Rivers SSG Warns Against Taking Governor Fubara’s Simplicity For Weakness

Rivers SSG warns against taking Governor Fubara’s simplicity for weakness. The Secretary to the Government of Rivers State (SSG), Dr Tammy Danagogo, has cautioned that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s calm and peaceful approach to governance should not be mistaken for weakness. He warned amid criticism from opponents of the Governor, especially the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Opponents had criticised Danagogo’s role in Fubara’s administration, particularly his decision to sign the letter inviting lawmakers for a meeting with the Governor.

Wike had described Danagogo’s letter as “useless”.

Speaking with journalists during the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, Dr Danagogo argued that there was nothing wrong with the SSG writing a letter for an informal meeting.

He clarified that such communication was within his official responsibilities and not an overreach of his position. Danagogo, a lawyer from the Kalabari region, who also served as SSG during Wike’s second tenure as Governor, noted that he carried out similar duties under the former administration.

He emphasised that his response was not driven by political sentiment but by the need to set the record straight and counter misrepresentations.

Danagogo commended the Governor for his restraint in the face of provocation, particularly the recent incident where the state assembly complex was locked, preventing him from presenting the budget. He remarked that some past governors in similar situations might have resorted to drastic measures, but Fubara chose to maintain order.

He further assured Rivers people that the state government remains committed to their welfare and economic stability.

According to him, Governor Fubara’s reluctance to escalate tensions is rooted in his desire to avoid policies that could impoverish citizens.

Sanusi Stays As Emir, Kano Government Reacts To Court Ruling

Sanusi stays as Emir, Kano Government reacts to court ruling. Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, has clarified that the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, does not invalidate the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.

He made the clarification while speaking to journalists on Friday, Dederi said that the Court of Appeal had already affirmed the Kano State Government’s authority to reinstate Sanusi in a landmark ruling on January 10, 2025.

He stated that it is impossible for the same court to overturn its own decision, adding that only the Supreme Court has the power to do so.

His statement came in response to Friday’s ruling by the Court of Appeal on an application for a stay of execution filed by Alhaji Aminu Baba Dan Agundi, a kingmaker loyal to the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero. The appeal seeks to suspend the implementation of the ruling until the Supreme Court delivers its judgment.

Dederi explained that the Court of Appeal’s ruling simply maintains the current status quo until the Supreme Court decides on the matter. He stressed that the January 10 judgment remains valid and has not been quashed.

“The Appeal Court today, after hearing their application for a stay of execution, ruled that the status quo should rather be maintained as it is now, until after the judgment of the Supreme Court. The have filed an appeal at the Supreme Court.

“It doesn’t mean that the judgment delivered on January 10, 2025, has been quashed. That judgment is still standing and still in place and subsisting.

The Court of Appeal cannot reverse its own decision. It is not possible. It is only a supreme Court that has the power to set aside the judgment given by a lower court,” Dederi stated.

Sanusi II was originally dethroned as Emir of Kano on March 9, 2020, by the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. His removal was attributed to alleged insubordination and conflicts with the state government.

Following his dethronement, he was banished to Nasarawa State. However, in May 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf repealed the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2019, which had split the Kano Emirate into five smaller emirates. This paved the way for Sanusi’s reinstatement as the sole Emir of Kano, reversing the previous administration’s decision.

It will be recalled that on January 10, 2025, a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, led by Justice Mohammad Mustapha, nullified an earlier ruling by the Federal High Court in Kano, which had invalidated the Kano State Government’s actions under the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024. This ruling upheld Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s reappointment as Emir.

However, Dan Agundi challenged the verdict at the Supreme Court and also sought a stay of execution to delay its enforcement until the apex court delivers its final ruling.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has restated its commitment to fostering national unity, promoting civic responsibility, and enlightening Nigerians on critical socio-economic issues.

The director-General of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, stated this on Saturday during his remark at the 8th Annual Ramadan Lecture Series, organised by Ashraaf Islamic Foundation in Abuja.

The theme of the lecture was titled “Ramadan Lesson on Food Security: Building Nigeria’s Path to Sustainable Economic Growth and Development.”

Mr Issa-Onilu, who was represented by Audu Mayo, the deputy director, planning research and statistics, NOA, described food security as a matter of great importance to the nation and humanity at large.

“The NOA is committed to fostering national unity, promoting civic responsibility, and enlightening Nigerians on critical socio-economic issues including food security.

“Food security is not just an economic or agricultural concern; it is a fundamental aspect of national development and social stability.

“A well-nourished society is a productive one, and ensuring access to affordable, nutritious food is essential for national growth and peace,’’ NOA DG said.
According to him, Ramadan teaches us the values of compassion, sacrifice, and community support.

“As we fast, we are reminded of the plight of those who go hungry daily, not by choice, but due to food scarcity, poverty, and economic challenges.”

The NOA boss also called for collective action from government, religious institutions, private organisations and individuals to promote sustainable agricultural practices, reduce food waste, and support policies that guarantee food sufficiency for all Nigerians.

According to him, the NOA stands firm in its mandate to educate and mobilise Nigerians towards behavioral change and national development.

He encouraged every citizen to embrace practices that enhance food security, from supporting local farmers to adopting responsible consumption habits.

“Additionally, we urge religious and community leaders to continue advocating for policies that uplift the vulnerable and ensure that no Nigerian goes to bed hungry.
