollment of 100 women in the State Healthcare Insurance Scheme and announced the donation of three ambulances to the State government for emergency health response.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, explained that the rising cases of renal failure necessitated the Governor’s investment in the dialysis facility.
He further revealed plans to establish hemodialysis units across all 10 federal constituencies, showcasing a systematic approach to healthcare delivery.

Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Nene Andem described Governor Eno as a beacon of hope, noting that the new facility will benefit not only Ikot Ekpene but also neighboring communities. Local leaders,including Ikot Ekpene Local Government Chairman Hon. Aniefiok Nkom and Environment Commissioner Hon. Nsikak Ekong, lauded the Governor’s passion for healthcare and commitment to affordable services.
In a goodwill message, APC State Chairman Obong Stephen Ntukekpo commended Governor Eno for his quality projects, hailing him as the most performing governor in Nigeria.
Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, in his vote of thanks, conveyed the community’s gratitude and pledged continuous support toward securing a second term for the Governor.

Eseme Eyiboh, has challenged Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to provide evidence supporting her claims against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, in a report published by Premium Times on Sunday, alleged that Akpabio orchestrated her removal from the United Nations premises in New York after she reported her sexual harassment claims to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Umo Eno Reaffirms Commitment To sound Education In Akwa Ibom, Another Model School Commission
Umo Eno reaffirms commitment to sound education in Akwa Ibom, another model school commission… Commissions Holy Child Convent Model Primary School.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has pledged to ensure that every Akwa Ibom child gets the necessary basic foundation in education as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda blueprint.
The Governor made the pledge at the commissioning of the Holy Child Convent Model Primary School in Abak.
Speaking through his Deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the Governor reassured his administration’s commitment to educational advancement in the State.
Eyakenyi while noting that various people from Abak Federal constituency have benefited from the Governor’s empowerment programmes in different fields, said the school currently wears a new look and is conducive for learning.
“As a government, we understand the power of education and in securing a place for the future for our children.
Only the future will reveal the main essence of what we are doing today our public schools should accommodate both the rich, poor and also compete with other private schools out there,” she said.
She said the children will be provided with free school uniforms, books and other incentives needed for effective learning, and called on the people of Abak to protect the facility and ensure optimal utilisation.

Eno Reaffirms Commitment To sound Education
Eyakenyi said the local government council boss has been instructed to employ security for both day and night to ensure that the school environment is conducive and the things procured are safe.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Mrs. Ime Charles thanked the Governor for his numerous projects in Abak, and most especially for the quality of the structure.
She described the Model Primary School project as a testament of the government’s commitment to infrastructural development in the State.
Giving an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Umoh, stated that the model school has an ICT Lab.
