NPF Uncovers Child-Stealing, Trafficking Syndicate, Rescue 17 Children
The Nigeria Police Force, through the Oyo State Command, has uncovered a child-stealing and human trafficking network operating across state lines, rescuing 17 children and arresting seven suspects following an intelligence-led investigation.

The investigation commenced following credible intelligence concerning the disappearance of a three-year-old child, Ifakunle Ifagbenro, who went missing during a masquerade festival in Oyo Town on 29 June 2026. Following extensive investigative efforts, detectives identified and arrested Adejoke Popoola, also known as Orente Alagbo, on 4 August 2026.
Upon her arrest, Popoola disclosed her involvement in the alleged stealing, movement and sale of children from churches, parties and other event venues within and outside Oyo State. Her disclosures also led detectives to Adekanbi Janet, also known as Hosanna, who was subsequently arrested in Mowe, Ogun State. Four children and two pregnant young women were rescued from her custody.
Further information obtained during the investigation provided leads to the whereabouts of Ifakunle, resulting in his rescue in the Gbagi area of Ibadan on 20 August 2026. The investigation subsequently revealed that the criminal network extended beyond Oyo and Ogun States.
Acting on the emerging leads, Police detectives on 2 September 2026 extended the operation to Agbor, Delta State, where four children allegedly stolen from Oyo State were rescued from persons suspected to have illegally acquired them. Christopher Joy and Rosemary Jesse were arrested in connection with the operation, further confirming the interstate nature of the criminal network.
The investigation also uncovered allegations that deceased victims were transferred to persons involved in ritual activities. This led to the arrest of Muritala Fasasi and Yakubu Azeez, who are being investigated in connection with the alleged use of victims for ritual purposes. The Command has also received information concerning six children who allegedly died while in the custody of members of the network, with efforts ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported deaths.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, commended the Oyo State Command for the breakthrough and directed that efforts be sustained to dismantle the entire network, locate additional missing children and ensure that all persons found culpable are brought to justice.

NNPC Ltd Commends NDLEA on Intercepted Truck, Clarifies Truck is Not NNPC Vehicle
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) commends the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its vigilance and professionalism in intercepting a truck reportedly found with 2,145kg of cannabis concealed in a compartment in Ondo State.

NNPC Ltd. has taken note of media reports concerning the intercepted vehicle, which bears markings associated with the Company. We wish to clarify that preliminary checks indicate that the vehicle, with registration number MKA 960 XC, is neither owned by NNPC Ltd. nor part of the official fleet of the Company or any of its authorised dealers.
The logo displayed on the vehicle is not consistent with NNPC Ltd.’s current official branding, and the vehicle does not appear in the Company’s asset database. NNPC Ltd. is also engaging with the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to obtain further information and establish the circumstances surrounding the use of the Company’s old branding on the vehicle.
NNPC Ltd. takes any unauthorised use of its corporate identity seriously, particularly where such use may be associated with unlawful activity. The Company remains committed to protecting the integrity of its brand and ensuring that its name, trademarks and other corporate identifiers are not misused.
NNPC Ltd. will continue to cooperate fully with the NDLEA and other relevant security agencies and supports a full and thorough investigation to establish all the facts surrounding the incident, including the ownership and operation of the vehicle and the circumstances in which NNPC Ltd. markings came to be displayed on it.
The Company is also reviewing its brand-protection and asset-monitoring protocols and will take appropriate steps, including legal action where warranted, against any unauthorised use of its corporate identity.
NNPC Ltd. encourages members of the public and relevant authorities to verify the ownership or affiliation of vehicles purporting to belong to the Company through appropriate official channels.

EFCC Arraigns Bilal Muhammad for Alleged N600,000 Fraud in Maiduguri
The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, September 7, 2026, arraigned one Bilal Muhammad before Justice B.T Zanna of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri.

The defendant was arraigned on a two -count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N600,000.00 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira).
Count one of the charge reads: “That you, Bilal Muhammad CEO of GDF Homes Sale Enterprises Limited, sometimes in 2025 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did obtain the sum of N600,000.00 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira) under the guise of selling Keke Napep and thereby committed an offence contrary to 1 (1)(a) & (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under 1 (3) of the same Act.”
The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charge when they were read to him, while prosecution counsel A.D Abdulmalik prayed for a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in EFCC facility
Justice Zanna thereafter adjourned the matter till September 22, 2026 for commencement of hearing and remand the defendant in the EFCC facility.

The defendant was arrested when he allegedly obtained the aggregate sum of N600,000.00 from a petitioner purportedly meant for the purchase of a Tricycle (aka Keke Napep) and failed to deliver neither the Tricycle nor the money to the petitioner.

Navy Tightens Pressure on Illegal Refining of Crude Oil, Recovers 33,000 Litres in Rivers
The Nigerian Navy has intensified pressure on illegal refining networks in Rivers State, disrupting 2 illegal refining sites and recovering approximately 33,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.

The operation by NNS PATHFINDER on 6 September 2026 uncovered 8 dugout pits, sacks and reservoirs associated with the illegal refining activities. The sites and recovered products were subsequently handled in line with established procedures.
The latest action is significant against the backdrop of repeated attempts to revive illegal refining in the area. Following earlier interventions, including the disruption of 2 illegal refining sites on 28 August 2026, continued naval pressure is constraining the ability of operators to re-establish and sustain illicit refining activities.
